Samyang Announced Samyang T-S 24mm F/3.5 ED AS UMC Tilt-Shift Lens Release Date

Samyang TS-24mm ED AS UMC Tilt-Shift Lens

Samyang TS-24mm ED AS UMC Tilt-Shift Lens

The Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with the perspective control and tilt-shift functions. Its unique optical and mechanical construction makes it an ideal tool for architecture and landscape photography. The product is extremely useful to correct convergence of lines and perspective control. The optical tilt mechanisms enable precise control of depth of focus along with perspective control which can also be used for creative photography and perspective exaggeration, enabling photographers to shape the image according to their individual needs. Suitable for both digital and analogue film formats.

Optical design of the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC comprises sixteen lenses arranged in eleven groups, including two aspherical lenses and two Extra Dispersion (ED) lenses. These elements enable the lens to perfectly reproduce detailed elements and provide superior optical performance even when using the tilt and shift (T-S) functionality. Furthermore, each optical component has been covered with multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coatings, which provide superb light transmission, high contrast and natural colours. With sophisticated optics and developed T-S function, the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC is currently the most advanced lens produced by Samyang Optics.

The tilt-shift function in the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC allows for smooth and fine adjustment of the focal plane by an angle of +/-8.5 and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12 mm. To make Tilt-Shift function even more seamless, both the lens mount and the Tilt-Shift section may be rotated on the optical axis. The Tilt-Shift section may be rotated left by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment), while mount of the lens may be rotated both in left and right direction by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment). Filter size is 82mm.

Tokina to Introduce Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX VCM-S

Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX

Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX

Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX

Tokina will introduce a new Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX Lens. The new Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX Lens will feature a Ring-type ultrasonic motor and image stabilization. It will be similar to Canon’s 70-200 f/4 L IS but, it will be little bit shorter, wider and focus closer.

Designed keeping in mind the requirements of mainly full-frame DSLR users the Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO SD IF FX is a medium-telephoto lens that offers a 70-200mm focal length range. The fast constant f/4 aperture is a great feature to have. for users preferring to use this for fast action, sports or even wild life photography the wide aperture of f/4 is going to be suitable for the purpose of handling tricky lighting conditions and or creating a soft bokeh (blurring or out of focus effect) of the subject’s background. A zoom range of 70-200mm means the lens is suitable for a decent amount of coverage for full frame users. Mounted on a crop APS-C body the lens will have a 1.5x focal length multiplication effect which will give it the same field of view as a 105-300mm lens mounted on a full frame body.

The best part of the lens is the image stabilization feature that ensures that the lens is steady even when hand-held and shooting. For users shooting wildlife and or sports or fast action photography and often not having a tripod to rest the camera system on badly misses a image stabilization system in the lens. The lens has a close minimum focusing distance of 1 meter.

The lens has both internal focusing mechanism and zoom which means a non-protruding lens barrel. Tokina has also provided a ring-type ultrasonic focusing motor which ensures that the lens is fast and silent when auto-focusing.

Nikon Celebrates Production of 75 millionth Nikkor lens

Press Release

nikon 75th million

Total Production of NIKKOR Lenses for Interchangeable Lens Cameras Reaches 75 Million

TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce that total production of NIKKOR lenses* for Nikon interchangeable lens cameras reached seventy-five million at the beginning of November 2012.

Nikon (then Nippon Kogaku K.K.) released its first NIKKOR lens for Nikon SLR cameras, the NIKKOR-S Auto 5cm f/2, in 1959 along with its first SLR camera, the Nikon F. Since releasing that first lens many years ago and establishing the NIKKOR tradition, Nikon has expanded its lineup of interchangeable lenses, recently adding a line of interchangeable lenses for Nikon 1 cameras and bringing total production to seventy-five million.

At the end of May 2012, total production of NIKKOR lenses for Nikon SLR cameras reached seventy million. Since then, Nikon has continued to actively release new NIKKOR lenses.

In June 2012, Nikon released the compact and lightweight AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR, a normal zoom lens compatible with the Nikon FX format, offering a frequently-used range of angles of view, and support for a wide variety of photographic scenes, as well as the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, an ultra high-power zoom lens compatible with the Nikon DX format and offering a 16.7x zoom ratio. In addition, AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4G ED VR was announced its release, the Telephoto zoom lens compatible with the Nikon FX format.

New lenses for Nikon 1, Advanced Cameras with Interchangeable Lenses, have also been released recently. In November 2011, the 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8, an extremely light fixed focal length lens with the fastest maximum aperture of f/1.8 was released, and in September 2012, the 1 NIKKOR 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 2.5x normal zoom lens was released. In the year that has passed since the October 2011 introduction of the Nikon 1 system, Nikon has released six 1 NIKKOR lenses, including a low-profile fixed focal length lens, a normal zoom lens, and a high-power zoom lens.

NIKKOR lenses are extremely popular with a wide variety of users, from beginners to professional photographers. The lineup currently consists of more than 80 types of lenses, including zoom lenses, ultra wide-angle to super telephoto lenses, and specialty fisheye, Micro, and PC-E lenses for SLR cameras, as well as 1 NIKKOR lenses for NIKON 1 cameras. Nikon will continue to actively develop and release high-performance, highly functional products that meet and exceed user expectations.

The NIKKOR brand

NIKKOR is Nikon’s brand of photographic lenses. The NIKKOR name comes from adding “R”–a common practice in the naming of photographic lenses at the time the name was established–to “Nikko”, the Romanized abbreviation for Nippon Kogaku K.K. In 1933, the large-format lens for aerial photography was introduced with the name Aero-Nikkor.

NIKKOR lenses incorporate optical technologies that are always ahead of the times. The OP Fisheye-Nikkor 10mm f/5.6 fisheye lens for SLR cameras, released in 1968, was the world’s first lens to incorporate aspherical lens elements. The Ultra Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8, released in 1962, served as the template for projection lenses employed in Nikon IC steppers and scanners that currently boast some of the highest resolutions in the world. What’s more, NIKKOR lenses for the latest SLR cameras utilize a number of cutting-edge technologies that originated with the development of IC steppers and scanners, including Nano Crystal Coat, which virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a broad range of wavelengths.

From initial design to final packaging, production and quality is controlled in accordance with Nikon’s strict standards. The superior quality of NIKKOR lenses that fully satisfies users is ensured with the highest quality designs and manufacturing, as well as very strict final inspections.

Overview

This Art lens is a state-of-the-art alternative to the more conventional 50mm lens. Designed to minimize chromatic aberration, which delivers a cool and smooth out-of-focus image. At low apertures, it performs like a wide-angle lens; @ F1.4, it will provide excellent background bokeh and make the subject pop mimiking mid-range telephoto lens.

Features

The SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is the first lens from the Art line. The Art line is for high-level artistic quality. Sigma recently organized all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines; Contemporary, Art and Sports. Focusing on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, these Art line lenses are designed to delivers high-level artistic expression. These Art lenses are developed to meet the expectations of users who value a creative, dramatic outcome above compactness and multifunction. They are perfect for the kind of photography that unleashes the inner artist such as landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-up, casual or studio photography. They offer expressive scope when capturing architecture, starry skies, underwater shots and many other situations.

Specially designed to compensate for color aberration to ensure unsurpassed expressive performance. Aberration is important factor in lens performance. In terms of aberration, there are chromatic aberration of magnification and axial chromatic aberration. To actualize a high-performance lens, one of the essential elements is These aberration correction needs to corrected to create a high-performance lens. You will be able to correct the chromatic aberration of magnification using photo-editing software. But axial chromatic aberration cannot be corrected afterwards. To overcome, both types of aberration problems this lens adds FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, equivalent to fluorite, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements, and by optimizing the power alignment of the lens. Applying appropriate alignment of aspherical lenses, astigmatism and field curvature are corrected. The result is superior optimum resolution even in peripheral areas and ultra-high image quality through the entire focusing range.

Sigma released its first F1.4 designed lens the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM in 2005. Since then, they continued this trend by introducing high-performance lenses, such as the standard SIGMA 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM for full frame sensor cameras and the medium telephoto lens, the SIGMA 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM. This new lens, SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, is the fourth lens that achieves aperture value at F1.4. This ensures excellent brightness and a beautiful artistic bokeh effect or Attractive blur effect. Thanks to the rounded diaphragm, that  creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

This lens is a excellent choice for astrophotography as well, its coma aberration correction enabled less blur on a point light source in peripheral areas. The use of aspheric lens elements have secured peripheral brightness while correcting distortion.

Others Features

Floating inner focusing system
This system combat for astigmatic aberration and spherical aberration to achieve extremely high quality image performance for close-up photos.

Flare and ghosting conscious design
To achieve high rendering on this lens, flare and ghosting were thoroughly measured from an early stage to establish an optical design which is resistant to strong incident light such as backlight. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.

Hyper Sonic Motor
The Hyper Sonic Motor or HMS ensures high speed and quiet AF as well as FTM or full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring. To achieved smoother AF, this lens also incorporates enhanced AF algorithm.

Brass made bayonet mount
This lens incorporates a metal bayonet mount for durability and reinforce its strength to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use

Ease of use
The new product lines uses rubber for the attachment part of the provided lens hood. The lens cap and AF / MF changeover switch have been improved. To ensure high accuracy, all metallic parts and the new compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has high affinity to metal parts, are housed internally.

New “USB DOCK” exclusively for new product lines
Newly developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.

Evaluation with Sigma’s own MTF measuring system “A1”

All SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM will be checked using this “A1” before they are shipped. “A1” is Sigma’s own proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system, using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. “A1” makes possible to inspect  previously undetectable high-frequency details.

This lens is “Made” in Japan. All Sigma’s manufacturing right down to molds and parts is carried out under an integrated production system, entirely in Japan. We are now one of the very few manufacturers whose products are solely “made in Japan”.

Overview

The Fujifilm X-E1 was launched soon after the X-Pro 1 was launched by the company. It has most of the refinements that the more accomplished and powerful camera has with some refinements of its own. Let’s delve into its specifications and performance to find out more about it.

Features explained

The 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS Sensor

The X-Pro 1 had the same sensor which had completely taken the photography world by storm. It uses a proprietary filter arrangement which has a completely random distribution of the blue, green and red filters unlike the bayer arrangement. The technical stuff aside what it does is that it basically reduces the effects of color moiré when it comes to repeating patterns or close knit weaves of fabric. While other digital cameras use an Optical Low Pass Filter right between the sensor and the rear lens elements the XE-1, resultantly, do not. The effect of the OLP filter is not limited to only eliminating the false colors; they also create a softer image while trying to compensate for moiré. The absence of an OLP filter in the Fuji X-E1 means that the images are that much sharper.

The Electronic viewfinder

The XE-1 does not have the luxury of an optical view finder. However it more than makes up for that with a 2,360,000 dots OLED electronic viewfinder with 100% frame coverage.

The LCD monitor

If you’re migrating from a compact camera then the one feature that you would immediately look into is the ability to compose via a LCD monitor. The X-E1 has a 2.8” LCD monitor that offers a 460,000 dots resolution.

Continuous shooting speed: The X-E1 has a continuous burst rate of 6 fps.

The X-E1 shoot stills in 4896 x 3264 pixels. Alternatively it can shoot RAW (RAF format) and RAW+JPEG. It also shoots full HD movies and 720p HD movies in 24 fps and use the H.264 encoding format. Mono sound is recorded using the built-in mic. There is an option to plug in an external stereo mic via the 2.5mm jack.

Auto-focusing

The X-Pro 1 in spite of being a wonderful camera system has a perennial problem and that is its slowness of response when it came to auto-focusing. This is one of the areas that the X-E1 has been much improved making it a better camera to use. When switched on it bursts to life in less than 0.5 seconds. Additionally the X-E1 can lock on focus in about 0.1 seconds. The shutter lag time has been greatly reduced to only 0.05 seconds.

Storage

The camera uses a single memory card slot compliant with SD/SDHC/SDXC cards.

ISO

The X-E1 has a normal ISO range of 200-6400. However they can be expanded to 100-25600.

What are missing / wish list

The XE-1 loses the optical viewfinder of the X-Pro 1. That in essence is one of the reasons (among many others) why this model costs a good $700 less than the more powerful X-Pro 1.

Similar products

The Sony NEX-7 is one MILC that immediately comes into the comparison chart. The reason is that both systems have an EVF instead of a OVF. Additionally both the systems use an APS-C sized sensor. Come to think of it the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 also uses an APS-C sized sensor but the fact is that it uses a dual viewfinder system and also it’s way above the price of the X-E1.

Should I buy it?

A few factors might work in favor of the X-E1. First is the faster auto-focusing capability. The X-E1 is definitely faster when compared with the X-Pro 1. While the X-Pro 1 is definitely one of the top two mirrorless cameras currently on sale (and we feel that it is better than the Canon EOS M and the Nikon 1 series) the poor performance when it comes to AF definitely works against it. Additionally the X-E1 has a built-in flash which the more expensive model does not have. To sum it we feel that the X-E1 is everything that the X-Pro 1 can offer but at a better price. Being nearly $700 dollars less does also make it a good deal cheaper on the pocket.
