A fast aperture of f/2.8 and a wide 24mmm perspective combines well for the AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D which is no doubt a value for money deal when it comes to FX format wide angle fast lenses. Wide angle lenses such as these are ideally suitable for the purpose of shooting landscapes, weddings, group shots and architecture. The fast aperture makes it all the more suitable to tackle tough lighting conditions. The lens has a wide 84° maximum viewing angle on a FX format camera and a 61° viewing angle on DX format DSLRs. It is compatible with both FX format and DX format Nikon DSLRs.
Nikon has provided two important innovations in Close Range Correction (CRC) system and Super Integrated Coating (SIC) which ensures that the les has fantastic sharpness at both close and long focusing distances while reducing flares and ghosts when shooting wide open.
The lens has a total of 9 elements arranged in 9 groups. The diaphragm of the lens is arranged using 7 rounded blades which gives beautiful background blurring when shot using wide open apertures. The AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D can focus at a minimum distance of 1’ or 0.3 m. Thanks to the CRC system the images never lose their sharpness even at that extremely close distance.
The AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D has a filter thread specification of 52mm. the dimensions of the lens are 2.5×1.8” (diameter x length). It weighs only 270 grams.
