If you need a fast ultrawide angle lens, then the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED is worth looking at. It combines a fast aperture of f/1.4 and an ultra-wide angle perspective of 24mm for the FX format Nikon DSLR. This lens also combines Nikon’s state of the art optical technologies.
The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) technology ensures that the lens is very quiet when the auto-focusing is engaged. Nano Crystals eliminates internal reflections and improves the color saturation. Nikon’s Extra-Low Dispersion lens elements ensure suppression of color fringing and improvement of the final image quality. The M/A ensures that the user can engage manual focusing to fine tune the focusing even when the auto-focusing is engaged by simply turning the focus ring. Rear Focusing (RF) ensures that the lens does not extend hen focusing. Only the internal rear lens elements move during focusing.
The fast f/1.4 aperture is supremely useful when shooting in low light taking in a lot of light and properly exposing for the image. At the low end the lens can stop down to f/16. The lens has a maximum angle of view of 61° on a DX format camera and 84° on a FX format camera. There are 12 lens elements arranged in 10 groups. Beautiful rounded 9 blades form the lens diaphragm and is what creates a soft blurry background when the lens is used to shoot at wider f-stops.
The lens takes a filter of size 77mm and weighs 620 grams. It ships with the HB-51 bayonet lens hood, the LC-77 front lens cap and the LF-1 rear lens cap. A CL-1118 soft pouch is also provided for transportation of the lens. Available at Amazon
