Microsoft introduces Surface Studio – For Creative Professionals
Microsoft Corp. unveiled a broad vision to empower a new wave of creativity with a major update coming to more than 400 million Windows 10 devices and the introduction of Surface Studio, Surface Dial and a more powerful Surface Book.
Expanding the Surface family, Surface Studio is a new class of device that transforms from a workstation into a powerful digital canvas, unlocking a more natural and immersive way to create on the thinnest LCD monitor ever built.1 With a stunning ultra-HD 4.5K screen, Surface Studio delivers 63 percent more pixels than a state-of-the-art 4K TV. Surface Studio works beautifully with pen, touch and Surface Dial — a new input device designed for the creative process that lets you use two hands on the screen to compose and create in all new ways.
Launching as a free update in early 2017, the Windows 10 Creators Update will enable anyone to create, share and experience in 3-D and mixed reality, connect people faster to those they care about most, and empower every gamer to be a broadcaster. And with the Creators Update, Microsoft Edge will be the first browser to fully embrace 3-D.
“At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft. “With Windows 10, Microsoft Surface and the medium of Mixed Reality, we aim to empower the builders, the makers and the creators with the tools to create, collaborate and express themselves in new ways.”
Surface Studio turns your desk into a creative studio
Surface Studio is a new class of device designed for how people naturally create and bring ideas to life. The 28-inch PixelSense™ Display immerses the user in 13.5 million pixels of pure, true-to-life color, and the Zero Gravity Hinge allows the screen to effortlessly adjust to each stage of the creative process. When the screen transitions from Desktop Mode to Studio Mode, it sits at a 20-degree angle, the same angle as a standard drafting board, making it ideal for sketching, writing and designing.
The 6th Generation Intel® Core™ processors accelerated by a discrete NVIDIA® GeForce® GPU deliver smooth and immersive graphics performance and the power to run professional programs such as Siemens’ NX™ software,2 taking people through their workflow from end to end. Now architects can sketch their ideas with the Surface Pen, put them into production using powerful 3-D modeling software, and review and mark up plans with a client, all on one device.
Surface Studio starts at $2,999 estimated retail price (ERP) USD. It is available for pre-order today in the U.S. through Microsoft Stores, MicrosoftStore.com and BestBuy.com, and will begin shipping in limited quantities this holiday with broader availability in early 2017.

Surface Dial — a new spin on creativity
Surface Dial is a new peripheral designed for the creative process. It integrates with Windows 10 to work with Surface for a faster and more intuitive way to scroll, zoom and navigate. The Dial also enables a set of unique experiences exclusive to Surface Studio. When you place the Dial directly on the screen, it brings up a set of digital tools specific to the app that is open, allowing people to more seamlessly move through their workflow. For example, with Surface Dial, artists can change the color or the size of their brush tip as they paint without ever moving the pen away from the screen. The combination of Dial, pen and touch creates a more immersive and tactile way for people to create in digital environments. Partners like BlueBeam Inc.,2 Drawboard,2 Mental Canvas,2 Siemens PLM Software,2 Silicon Benders,2 Smith Micro Software, Inc.2 and StaffPad have already optimized their software to take advantage of the new experiences Surface Dial provides.

Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 – Open for Entries
The Nikon Photo Contest has been one of the world’s largest global photo contests since it was first held in 1969. The objective behind the Contest is to nurture an aspirational community that supports photographers and filmmakers who wish to share important stories and influence the way people think through images.
The Nikon 100th Anniversary Award has been added to commemorate Nikon’s celebration of its 100th anniversary in 2017. New Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR vs 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II – Comparison
Nikon released the New AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR few days back. This is one of their primary lens targeted for professional photographers. The AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II was an excellent lens in terms of its overall performance. According to Nikon the New lens can do even better. They brought about some changes in this model. The most controversial is the changing the position of zoom and focusing ring. In most of the professional Nikkor lenses the Focusing ring lies at the front of the lens and Zoom ring at the back. This time they reversed the position of these two rings. I personally don’t like this, its quite awkward.
On the positive side the new lens can focus closer than the old one (now 3.6ft), it has Fluorine coating which helps to clean the front element easily. Introduction of Electromagnetic diaphragm (E) will be helpful for consistent exposure, even with a teleconverter. Besides they reintroduced the focus memory buttons which was removed in AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II. The new 70-200 is 110gm lighter and little shorter than the old model. VR image stabilization has been enhanced from 3.5 stops to 4.0 stops – not a big change. Nikon also mentioned the lens has no focus breathing effect across the entire zoom range.

With the Leica Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6, Leica expands the lens portfolio of the rangefinder system with the modern renaissance of a classic Leica lens. First introduced as a screw mount lens in 1955, the predecessor of this new lens is still one of the most compact wide-angle lenses in the Leica M-System and is famed for its characteristic signature. The new Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 takes its lead from the classically compact construction of its ancestor and brings the unique, analogue look it lends to pictures into the age of digital photography.
The optical design and mechanical construction of the Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 are identical to those of its predecessor, which was manufactured at the Leitz factory in Wetzlar until 1963. The perfect fusion of latest optical developments, highest quality finishing and optical design show that the new edition of the Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 is much more than a simple reconstruction of an existing lens. Only minimally adapted to the vocabulary of contemporary design, the new version of the Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 is reduced to essentials, but loses none of the character of its legendary ancestor. Its exceptionally short length of less than two centimetres makes it particularly unobtrusive and, together with the incomparable discretion of a Leica M, an ideal lens for street photography. The combination of a clearly laid out depth of field scale and long focus throw allows particularly precise pre-focusing.
The optical design of 6 elements in 4 groups arranged symmetrically around the iris of the new Leica Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 is identical to that of its ancestor. The historic optical design of the original lens has remained completely unchanged. For instance, wide open, the new Leica Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 renders subjects with rich contrast across almost the entire image field. The combination of extreme depth of field, natural contrast rendition, excellent resolution of details and visible vignetting create a unique visual signature and lend pictures a special look reminiscent of earlier days of analogue photography.
The outward appearance of the new Leica Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 has been harmonised with the contemporary looks of the current portfolio of Leica M-Lenses. This applies to the Leica M bayonet mount with 6-bit coding, the shape of the focusing lock button, the diameter of the aperture ring and the style of the knurling on the barrel and rings. The style and construction of the lens hood reflects the original and recalls memories of the beginnings of rangefinder photography. It is machined from solid brass and finished in an elaborate manufacturing process.
As is the case for all other Leica lenses, the Leica Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 was designed and developed by the precision engineers and optical specialists in Wetzlar. As a particularly reliable product with enduring value, it is made in Germany from only the finest materials and assembled in an elaborate process entirely by hand. The combination of cutting-edge technologies and painstaking manufacturing procedures guarantees consistently excellent quality and enduring value.
Customers wishing to purchase a Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6 lens must pre-order. Deliveries will follow according to the sequence in which orders are received. Due to the strong demand, long delivery times must be taken into account, especially in the first few months.

With the Leica Q Titanium gray paint finish, Leica Camera AG offers an alternative design option for its high-performance, compact camera with a fixed fast prime lens and full-frame sensor. In contrast to the discreet black of the body, lens and leather trim of the standard model of the Leica Q, the new colour option stands out with the titanium-gray paint finish of its top deck, the back of the camera and its baseplate. The combination of the look of precious metal and black elements like the leathering and the lens lend the camera its uniquely refined, premium and simultaneously robust look. In comparison with its counterpart in black, the Leica Q Titanium gray paint finish has other characteristic features not found in the standard model. These include the engravings of the feet scale and the focal length numbers on the lens picked out in red, and the colour-coordinated carrying strap made from a robust material used for climbing ropes that is supplied together with the camera.
The Leica Q Titanium gray paint finish will be available from mid-November 2016.
The technical specifications of the Leica Q Titanium gray paint finish are identical to those of the black model and impress users with a fast and intuitive handling concept and a particularly fast lens. Its Leica-Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens makes it ideal for available light situations and has an angle of view that reproduces scenes with natural perspectives and proportions. This makes it the perfect camera for street, architectural and landscape photography. In combination with a 24 MP, full-frame CMOS sensor precisely matched to its lens, the camera delivers richly detailed exposures with low noise in optimum quality at ISO sensitivities of up to 50 000. The Leica Q offers the greatest possible creative freedom for realising even the most demanding photographic ambitions, not least thanks to the practical option of switching between macro, automatic and manual focusing.
To ensure that the decisive moment is never missed, the Leica Q full-frame compact camera has the fastest autofocus in its class and offers precision focusing almost in real-time. At the same time, its image processor from the Leica Maestro II family processes the data from the sensor at an enormous speed and enables continuous shooting at up to ten frames per second at full resolution. To permit reliable control of subject composition at this speed, the Leica Q also features an integrated viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 MP. Even the finest details of every exposure are displayed without any perceptible lag as soon as the camera is brought up to the user’s eye.
All functions of the Leica Q are clearly laid out and logically placed to guarantee perfect ergonomics. Its clear and logical menu concept provides rapid access to all essential functions and enables users to programme personalised settings.
The Leica Q also delivers video recordings in full-HD quality. Depending on the scene and subject, users can choose between 30 and 60 full frames per second for video recording in MP4 format. The camera also features an integrated Wi-Fi module for wireless transmission of still pictures and video to other devices and remote control by WLAN from a smartphone or a tablet PC. The Leica Q app to enable these features can be downloaded free from the Leica website. In addition to a remote release function and display of the viewfinder image, the app also allows the setting of parameters like the aperture and shutter speed from the device employed.

- Designed for landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, interiors and fine art photography
New from Nikon is the latest perspective control lens (designated PC) in the NIKKOR lens lineup, the PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED, a tilt-shift offering that will help photographers master perspective and depth-of-field. For storytellers who yearn to capture optically-challenging subjects like cityscapes and architecture, interiors or unique landscapes, this lens offers 97° of coverage – the widest focal length of any PC lens in the NIKKOR family. Tilt the lens to sharpen focus throughout a scene or create a miniature effect, or shift2 to adjust perspective in-camera, create panoramas or eliminate converging lines. For the first time with a NIKKOR PC lens, the direction of tilt operation can be made parallel or perpendicular to shift, offering users nearly unprecedented ability to control perspective, focus and depth-of-field, without having to lock and unlock to make adjustments.
Sporting a super-wide 19mm focal length, the lens provides a unique perspective ideal for shooting horizontal or vertical panoramas, or even filmmaking. With this ultra-wide angle in mind, the latest FX-format NIKKOR offering was crafted with three ED and two aspherical elements that help combat distortion and glare, while virtually eliminating chromatic aberration and coma, even at the widest aperture settings. The lens also features core NIKKOR technologies such as Nano Crystal Coat to combat ghosting and flare, an electromagnetic diaphragm for fast auto-exposure control, as well as a Fluorine coat that helps resist dirt, water spots and smudges. Ready for a variety of challenging ultra-wide applications, the PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED is a powerful tool for discerning photographers looking for full creative and perspective control. It joins three other Gold Ring Series PC lenses in Nikon’s line-up; the PC-E NIKKOR 24mm F3.5D ED, PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED and the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D.

Premium Camera Bags for Leica Camera by ONA
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the legendary 35 mm camera in 2014, ONA created ‘The Berlin II’, a camera bag designed especially for the Leica M-System. As a follow-up to this collaboration, Leica Camera and ONA have come together again to present ‘ONA FOR LEICA’, a new collection of high quality camera bags. The collection will feature six models crafted by ONA, an American manufacturer of premium camera bags. Each piece will be lined in red and feature a red rivet, a discreet reference to Leica and will be offered exclusively by Leica Camera AG in a range of material and colour combinations.
The Bowery for Leica
This special edition of ‘The Bowery for Leica’ camera bag expresses a mutual commitment to the creation of exceptional products for photographers from both. ONA and Leica. The bag is specially designed to provide stylish and practical protection for Leica camera equipment. Two of the five models are crafted from finest quality Italian leather with a lightly waxed finish. The remaining three models are made from a robust and waterproof canvas fabric. With five compartments, it offers enough room for a Leica M-Camera, one to two M-Lenses and various personal items. By detaching the carrying strap, the bag becomes an ideal, padded insert for safely stowing camera equipment in a larger bag or case. Its cleverly designed features, variable stowage options, compact size and minimalist design make it a universal and modern camera bag.
The Prince Street for Leica
Uniting the looks of a casual shoulder bag with the practical advantages of a camera bag ‘The Prince Street for Leica’ is a unique messenger style. Two models in finest leather and three in robust canvas with real leather trim offer ample space for photographic equipment. The two clip-buckles in retro-look ensure that its valuable contents are safely locked away. Six compartments allow an M-Camera with two to three lenses, an 11-inch laptop or tablet PC and other personal items to be safely and unobtrusively stowed away.
The Brixton for Leica
This bag was designed with ample space and available in five different versions. The ‘Antique Cognac’ and ‘Dark Brown’ models are crafted from finest Italian leather and finished by waxing. The water-repellent waxed canvas of the other three bags of the collection keeps cameras and equipment safely and sound. All five handcrafted models offer practical features, numerous outer pockets and compartments and adaptable stowage space with room for a camera, two to three lenses, small personal items and even a 13-inch laptop computer. The bags are available in water-repellent canvas in the colours ‘Black’, ‘Field Tan’ and ‘Smoke’ (water-repellent canvas) and in real leather in ‘Antique Cognac’ and ‘Dark Truffle’.
The Berlin II for Leica
This exclusive bag is hand crafted from finest Italian leather in the colours ‘Black’ or ‘Vintage Bourbon’ and specially designed for the Leica M-System. The premium leather style offers room for one camera, two to three lenses and small personal items and develops a unique patina in years of use that reflects its truly unique character. Additional stowage space inside the bag is extremely flexible and lined in typical Leica red: four dividers can be used to apportion the space to meet specific needs and can be completely removed if required. The bag, available in a choice of ‘Black’ or ‘Vintage Bourbon’ leather, offers space for documents in a compartment on the back and features a front pocket with a zip-fastener for stowing small personal items.
The Camps Bay for Leica
The stylish rucksack in water-repellent canvas and real leather appliqués is simply ideal for the comfortable transportation of large amounts of equipment. The space inside can be adapted to meet the needs of each individual’s photographic equipment or to make room for additional personal items. The padded main compartment provides space for the safe stowage of one camera with up to seven lenses and a 17-inch laptop computer, while smaller items can be stowed away in a pocket with a zip-fastener on the front of the rucksack. Both the straps and the back of the rucksack are padded and covered with breathable fabric to ensure ideal comfort when carrying the ‘Smoke’ coloured canvas rucksack.
The Roma for Leica
This practical insert with five compartments transforms almost any ordinary bag into a camera bag. The robust, water-repellent canvas of the insert offers sufficient protection for valuable equipment and real leather grips to make it easier to remove from bags. This cleverly designed combination of a bag and an organiser is exactly the right thing for photographers to take along when they need only a camera, a lens and a couple of small items.
ONA is a purveyor of fine bags and accessories designed for and inspired by photographers and creative professionals. Each bag is elaborately hand crafted from the highest quality materials, conveniently sized, built to last for years and captivate with minimalist design. The bags provide ideal protection for precious Leica cameras and lenses while reflecting photographer’s inimitable personal style.
