Another of Nikon’s 70-300mm lenses but this one has two important aspects that make it slightly better. Internal Focusing (IF) and Extra Low dispersion (ED) elements. Internal focusing is what keeps the lens length virtually unchanged when focusing. Only the internal elements move during focusing. There are 2 ED glass elements in the lens which ensures that color fringing is reduced. Nikon has provided SWM (Silent Wave Motor) technology in this lens which tantamount to silent auto-focusing capabilities. The M/A allows manual override of the focusing even when the lens’ auto-focusing is engaged for accurate on the money focusing.

The AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED has a 9 blade diaphragm which is suitable for creating beautiful bokeh at f/4.5. The lens can stop down to f/32 at the smallest end. It has a maximum angle of view of 22°50′ in DX format and 34°20′ in FX format. It has a minimum angle of view of 5°20′ in DX format and 8°10′ in FX format.

Nikon’s VR (Vibration Reduction) II technology is incorporate into the lens which allows for the user to set it on a shutter speed up to four times slower than usual while hand holding the camera.

There are 17 elements arranged in 12 groups. The minimum focusing distance is 4.9’ throughout the focal length range. This lens uses a filter size of 67mm. it has a weight of 745 grams.
