The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G is a DX format 35mm f/1.8 prime lens. Being a DX format lens, it is optimized for the smaller sensor DSLRs. The f/1.8 G is a fast lens, something that is ideally suitable for low light photography or when you want to capture quick action or when shooting in broad daylight without necessarily having to set a lower ISO.

Nikon has integrated SWM (Silent Wave Motor), AS, M/A and RF technologies in this lens. These acronyms simply translate to quieter operation, reduced ghosting & flares, instant manual overriding by turning the focusing ring even when auto-focusing is turned on and non extending lens barrel when focusing respectively. The last feature helps if you’re into using circular polarizers or neutral density filters.

If you’re planning to use a FX camera then this is not the lens that you should go for as it only gives a DX crop mode in FX format DSLRs. The lens has a total of 8 elements including 1 AS element, arranged in 6 groups. It has a total of 7 blades making up the diaphragm. Nikon has also provided Super Integrated Coating (SIC) in this lens which suppresses flares and increases color saturation.

The lens uses a 52mm filter thread and has a dimension of 2.8×2.1” (diameter x length). The over all weight of the lens is 200 grams.
