Overview
Several aspects of the EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM lens make it a good choice for discerning Canon DSLR users. The EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM covers an excellent focal length range of 24-105mm which makes it ideally suitable for not only a wide range of architectural and landscape photos but also suitable for photographing objects at a fair distance. Compatible on all Canon EOS digital SLRs the EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS USM has a total of 18 elements arranged in 13 groups including one Super-UD glass element and 3 aspherical elements. The lens has excellent suppression of LCA (lateral chromatic aberration) and spherical aberration.
Canon’s Image Stabilization systems ensure that the camera is steady for up to three stops of slower shutter speeds. Hand holding is that much easier with this lens. Additionally the presence of ring-type USM (ultra-sonic motor) means the lens is fast and quiet when auto-focusing. For those who prefer not to waste time switching from auto to manual focusing the lens has FTM (Full-time manual focusing). For precise focusing the photographer can turn the focusing ring even in AF mode without having to flick a change-over switch.
A close focusing distance of 1.48’ means the lens can be used to shoot reasonably small objects and fill the frame. The lens diaphragm is made up of 8 blades with the maximum wide aperture being f/4.
