The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM (Hyper-sonic Motor) lens has been designed for the larger image circle of a full frame DSLR. This lens covers an excellent focal length range ideal for portrait, wild life and other everyday photography requirements. The lens can also be used with an APS-C DSLR albeit with a crop factor that gives the same field of view that of a 105-300mm lens mounted on a full frame camera.
For wild life photography the ability of the lens to adapt to tricky lighting conditions is a primary requirement for photographers. Anything less than f/4 and you’re immediately on the back foot in as much as contrast and sharpness are concerned. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 negates this problem and allows the photographer to negotiate tricky lighting conditions quite easily with its wide and constant f/2.8 aperture. Additionally the OS (Optical stabilization) technology of the lens provides four stops of shake correction. Sigma has also provided ring-type Hyper-sonic motor and a full-time manual override for precise focusing.
The lens has a total of 22 elements including 2 FLD (fluorite low-dispersion) elements and 3 SLD (super low-dispersion) elements arranged in 17 groups. The FLD glass elements give near fluorite element performance in terms of suppressing chromatic aberration, increasing contrast and also ensuring that the cost of producing the lens is cheap. The diaphragm is made up of 9 rounded blades which give a nice soft bokeh for any and all of your portraiture and other shots when you’re using the wide f-stop.
