High-quality, high-resolution image delivered by the GR 18.3mm F2.8 lens

The GR II features a compact, high-performance GR lens with a focal length of 28mm (in the 35mm format). This lens incorporates two high-precision aspherical optical elements and a high-refraction, lower-dispersion glass element to minimize distortions and chromatic aberration, while reproducing sharp, high-contrast images even at edges of the image field. Thanks to its crisp image rendition (even at the maximum aperture of F2.8) and its faithful image reproduction against backlight, the user can truly enjoy the charm of a unifocal lens.
Thanks to its nine-blade iris diaphragm, the lens creates a truthful sense of depth and a natural bokeh (defocusing) effect, while allowing the user to capture beautiful light beams at closed-down apertures.
Thanks to the incorporation of an ND (Neutral Density) filter, which can be operated manually or automatically, this lens allows for the use of the open aperture even under sunny, bright skies. It adds a new dimension to photographic creativity in outdoor shooting.

Large image sensor and GR ENGINE V, with upgraded AWB control and high-sensitivity noise compensation

The GR II features a large, APS-C-size CMOS image sensor with approximately 16.2 effective megapixels. Equal in imaging area to the one used for PENTAX digital SLR models, this sensor assures super-high-resolution images.
By coupling the large image sensor with the high-performance GR ENGINE V imaging engine, the GR II provides a top sensitivity of ISO 25600. By reprogramming the AWB algorithm, it assures more precise white-balance control under artificial lighting such as fluorescent lights, while reducing the color bleeding of green hues in outdoor shooting. Also by fine-tuning the compensation program against high-sensitivity noise, it improves image quality and enhances resolution and contrast, while minimizing annoying noise.
As the result, it delivers high-quality images with a truthful sense of depth and a beautiful bokeh effect.
The GR II features an image sensor ensures the best performance of the GR lens.
By eliminating an anti-aliasing filter to enhance resolution, it optimizes the potential of the lens to deliver sharp, high-quality images even at edges.

The first GR-series model to feature Wi-Fi and NFC functions

The GR II comes equipped with Wi-Fi functions for wireless connection with mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. It is also compatible with NFC (Near Field Communication) functions for easy pairing with mobile devices.
The GR II provides two types of applications: GR Remote for easy setting of various commands using a mobile device’s screen, just like on the camera’s LCD panel; and Image Sync for easy transfer and browsing of recorded images using a mobile device.
GR Remote has been developed exclusively for the GR II. This browser application supports transfer and browsing of recorded images; remote shooting while checking the scene using the camera’s live-view function; adjustment of aperture, shutter speed and ISO sensitivity, and even display; and adjustment of the camera’s detailed menus on a mobile device’s screen.
It also provides a function that resets all settings at once. This application enhances the outstanding operability and customization symbolic of the GR series.
Also used in PENTAX digital SLR models, Image Sync provides intuitive interface that simplifies browsing of recorded images on a mobile device’s screen, transfer of selected images to another device, and uploading of recorded images to SNS websites.

Ricoh GR

High-speed shooting operation to capture critical shutter chances

The GR II’s high-speed AF system captures a subject in focus in a mere 0.2 seconds,* thanks to the optimization of its lens drive mechanism and AF algorithm and the high-speed readout of image data obtained by the image sensor. It also provides a very short start-up time lag of approximately one second. These features allow the user to capture once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities in sharp, crisp images.
Thanks to high-speed continuous shooting of approximately four images per second, the GR II preserves the decisive moment of a fast-moving subject in sports and animal photography. Thanks to its increased buffer memory capacity, it continuously captures as many as 10 images in a single sequence during RAW-format shooting.
Even when the GR II is set in the playback mode using an extended push on the playback button, the user can instantly shift to the shooting mode by pressing the shutter release button half way down.
* Measured in compliance to CIPA standards.

Pentax Ricoh GR II 00

Pocket-sized body to enhance operability and portability

Even though it incorporates a host of Wi-Fi functions, the GR II comes in the same size as the GR. Its exterior housing is made of lightweight, high-rigidity magnesium alloy, while its grip is shaped for easy, comfortable hold. Overall, the GR II inherits the basic design scheme of the acclaimed GR series.
The GR II features a control button layout that enables simple one-hand operation. On its side panel, it provides the Wi-Fi + Effect button, which double-functions as a Fn (Function) button. As was the case with the GR, the user can assign the aperture preview function to this button to check the depth of field before shooting.
The GR II provides a Focus Assist function to support focusing operations. In combination with image magnification and FA/Move Target functions, the user can also take advantage of the Focus Assist function in manual-focus operation.
When the user sets the C-AF (Continuous AF) mode using the AF function switching lever and the AF button, the GR II continuously keeps focusing on a moving subject as long as the AF button is being depressed. The user can also program the GR II to activate the high-speed continuous shooting function simultaneously.
The GR II provides the innovative TAv (Shutter and Aperture-priority AE) mode, which is also featured in PENTAX digital SLR cameras. This mode automatically selects the most appropriate sensitivity for a given scene or subject when the user sets desired aperture and shutter speed.
During shooting, the GR II’s LCD monitor displays the aperture value, shutter-speed indicator, grid guide, and biaxial electronic level that indicates the camera’s horizontal and vertical inclinations.
Despite its large-aperture lens, the GR II features a lens barrier mechanism that automatically opens and closes, allowing the user to swiftly react even to unexpected shutter opportunities.

Six effect modes newly added to expand creative options

The GR II provides a total of 17 effect modes, which allow the user to apply a variety of image processing within the camera to create the desired visual expression. Including Clarity and Brilliance, six modes have been newly added to the selection, allowing the user to adjust some parameters to the desired level. The user can set the desired mode simply by pushing the Effect button on the camera’s side panel.
New effect modes
(1) Clarity: Compensates the subject’s texture and unevenness. The level of tone, clearness, saturation and vignetting is adjustable.
(2) Brilliance: Compensates the subject’s luster. The level of luster, saturation, contrast, sharpness and vignetting is adjustable.
(3) Bright: Creates an image with enhanced colors. The level of saturation, contrast, sharpness and vignetting is adjustable.
(4) Portrait: Creates a color scheme ideal for the subject’s skin tone. The level of saturation, contrast, sharpness and vignetting is adjustable. The focus mode is set at Face Detection AF.
(5) Vibrant: Creates elegant, striking colors. The level of saturation, contrast, sharpness and vignetting is adjustable.
(6) HDR Tone: Creates a painting-like image by emphasizing contrast. The level of tone, saturation and vignetting is adjustable.

A full range of shooting functions

(1) The GR II provides an in-camera RAW data development function. After shooting RAW-format images, the user can adjust a variety of parameters within the camera, and output them as JPEG-format image files. The GR II now offers a choice between Normal and Original modes for the peripheral brightness level setting.
(2) The GR II provides an Interval Composite function, which captures a series of night sky images at a fixed interval, then extracts only highly bright areas from each image to composite a single image. The GR II now allows the user to save the image as a RAW-format file, and use it for RAW-data development to create more artistic images. This function comes in handy when the user wishes to capture a nightscape with traces of the moon and stars in the sky.
(3) The GR II comes equipped with a wireless flash discharge function. Since it triggers a compatible accessory flash unit designed for PENTAX digital SLR cameras* from a distance, it simplifies creative flash settings in studio shooting.
(4) The GR II now features a CTE (Color Temperature Enhancement) mode for white-balance control, making it possible to emphasize a predominant color within the image, such as the red in sunset scenes.
(5) The GR II’s Dynamic Range Compensation function minimizes white-washed highlights and blacked-out shadows by compensating the brightness level pixel by pixel and reducing the boundaries between areas of varying luminance levels. As the result, the GR II delivers rich-gradation images with fine details.
(6) The GR II l also provides an Auto Macro function** that detects the subject’s distance and automatically switches to the Macro shooting mode in close-distance shooting, and a Face Detection AF function*** that captures a beautiful image of the subject’s face with very little effort.
* Compatible accessory flash units are AF540FGZ II, AF360FGZ II, AF540FGZ and AF360FGZ.
** This function is available only when the AF button is used, or when the camera is set in Auto shooting mode.
*** This function is available only when the camera is set in Auto shooting mode and in Portrait effect mode.

Full HD movie recording for high-quality, extended movie clips

The GR II captures beautiful Full HD movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 ratio, 30 frame rate) in the H-264 recording format. By teaming this function with the GR lens and the large image sensor, the GR II assures high-quality movies. During movie recording, the user can also adjust exposure compensation and use the AF button to activate the AF operation, whose speed is faster than before. Three new effect modes (Bright, Portrait and Vibrant) can also be used in movie shooting.

Key features

  • 20.1MP 1.0-type stacked CMOS sensor with DRAM chip
  • 24-70mm ZEISS®Vario-Sonnar T* lens
  • ISO 12800
  • Super-speed shooting at 1/32000 sec.
  • Anti-Distortion Shutter—greatly reduces image distortion
  • Casual 4K shooting of up to 5 minutes
  • Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity with NFC

20.1 MP (effective) 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor
The world’s first 1.0-type stacked CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip enables up to 40x super slow motion and up to 1/32000 sec. super-high-speed shutter beyond human perception. The extended circuit features higher signal processing capacity and more than five times faster high-speed readout than conventional models.

ZEISS®Vario-Sonnar T* lens for high depiction
Large-diameter ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F1.8-2.8 lens allows wide-angle shooting out to 24 mm. Maximum aperture of F2.8 brightness at the telephoto end enables shooting images without camera shake and subject motion blur and capturing photos (such as portraits) with beautiful background defocusing. ZEISS T* Coating reduces ghost and flare

BIONZ X™ for superior detail and texture
Digital cameras convert light captured by their sensor into digital images. Since the engine that powers conversion is as important as your lens and sensor, the RX100 IV features the high-speed BIONZ X processor for more natural details, more realistic images, richer tonal gradations, and lower noise while shooting photos and movies.

Up to 16fps continuous shooting without blackout
Thanks to the new super-high-speed image sensor—and despite its 20.1 MP high pixel count—the camera features accelerated readout speed that helps achieve continuous shooting up to 16fps. This lets you capture moments of fleeting beauty or facial expressions.

Super-high-speed shutter of 1/32000 sec.
This next-generation 1/32000 sec. super-high-speed Anti-Distortion Shutter works to minimize image distortion caused by the rolling shutter phenomenon. The extraordinarily fast shutter speed also allows you to produce photos with background defocusing using a large aperture setting even under extremely bright conditions at a maximum of EV 19.

Super slow motion at maximum of 40x
Using the mode dial to select HFR, it’s easy to create super slow motion movies containing split-second moments of action. Choose shooting frame rates of 960/1000fps, 480/500fps, or 240/250fps (NTSC/PAL), depending on which is most suitable for your needs. The end trigger mode also enables you to capture 2 or 4 seconds before the MOVIE button is pressed, letting you capture the decisive moment.

180˚ tiltable LCD screen for flexible composition
High-resolution 3.0-type screen with tilt capability is perfect for taking selfies and framing of otherwise impossible overhead or low-angle shots. You can use it in high/low shooting positions for greater flexibility in capturing creative compositions.

Connect to smartphones and tablets with one touch
Instantly transfer a photo or movie to your Android™ smartphone or tablet simply by touching it with the camera — using downloadable PlayMemories Mobile and built-in Wi-Fi and NFC™ (Near Field Communication). One touch can also activate Smart Remote Embedded, for remote control of the camera from a mobile device and movie recording start/stop.

Bright ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* F2.8 zoom lens
ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens provides a constant F2.8 large aperture throughout the 24–200 mm zooming range. Composed of 7 aspherical elements, this lens captures awesome close-ups and transforms movies and stills into works of art. Pro-style Manual Ring works as a zoom and aperture controller (with click sound on/off for silent operation), etc.

Direct 4K movie recording
The RX10 II can record high-precision 4K movie data directly on a memory card inserted into the body while suppressing moiré and jaggies. A front-end LSI that handles mass volume data through full-pixel readout at higher speed lets the camera suppress image distortion of moving subjects due to the rolling shutter phenomenon.

Super-high-speed shutter of 1/32000 sec.
This next-generation 1/32000 super-high-speed Anti-Distortion Shutter works to minimize image distortion caused by the rolling shutter phenomenon. The extraordinarily fast shutter speed also allows you to produce photos with background defocusing using a large aperture setting even under extremely bright conditions at a maximum of EV 19.

New back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor
The α7R II has the world’s first 35 mm full-frame CMOS image sensor with back-illuminated structure, which achieves approx. 42.4 effective megapixel resolution, widely expanded sensitivity range, and extra-low noise performance. It also has no optical low-pass filter that can compromise sharpness, so fine clarity and detail extend from edge to edge of every frame.

Sony Alpha a7RII 00

High-speed BIONZ XTM image processing engine
With detail-reproduction technology to capture the essence of realism, diffraction-reducing technology to maintain clarity even at smaller apertures, and area-specific noise reduction to reduce noise adaptively and reproduce greater detail, the BIONZ X image processing engine finely tunes the image sensor’s 42.4-megapixel data, for truer, clearer depiction.

5-axis image stabilization
This stabilization system is fine-tuned for high-resolution image sensors to compensate accurately for five types of camera shake that can compromise handheld shooting of the camera’s 42.4-megapixel images. Camera shake compensation is equivalent to using a 4.5-step faster shutter speed, allowing you to take advantage of a wider range of shutter speeds.

Fast Hybrid AF now covers more
The high-performance image sensor enhances Fast Hybrid AF, which far surpasses conventional AF in comprehensiveness, speed and response. The 399 focal plane phase-detection AF points cover 45% of the image area — the most coverage among digital still cameras with full-frame image sensors. 25-point contrast-detection AF coverage is also included.

Higher-resolution 4K movie recording
Footage from 4K movie recording featuring full pixel readout without pixel binning in the Super 35 mm format exhibits higher resolution and superior clarity than typical 4K movies. Also, the XAVC S format allows 4K recording at 100 Mbps maximum bit rate to capture fine details of movement in movies.

Durable reduced-vibration shutter
The new shutter’s braking mechanism cuts mechanical front/rear curtain vibration by about 50%. Also, use the electronic front curtain for even less vibration. This not only minimizes camera shake that can blur details in 42.4-megapixel images—it makes the shutter durable enough to have been tested to 500,000 cycles.

1200-zone Evaluative Metering
Ample data from 1200-zone metering and focal plane phase-detection AF points allows for more precise control of light volume from an external flash that complements ambient light. Choose Multi-segment, Center-weighted or Spot-metering mode.

XGA OLED Tru-FinderTM makes every view a vision
With the world’s highest magnification at 0.78x among digital still camera viewfinders, the XGA OLED Tru-Finder provides views of cutting-edge definition, contrast and depth throughout the entire display. ZEISS T* Coating ensures absolutely minimal reflection on the viewfinder, so the α7R II’s extraordinary 42.4-megapixel performance is apparent at all times.

S-Log2 Gamma setting
This proprietary Sony setting featured in professional camcorders creates a 1300% wider dynamic range for smooth gradation with reduced whiteout and blackout. Use color grading in post-production to make the most of low-noise images and super-rich detail to express footage in various ways. ISO 800 or higher is available when S-Log2 Gamma is selected.

Silent Shooting
Silent Shooting features an electronic shutter that causes no vibration, so you can shoot high-resolution images without camera shake. This mode also operates without a sound, so it’s very convenient for shooting without disrupting indoor performances and outdoor wildlife, and in all other situations where silence is essential.

Multi Frame NR (Noise Reduction)
This mode composites four shots to significantly suppress noise and raise sensitivity, letting you clearly capture dark scenes without a tripod or flash. Camera shake blur is also lowered while contrast and detail are raised.

Wi-Fi / NFC simplifies sharing
With Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Communication) built into the α7R II, you can instantly transfer a photo or MP4 movie to your Android™ smartphone or tablet simply by touching it with the camera, then easily upload the photo or movie to your favorite SNS (social networking site).

Electronic shutter can operate silently at 1/16000 of a second. The Summilux 28 mm f1.7 is an extremely sharp lens, just like any other legendary Leica lens. The lens can focus as close as 17cm. Leica Q iOS app adds extra benefit to the users. It allows to remotely control the camera and gives access to images.

Leica Q app has following functions:
– Camera live view
– Control capture settings
– Triggering the camera
– Start / Stop video recording
– View, download and share images directly from the camera
– Delete images

Leica Q app

To ensure that the decisive moment is never missed, the Leica Q full-frame compact camera has the fastest autofocus in its class and offers almost real-time precision focusing. At the same time, its newly developed image processor from the Leica Maestro II family, specially adapted for use in the Leica Q, processes the data from the sensor at an enormous speed and delivers up to ten frames per second at full resolution. To permit reliable control of subject composition at this speed, the Leica Q also features an integrated viewfinder with a resolution of 3.68 MP. Even the finest details of every exposure are displayed without any perceptible lag as soon as the camera is brought up to the user’s eye.

The digital frame selector of the Leica Q offers even more creative opportunities – alternative subject framing can be selected at the press of a button. In addition to the focal length of 28 mm at full resolution, this function also offers the equivalent of shooting with 35 and 50 mm lenses. The corresponding frames are displayed in the viewfinder at the press of a button. In the same way as with a rangefinder camera, photographers can still see what is going on outside the bright-line frame and can react much faster to changes in and around the subject. The selected framing is preserved in the JPEG image files, while the RAW files in DNG format record the entire field captured by the 28 mm lens.

The Leica Q also carries forward the Leica tradition of a reduction to the essentials in terms of its design. The seal of quality, ‘made in Germany’, guarantees that only the finest materials are employed in its construction to guarantee exceptional endurance. The top plate is machined from solid blocks of aluminium, the body is made of magnesium alloy, and all lettering and the markings on its setting dials are laser-engraved. The thumb rest on the back of the camera and the diamond pattern of its leathering ensure ideal grip and clearly illustrate that form and function still go hand in hand at Leica.

All functions of the Leica Q are clearly laid out and logically placed to guarantee perfect ergonomics. Its clear menu concept provides rapid access to all essential functions and also offers custom programming options: for instance, convenient definition of the autofocus limits by key control. Alternatively, the touchscreen can be used for focusing by eye, or the focusing point can be selected with a simple touch of a fingertip. In manual focusing mode, Live View offers two additional electronic focusing aids: Focus Peaking shows points in the subject that are sharply focused by coloured highlighting of edges, and Live View Zoom simultaneously lets the photographer check the sharply focused parts of the scene with up to sixfold magnification. With the Leica Q, photographers always have everything under perfect control, even without electronic aids. The two essential parameters for photography, the aperture and the shutter speed, can be read from the corresponding control elements and set – even when the camera is switched off.

Leica Q (typ 116) control 01

The unusually high speed and unmistakable bokeh of the lens of the Leica Q also reveal their unique qualities when shooting in video mode. Video recorded in full HD with the Leica Q is indistinguishable from professional movie footage. Depending on the scene, users can choose between 30 and 60 full frames per second for video recording in MP4 format. An integrated wind-noise filter guarantees crystal-clear sound.

The Leica Q features an integrated Wi-Fi module for wireless transmission of still pictures and video to other devices and remote control by WLAN from a smartphone or a tablet PC. The Leica Q app for these features can be downloaded free from the Leica website. In addition to remote release and display of the viewfinder image, the app also allows the setting of parameters like the aperture and shutter speed from the device employed.

Leica Q (typ 116) control 02

Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom®, a professional digital workflow solution for Apple Mac® OS X and Microsoft Windows®, is also included in the Leica Q package. This digital image processing software offers a comprehensive range of functions for the management, processing and presentation of digital image data. Leica Q customers can download the software free from the Leica website after registering their camera.
