Overview

The Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD lens shares the same focal length of the Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) lens. However the former has a major advantage and that is it comes with VC (Vibration Control) feature which reduces image blurring when hand holding the camera. Tamron claims that four stops of image stabilization is achieved by the lens. Additionally the lens incorporates Tamron’s USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) technology that allows the lens to be very quiet when focusing.

Di lenses are capable of being used on both full frame and APS-C crop sensor based DSLRs. The lens construction consists of a total of 23 elements including a XLD (Extra low dispersion) element and 4 LD (low dispersion) elements arranged in 17 groups. Full time manual (FTM) focusing is also provided which means the lens allows the photographer to manual focus the lens by overriding the auto-focusing mechanism simply by turning the focus ring. A special moisture preventive construction (MR) has been used in the lens which resists moisture from penetrating the lens and thus affecting its optical qualities.

The rounded diaphragm (RD) of the lens is built with 9 rounded blades giving a wide f/2.8 aperture. Additionally it can stop all the way down to f/32. Even when using a wide aperture the lens has great sharpness all through to f/16.
