Overview

For macro photography / close-up photography, the availability of light is a major factor. Unfortunately when you’re up-close and personal, it is very difficult to actually get the proper lighting over the subject. Standard ring lights are often blamed for being too flat and as such often not having the desired effect. The Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX offers an unique lighting proposition for macro photography enthusiasts.

The two heads of the Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX can be rotated around the lens, detached from the mount and independently pointed at the subject or used to bounce off light. They can be controlled wirelessly using E-TTL flash control using one or many 550EX and/or 420EX controlling units.

The flash duration can be controlled as per requirement. One can use 1 second burst at 70Hz in E-TTL or in manual modes. With C.Fn 4-1 (on MT-24EX) it is possible to fire a uniform 1 second burst at 70Hz using a Canon EOS digital SLR.

A variety of custom functions are possible on the Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX. Apart from what the camera functions offer there are 9 custom functions on the MT-24EX. Apart from that a host of exposure control modes including variable to ratio control are possible.

Guide number for the Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX is (when both the lights are fully charged and are firing in unison) 72 (feet) / 22 (m), at ISO 100. The Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX is powered by 2 AA batteries (alkaline, lithium, rechargeable Ni-Cd or Ni-MH).
