Sigma 24-35mm F2 DG HSM Art lens Release date, Pricing & Availability Announced!
Sigma today announced that the new Sigma 24-35mm F2 DG HSM Art lens will become available in late July for the street price of $999.
Key Features
-
The 24-35mm F2 DG HSM Art lens is the market’s first full-frame zoom that allows photographers to carry one fast aperture lens that can do the work of three popular fixed focal length lenses – the 24mm, 28mm and 35mm. It includes an optimized autofocus (AF) algorithm for smooth, fast, and accurate focusing, a manual focus (MF) override functionality, and is made of Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) reducing its size and weight.
- Large-diameter, aspherical lens elements, which require advanced technologies to produce, one “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass, and seven Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements with two aspherical lenses. The advanced optics and optimized lens power distribution minimizes spherical aberration, axial chromatic aberration and field curvature, resulting in outstanding optical performance
- A video-friendly, inner focusing system that eliminates front-lens rotation, enhancing the lens’ stability and allowing use of circular polarizing filters
- A Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) that ensures a silent, high-speed AF function. Smoother AF is achieved when the this AF algorithm is optimized
- Full-time MF by rotating the focus ring of the lens while auto focusing
- A nine-blade, rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image

The Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer)
The LUMIX GX8 integrates Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer)3 for the first time in LUMIX G series allowing for more powerful vibration correction. Conventional image stabilization in the camera (Body I.S.) and the interchangeable lens (Lens I.S.) can be switched. However, with the new Dual I.S., both Body I.S. and Lens I.S. work at the same time to take advantage of both stabilizers not only in wide angle shooting but also in telephoto. With max.3.5x (wide) / 1.5x (tele)4 wider correction angle, you can get clear handheld images even in low-lit situations where the shutter speed tends to be slower. Panasonic LUMIX G DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) Cameras offer a wide variety of digital interchangeable lenses and most of them are able to conform with Dual I.S.
For video recording, 5-Axis HYBRID O.I.S.+ (Optical Image Stabilizer Plus)5 which has been available in Panasonic’s professional video camera development, corrects complex movement for more stable imagery.
Unprecedentedly High Picture Quality in the History of LUMIX Cameras
The LUMIX GX8 integrates the newly developed Digital Live MOS Sensor that helps achieve the highest image quality of LUMIX G digital cameras. By increasing the resolution from 16.0-megapixel (GX7) to 20.3-megapixel, higher descriptiveness is achieved and the faster digital signal readout enables higher speed burst shooting. Moreover the LUMIX GX8 features 1/3 stop wider dynamic range than the LUMIX GX7 which suppresses washout even in high contrast situations. The combination of the Digital Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine achieves clear image rendering with minimum noise even in low-lit situations and stunning picture quality in a natural way.
The Venus Engine image processor with quad-core CPU enables high speed signal processing. Optimizing the combination design of the sensor, the imaging engine and the low-pass filter enhances the resolution by approx. 15% in comparison with the LUMIX GX7. The aperture filter is capable of controlling a wider frequency range. It adjusts the amount of sharpness according to the frequency level, resulting in faithful stereoscopic effect. The advanced Multi-process NR (Noise Reduction) applies effective noise reduction and detail processing according to each component frequency. Plus, the newly added Random Filter granulates chromatic noise to be blended into the image more naturally. As a result, the max. ISO 25,600 is achieved. The Venus Engine also improves color reproduction with accurate evaluation of each color even if it is similar not only in color phase but also in saturation and luminosity. In addition, the Venus Engine in the GX8 excels in diffraction compensation to make the resulting image crisp and clear even when photographed with a small aperture.
4K Capability Bringing the Evolution in Videography/Photography – 4K Video and 4K Photo
All LUMIX G cameras, especially the LUMIX GH4, are renowned for their capability of high quality video recording. The LUMIX GX8 records stunningly smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K video in 3840×2160 at 30p (60Hz) or 24p in MP4 unlimited in addition to the full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60p (60 Hz) videos in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF.
Taking advantage of 4K video recording performance, users can enjoy “4K Photo” with the LUMIX GX8. With 4K Photo, users can capture fleeting photo opportunities at 30 fps in 8-megapixel equivalent resolution by grabbing a frame out of the 4K burst file to save as a photo. Three exclusive functions are integrated to make the 4K photography even easier; 4K Burst Shooting, 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst. The 4K Burst Shooting allows almost unlimited shooting at 30 fps, which can be used just like regular photo burst shooting. The 4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) mode starts consecutive shooting with a single press of a shutter button and stops it with the second press, which is more suitable for the shooting opportunities that require a longer waiting time. The 4K Pre-burst automatically records a total of 60 images right before/after the shutter release.
All these functions in 4K Photo allow users to save images in 8-megapixel equivalent high resolution; 3840×2160 (16:9), 3328×2496 (4:3), 3504×2336 (3:2), 2880×2880 (1:1) without missing the shot. Notably photos shot with 4K Photo mode have EXIF information and can be handled just as the images shot normally.
- MP4 Motion pictures with their file size set to [FHD], [HD] or [VGA]: Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds or the file size exceeds 4GB.
- – Since the file size becomes larger with [FHD], recording with [FHD]will stop before 29 minutes 59 seconds.
- MP4 Motion pictures with their file size set to [4K]: Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
- – You can continue recording without interruption even if the file exceeds 4GB, but the motion picture will be recorded/played back separately.

Stunning Mobility Supported by Mechanical Advancements
The LUMIX GX8 boasts a large, tiltable LVF that boasts highest ever magnification ratio of approx.1.54x / 0.77x (35mm camera equiv.) in the history of LUMIX G digital cameras. It also features 2,360K-dot high resolution and 100% field of view. High-precision, high-speed dual OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) displays for LVF (Live View Finder) and rear monitor. It also features an eye point of approximately 21 mm, offering high visibility and comfort for users wearing glasses. The tiltable LVF offers extraordinary angle of view with unique shooting style – looking down into the viewfinder to level the camera straight on the subject. Thanks to the newly designed large eyecup, the visibility of LVF is dramatically improved. Adoption of OLED for the LVF and rear monitor achieves high speed response with a minimum time lag of less than 0.01 sec as well as 10,000:1 high contrast which allows users to check white washout or black shadows more precisely.
Adopting a static-type touch control system, the free-angle 3-inch rear monitor with 1040K-dot high resolution features approx.100% field of view. It rotates approx.180-degree and tilts up by approx.250-degree, making it easy to shoot from a high or low angle even in vertical composition.
To be tough enough to withstand even heavy field use, the LUMIX GX8 adopted a rugged design with the main structure composed of magnesium alloy full die cast front/rear frame. It also features splash / dustproof construction thanks to the sealing on every joint, dial, and button.
To further enhance the controllability, the LUMIX GX8 comes with an exposure compensation dial in addition to the front/rear dials, which lets users set -5EV to +5EV. Users can change settings such as aperture and shutter speed with the front/rear dials and can also customize the assignment of functions even on Fn buttons. Furthermore, it is also possible to make a temporary shift of dial functions with Dial Operation Switch. For example, users can adjust white balance with a front dial and set ISO with a rear dial while choosing the shutter speed or seeing the noise effect, which is helpful in the complex lighting situations. Either AFS/AFC/MF can be switched with the dedicated focus lever.
The Top Level of AF Performance among Conventional DSLRs and Mirrorless Cameras
The Contrast AF in the LUMIX GX8 achieves higher speed and precision focusing with digital signal communication at max. 240 fps. Furthermore, the DFD (Depth Defocus) technology6 calculates the distance to the subject by evaluating 2 images with different sharpness level while consulting the data of optical characteristics of the current lens. As a result, the LUMIX GX8 achieves ultra-high speed AF of approx.0.07 sec7. This improvement will be noticed more as focal length increases. The speed of burst shooting is dramatically faster than the predecessor LUMIX GX7, boasting high speed burst shooting at 8 fps (AFS) / 6 fps (AFC) to capture fast moving subject perfectly in-focus. The Low Light AF makes it possible to set focus on the subject more precisely even without AF assist lamp in extremely low-lit situations to -4EV, which is as dark as a moonlit night. Plus, the LUMIX GX8 integrates Starlight AF which allows users to shoot a star in the sky at night with auto focus. This can be achieved with accurate calculation of contrast values in a smaller AF zone. The focus detect area is increased from 23 (LUMIX GX7) to 49 points for more flexible composition and together with Custom Multi AF mode users can freely select the blocks to focus out of the 49 in the focusing area. In addition to conventional Face Recognition AF, the LUMIX GX8 newly incorporates Face / Eye Detection AF which automatically sets focus right on the eye of human face. With the Pinpoint AF, users can even magnify the target area to set precise focus. With the new algorithm of AF Tracking, not only the color but also the size and motion vector of the target are recognized, enabling the camera to lock on the subject even more securely. The result is the AF tracking performance of approx.200% or greater which refrains the camera from losing the subject8.

Features
Stunning Image Quality from 25mm Ultra Wide Angle to 600mm.
The LUMIX FZ300 inherits a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 25mm ultra wide-angle lens with a 24x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm) that achieves full range at F2.8. Comprised of 14 elements in 11 groups, including 3 ED lenses and 5 aspherical lenses with 9 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit has a compact body that delivers exceptional optical performance suppressing distortion at the wide end and color bleeding at the tele end. To achieve full range F2.8 with shallow depth of field, high precision correction performance against distortion is essential.
With Nano Surface Coating technology, light reflection is dramatically minimized by an entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in super clear images with a dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
The O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) effectively suppresses vibration enabling clear, sharp images from wide angle to telephoto. The combination of a 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor and the new Venus Engine achieves even higher picture quality. The advanced Multi-process NR (Noise Reduction) feature applies effective noise reduction and detail processing according to each component frequency. Plus, the newly added Random Filter granulates chromatic noise to be blended into the image even more naturally. As a result, ISO 6400 has been achieved. The aperture filter is capable of controlling over a wider frequency range, and adjusts the amount of sharpness according to the frequency level, resulting in faithful stereoscopic effect. The Venus Engine in the LUMIX FZ300 excels in diffraction compensation to make the resulting image crisp and clear even when shot with a small aperture. In addition, the Venus Engine also improves color reproduction with accurate evaluation of each color even if it is similar not only in color phase but also in saturation and luminosity. The combination of the Digital Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine achieves stunning picture quality in its natural way – exactly what LUMIX aspires for.
4K Capability Bringing the Evolution in Videography/Photography – 4K Video and 4K Photo
The LUMIX FZ300 records stunningly smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K video in 3840×2160 at 30p (60Hz) or 24p in MP4 in addition to the full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60p (60 Hz) videos in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF.
With the LUMIX FZ300 you can take advantage of 4K video recording performance with “4K Photo mode.” Users can capture photo opportunities at 30 frames per second in 8-megapixel equivalent resolution by grabbing and saving the best frame out of the 4K burst file as a photo. Three exclusive functions are integrated to make the 4K photography even easier; 4K Burst Shooting, 4K Burst (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst. The 4K Burst Shooting1 allows consecutive shooting at 30 fps, which can be used just like a photo burst shooting. The 4K Burst (Start/Stop) mode starts consecutive shooting with a single press of a shutter button and stops it with the second press, which is suitable for longer shooting opportunities. The 4K Pre-burst automatically records a total of 60 images right before/after the shutter release. All these functions in 4K Photo mode enable saving pictures in 8-megapixel equivalent high resolution; 3584×2684(4:3), 3800×2534(3:2), 4000×2248(16:9), 2928×2928(1:1) without missing that special moment.
The powerful 24x optical zoom with smooth 2-step zoom and 5-Axis HYBRID O.I.S.+(Optical Image Stabilizer Plus)2 are available in video recording, too. The 5-Axis correction compensates for the vibration occurring in virtually any direction.
High Speed Video enables recording subject with fast motion at 120 fps (NTSC / HD) or 240 fps (VGA), while Time Lapse /Stop Motion Animation are also available.
- Motion pictures with their file size set to [FHD], [HD] or [VGA] in [MP4]: Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds or the file size exceeds 4GB.
- – Since the file size becomes larger with [FHD], recording with [FHD] will stop before 29 minutes 59 seconds.
- Motion pictures with their file size set to [4K] in [MP4]:
- Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
- – You can continue recording without interruption even if the file exceeds 4GB, but the motion picture will be recorded and played back in separate files.
Rugged Design and Better Control
To be tough enough to withstand even heavy field use, the LUMIX FZ300 adopts splash / dustproof rugged design passing the stringent test quality standard of DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) flagship cameras despite its structure with a range of moving parts.
The LUMIX FZ300 integrates a large, bright 1,440K-dot OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) LVF (Live View Finder) with approx.100% field of view in 4:3 aspect. It boasts 0.7x magnification and astonishingly high contrast at 10,000:1. Suppressing both blown highlights and blocked shadows, the LVF in the LUMIX FZ300 assures outstanding viewability under any circumstances. The image output between the LVF and the rear monitor is switched automatically with the eye sensor on the LVF.
Adopting a static-type touch control system, the 3-inch free-angle rear monitor features approx.100% field of view. The touch-control system immediately lets users set focus on the subject simply by touching the screen and releasing the shutter. It is free and easy to enlarge the target point with fingertips to set precise focus. Thanks to the increased resolution up to approx.1040K-dot and improved color reproduction, the LUMIX FZ300 secures higher visibility even in sunny conditions. To further enhance the controllability, the LUMIX FZ300 has a side dial in addition to the rear dial. Users can change settings such as aperture, shutter speed with the side /rear dials and can also customize the assignment of functions as well on the Fn buttons. Furthermore, it is also possible to make a temporary shift of dial functions with Dial Operation Switch.
High Speed Response and Stunning AF Performance
For even faster response and higher mobility, the LUMIX FZ300 integrates a dedicated linear motor into the focusing system to achieve ultra-high-speed AF. In addition, the Light Speed AF is further enhanced with an adoption of DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology3 which shortens the time to set focus. It calculates the distance to the subject by evaluating 2 images with different sharpness level at 240 fps high signal exchange speed. As a result, the LUMIX FZ300 achieves ultra high speed AF of approx. 0.09 sec4, which is approx. 350% faster than LUMIX FZ200. This improvement is more beneficial as focal length increases. The LUMIX FZ300 boasts high speed burst shooting at 12 fps (AFS) / 6 fps (AFC) to capture a fast moving subject just in-focus. The LUMIX FZ300 is capable of releasing the mechanical shutter at max.1/4,000 sec (at 25mm wide end) and 1/3,200 sec (at 600mm tele end) and even at 1/16,000 with electronic shutter, which reduces washouts even under strong sunlight.
Together with the quick start-up of approx. 0.88 sec, the LUMIX FZ300 never lets photographers miss shooting opportunities.
The LUMIX FZ300 also comes with new focusing options. The Full Area AF allows setting focus on any part of the approx.100% field of view. The Pinpoint AF helps focusing on tiny area by magnifying the part that can be watched with a frame-in-frame window. With the Low Light AF, AF works in -3EV low-lit situations which is as dark as the moonlight sky with no other light source. For more practical control over focusing, the LUMIX FZ300 incorporates Focus Peaking function that shows the focus position in MF and AF+MF mode. Users can see the peaking of focus while monitoring the subject in live view. In addition to the conventional Face Recognition AF, the LUMIX FZ300 incorporates Eye Detection AF which automatically sets focus right on the eye of human face. The Eye Sensor AF starts focusing by just looking into the LVF. Tracking AF is also advanced in the point of tracking accuracy by estimating the subject’s movement.

Panasonic is developing a LUMIX G 25 mm/F1.7 single focal length lens Along with the LEICA DG 100-400mm F/4.0-6.3 lens. Both lenses will have a technological function called “Post Focus.”
Post Focus will enable users to select an “in-focus” area after shooting with a simple interface. This function has been developed as a further evolution of 4K Photo technology to prevent out-of-focus errors and offer additional creative freedom. By combining high-speed, high-precision DFD (Depth From Defocus) auto focus technology and the 4K Photo burst images in 4K resolution are shot at 30 fps while shifting the lens to set focus on approx.50 areas (*TBC).
With the Post Focus function, the best image can be selected from the 4K burst images shot with different focus areas. Once the composition is fixed, you are free from the job of serious focusing. In addition, this function can be used for creative photography such as landscapes or portraits. Users can pull different impressions out of one picture by changing the subject to enhance it with focus. The operation of the Post Focus function is quite easy – just touch the point where you want to set focus while playing back the image, no matter where the original focus area is, and the image with different in-focus area will be produced as a separate photo. Panasonic will introduce this Post Focus function via a firmware update for LUMIX GX8, LUMIX FZ300 and some other models in late 2015 and 2016 will study to integrate it into upcoming LUMIX digital cameras as well.
This lens is a 50mm (35 mm camera equivalent) single focal length lens with a large diameter. The 50mm focus distance offers almost the same viewing angle and sense of perspective of human eyes which means users can enjoy shooting a portrait or scenery as they see.
The new lens also supports high speed digital signal exchange at 240 fps to comply with the high-speed, high-precision AF (Auto Focus) with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology on the LUMIX G cameras.
Panasonic will continue to further advance its product development to meet the diverse needs of customers in the expanding digital mirrorless camera market.

Panasonic is developing the first LEICA DG 100-400mm / F4.0-6.3 telephoto zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 200-800mm) for the Micro Four Thirds system standard to expand the lineup of DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) digital interchangeable lenses. The lens will have technological function called “Post Focus.” Another lens that will also have the same technology is the LUMIX G 25 mm/F1.7 Lens

The LEICA DG lenses are designed and developed under the stringent quality standard certified by Leica that boast excellent optical performance. Four single focal length LEICA DG lenses have already introduced to the market and have been highly acclaimed by users worldwide.
The new telephoto zoom achieves exceptional imaging performance over the entire zoom range. It also features high speed digital signal exchange at 240 fps to comply with the high-speed, high-precision AF (Auto Focus) with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology on LUMIX G cameras. Together with the POWER O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer), it lets users to focus on the target quickly to capture crisp, clear images. In addition, the new lens is both light and small and is splash/dust-proof to withstand heavy field use. As the new telephoto zoom lens excels in size and weight, it enables handheld 800mm (35mm camera equivalent) telephoto shooting without using a tripod.

How to Photograph Silhouettes – Tips, Settings and Ideas
How to Photograph Silhouettes
Silhouettes are black shapes or opaque outlines of people, animals or objects that are created due to the main source of light being behind them. While photographing architecture, people or anything else, we have inadvertently clicked silhouettes and have often rued about a lost photography opportunity. Come to think of it silhouettes, if done properly, can offer you some excellent pictures because they tend to imply a lot more than what is visible in plain light.
Metering
When creating silhouettes, always meter for the background which in this case is always going to be brighter than the foreground. Resultantly, the subjects (whose silhouettes you’re going to capture) are going to be darker than the background and will be more prominently in black. The easiest way to do this is by focusing on the brighter part of the frame and then half-pressing the shutter release. Notice how the viewfinder lights up with the Exposure Value details. Note them down and switch to manual mode. Now, set the Exposure Value manually and then refocus on the subject with the metering absolutely what you want. Depending on the subject, whether it is stationary or mobile you might have to change the Exposure Value to ensure a blur-free image.
Don’t fire the flash
Never ever fire the flash when you’re intending to capture a silhouette. In such cases lighting up the subject is the last thing that you want.
Positioning of the light source
The best place to position the subject is between you and the dominating / main light source. Ideally the position should be devoid of any ambient light too as it can partially illuminate the subject and reduce the chances of getting a perfectly black silhouette.
Cut down on the angle
Move closer to the subject and cut down on the visible frame. This is going to help you to eliminate much of the background and any direct light falling on the camera. Also doing so you will have a better chance of filling the frame with the subject’s silhouette.
Focusing
We discussed about manually setting the Exposure Value in the first step above. Apart from manually setting the Exposure Value you will also need to ensure that you get the subject precisely in focus. However, this is easier said then done, as you will be pushing the auto-focus system of your camera to the brink of its capability; and yet it would fail miserably to lock focus on the subject with the available light. The solution is to use good old manual focusing. Simply switch to manual focusing mode and lock focus on the subject keeping the Exposure Value as discussed in the first tip. Now you’re ready to press the shutter release.
Aperture settings & other bits
Start with a big f-stop (smaller aperture). This will ensure that much of your frame is in sharp focus. ideally you want the complete frame from corner to corner to be in focus as this is the only way you can add something to your pictures already devoid of colors. If you have a more than one subjects to capture (may be a group of people), have them stand at a reasonable distance from each other so that their shapes can be easily identified. Similarly, if you choose to photograph a person against an architecture, have her stand well clear of it so that both the shapes can be easily identified.
