The AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR offers a very suitable focal length range for DX format users. Slightly wider than the standard 18-5mm kit lens the AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR encompasses Nikon’s Vibration Reduction II technology which offers the photographer the luxury to use four full stops slower shutter speed when hand holding the camera.

Silent Wave Motor technology is a function unique to Nikkor’s lenses which ensures that the auto-focusing mechanism is very quiet. The lens has both SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and M/A technology which is a way for the lens to switch from auto to manual focusing just by turning the focusing ring. Nikor’s internal focusing mechanism ensures that the lens barrel never extend during focusing. A major advantage is that the lens remains discreet when being used. The minimum focusing distance of the lens is 1.3’ (0.38 meters). This means the lens is very effective for close range photography as well.

The widest f-stop of the lens is f/3.5 but it can stop down to f/22. The maximum angle of view is 83° while the minimum is 18°50’. There are 17 lens elements including two ED glass elements and three aspherical glass elements, arranged in 11 groups. There is no manual aperture ring (this is a G type lens). So for all AF-S DSLRs the lens aperture can be set from inside the camera functions.The dimensions of the lens is 2.8×3.4” (diameter x length) and the weight is 485 grams. Available at Amazon | Adorama | B&H
