Overview

This lens offers a 2.5x optical zoom range (120-300mm) on a full frame DSLR. If mounted on an APS-C camera the lens will have a crop factor of 1.5x giving an equivalent field of view of a 180-450mm lens mounted on a full frame camera. There are many great things about this lens and the fast constant aperture of f/2.8 is one of the things that really make this lens one of the best choices for a wild life photography setup. Sigma’s OS (Optical Stabilization) technology ensures that the lens has up to four stops of shake correction. There are many medium-tele photo lenses (300mm/400mm) with a wide f-stop of f/2.8 currently available in the market and the Sigma directly competes with the lot. At f/2.8 this lens is perfect for sports and low light photography. However, having said that, the lens is flexible enough to be used for the purpose of group shots.

One SLD (super-low dispersion) glass element and two FLD (fluorite low-dispersion) glass elements make up the lens construction which has 23 elements arranged in 18 groups. the lens does not extend during focusing or zooming ensuring that it is a discreet piece of photography tool and Sigma’s multi-layer coating ensures that the lens has much less effect from flares and ghosts.
