Wacom Intuos Pen & Touch Review – Photo Editing Tablet for Photographers

Smyrna
We all love to take picture. A picture conveys the beautiful moment we enjoyed to our viewer. They can feel the same emotional feeling we felt even though they were not present there. So, presenting a picture the way we enjoyed it, is an art by itself.

In early days it was the darkroom where all the magic of printing a beautiful photograph used to take place. Without proper darkroom technique & tools it was impossible even for Ansel Adams to make his works shine even today. They were the Masters of Darkroom.

With the advance of technology darkroom has been replaced by Photoshop. Along with photoshop another commonly used tool is a tablet. A tablet has a touch sensitive surface and a pen. Now a days most of the digital artwork are done with tablet which is like a pen and paper for an artist.

Wacom Intuos touch & Pen Small

A tablet is extremely helpful for editing photo in photoshop. You can draw a hard or soft line just like you do with a pencil. It brings the comfort of using a colour pencil, pen or a brush to you computer. A computer mouse can never perform a precise task that you can do with a pen.

There are many big and expensive tablets with full of features, but for editing photos we don’t need all those features neither the size. Bigger is not always better. You need the right size for right job. The Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Small is considered as the most convenient tablet for editing photos in the market at present.

Size comparison iPad vs Wacom Intuos

First of all its relatively cheap for the quality & functionality it provides. The size is small enough to carry around along with the laptop. And for mac user there is an extra benefit – it acts like an Apple Magic Trackpad. Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch support multi-touch gesture, which helps a lot during editing e.g. Pinch to zoom in photoshop. The physical finish and built quality is very good.

The active surface of the Intuos Pen and Touch small is 6” x 3.7”. The size is perfect for photo editing. Anything bigger than this will put stretch in your hand. Because during editing you will be moving your hand from one end to the other. Four extra button in the tablet can be configured depending upon your need. The pen has two button which are also configurable. I use one button as right click & the other to increase brush size in photoshop.

Wacom Intuos touch & Pen Small

Editing photos with a tablet has a learning curve. Don’t expect it to work like your iPad or Samsung Galaxy series tablet. The experience resembles, when you first took a pencil and tried to draw something on paper at very early age. However it will not take long before you will start to feel the comfort of using a tablet. And soon you will not wish to edit any photo without it. Specially when you have to clean up many dirt from photos or do lots of precise selection. You can see from the clip below that how it helps in editing photo.

Over the time the nib of pen wears out. Wacom is generous enough to include three extra nib with the Intuos. They are placed at the back of the tablet hidden inside the cover. Normally the tablet is connected by USB cable to the computer . But it’s possible to make it wireless. You need to get the add-on kit Wireless Accessory Kit – ACK40401, which includes Wireless module, wireless receiver & a rechargeable battery.

Macro Photography Beginners Guide

Macro Photography Beginners GuideCamera – Nikon D700; Lens – AFD Nikkor 60/2.8D; ISO – 800; Shutter – 1/640; Aperture – 11

In general taking close up photo of an object is regarded as Macro Photography. One has to understand many technical terms, calculation and use of specialized software if you want to grab the whole world of macro. But for most of us to take decent Macro Photo we don’t need that much knowledge.

Take a simple measuring ruler. Look at the side that is marked with centimeter (cm). Now look through your camera, try to take a sharp picture of the ruler as close as possible. Most of the camera that can take an image of 14.4cm or less is termed as macro by manufacturers. With this type of camera or lens you can take beautiful close up pictures of flower, butterfly or any other object. If that much all you need then you already have the camera you want.

LeafCamera – Nikon D700; Lens – AFD Nikkor 60/2.8D; ISO – 800; Shutter – 1/250; Aperture – 5

Understanding Magnification ratio

Ruler - 144 mmFig – Ruler – 144 mm

Ruler - 36mmFig – Ruler – 36mm

Magnification Ratio 1:1Fig – Magnification Ratio 1:1

Magnification Ratio 1:4Fig – Magnification Ratio 1:4

Magnification Ratio 2:1Fig – Magnification Ratio 2:1

If you want more close up photos then take a look at your ruler once again. Find out the marking that measures 3.6cm (that is 36mm). 36mm is the length of a single frame of film. Digital cameras have sensors instead of film. Now take a photo of the ruler that covers only 36mm. This photo covers an area that equals the size of the sensor (36mm). This is called Life size or 1:1 (Size of sensor : Size of object). For most of the work we don’t need anything more than 1:1. In the previous image we actually compressed an area of 14.4cm into the sensor, which is 3.6cm long (Sensor 3.6cm : Ruler 14.4cm = 1:4). So the ratio was roughly 1:4.

Equipment

Now that we have learned about the magnification ratio, lets find out what equipment we need to achieve it. I’ll go from cheap to expensive. They all have their pros and cons. You should choose gear depending on your need and budget.

**I’m not going to explain about some equipment you will commonly find in other places e.g. Reversing ring, Manual Extension tube. Because from years of experience I know you will be struggling to get proper image using those things. That is a waste of time and money.**

A. Close up Filter
A close up filter is like a magnifying glass. You can fit it infront of your existing camera lens. They come in different magnifying power. Marked as +1, +2, +4. With a higher number you will get higher magnification. You can use them individually or in combination.

Hoya Close up filterHoya Close up filter

Pros
– They are cheap.
– Easy to use.

Cons
– Image quality is average. There is distortion at the corners of an image.

Recommended use
1. If you are a beginner in macro photography.
2. If you want to take occasional close up picture.
3. If you want to make creative use of distortion that is produced by close up filters.

Before you purchase
1. Check your filter diameter (marked at the front your lens or lens cap e.g. 52mm)
2. The magnification power of the filter e.g. +1, +2, +4
3. You can buy then in set (+1, +2, +4) or as Single piece.
4. A multicoated lens will give better result.

B. Auto Focus Extension tube
An extension tube is a hollow tube and has no glass in it. It’s fitted in between your DSLR camera & lens. By increasing the distance between lens and camera it magnifies the image. The more the distance the higher the magnification. An Auto Focus Extension Tube maintains all the electronic communication between your camera and lens, so you will not loose any functionality. Extension tubes come in different lengths e.g. 12mm, 20mm, 36mm. They are sold in a set of three. You can use them separately or in combination.

Auto Focus Extension Tube

AF Extension TubeFig – AF Extension Tube

***You may have to manually focus your subject because a lot of time autofocus will not work if you use long extension tube.

A general rule about extension tube
– If you attach 50mm extension tube with a 50mm Normal lens you will get 1:1 magnification.
– If you attach 100mm extension tube with a 50mm Normal lens you will get 2:1 magnification.
– If you still need more magnification upto 6:1 read this article.

Pros
– Easy to use.
– Doesn’t reduce image quality.
– Can be used with Tele lens for shooting butterfly from a distance.
– It you already have a macro lens it will increase the magnification power.

Cons
– It reduces amount of light reaching the camera sensor.

Recommend use
1. I recommend Extension tube as the first step for serious macro photography.
2. Love to shoot butterfly or dragonfly a lot.

Before you purchase
1. Make sure you purchase Auto Focus Extension tube not Manual version.
2. Out of many brands Kenko has very good built and highly recommended.

C. Micro Lens

Theses are special purpose lenses. A Micro lens can take photos at 1:1 or 1:2 magnification. They are specifically designed to correct the distortion of an image at close range. You will get very sharp image from center of the frame to extreme corners. They are frequently used for copying document, product photography, medical photography and in many other field. Micro lenses come in different focal length.

Construction of Micro lens vs Regular lensConstruction of Micro lens vs Regular lens

Some uses of different focal length are as follows ~
–  60mm Micro lens = 7 inch working distance (useful for non-moving object & copying purpose)
– 100mm Micro lens = 12 inch working distance (useful for moving object as well as portrait photography)
– 200mm micro lens = 19 inch working distance (useful for close up picture of moving subject e.g. butterfly, humming bird)
(**Working Distance – It is the distance between camera lens and the object we are photographing.**)

AF Nikkor 60mm / 2.8DAF Nikkor 60mm / 2.8D

Pros
– Excellent image quality.
– Can be used for General photography.

Cons
– Expensive.

Recommended use
1. For serious macro photography.
2. Medical & product photography.
3. Copying documentation.

Before you purchase
– Decide what subject you are going to photograph most.
– Now look which micro lens has the right working distance for that purpose.

My Macro Setup

I am using AF Nikkor 60mm / 2.8D lens for last 12 years. Reason for choosing this lens ~
– It’s a very sharp macro lens
– It serves me as a normal lens which is good for copying object.
– If I need higher magnification beyond 1:1, I attach extension tube with it. (magnification upto 6:1 – read here).
– I can use it as an portrait lens with a Crop body DSLR camera.
– If I’m going to take close photos of butterfly I use extension tube with Tele zoom lens (e.g. 70-300mm lens), which gives me enough working distance.

Common Problems in Macro Photography

Blurry & Unsharp photograph

Any of the following reason can result in a blurry picture

1. The Subject moved (e.g. – in windy day you are photographing a flower)
Solution – Try to fix the subject if possible. (e.g. wait for the wind to calm down)
2. The Photographer moved. You will find a lot of time while taking a close up photo our body keeps moving slightly forward &  backward, as a result we may get an out of focus image.
Solution – Use a Tripod. It’s a very good practice to always use a tripod.
3. Focusing error.
Solution – Recheck focus before shooting. If necessary do focus manually.
4. Only center area is sharp, corners unsharp.
Solution – Use the macro mode in your camera or manually use higher aperture number (e.g. f/16 in your camera). It will make corner area sharp.

Features

Sigma announces the new 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens The 24mm F1.4 Art wide angle lens is designed for full-frame DSLRs, and when used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, it effectively becomes a 38mm. The lens is ideal for capturing a variety of photography subjects, including cityscapes, mountain ranges, astrophotography and weddings and is great for videography work as well. The 24mm excels at indoor photography in low illumination thanks to the combination of exceptional focal plane sharpness, and gorgeous bokeh rendered by nine rounded aperture blades. The lens achieves a maximum magnification of 1:5.3 with a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches. The 24mm incorporates both “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass and Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass in a design of 15 elements in 11 groups to minimize chromatic aberration of magnification especially in the edge of the image field. The optimized power layout includes aspherical elements that are positioned in the rear of the lens for improved wide open performance. This helps to ensure minimal distortion through the correction of axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare. The new lens element design also delivers excellent peripheral brightness.

Other updates to this lens include a new full-time manual focusing mechanism that switches to manual focusing, simply by rotating the focus ring, even when AF is being used, first introduced on the 50mm Art. This allows the photographer to make focus adjustments quickly and easily. As with all new lenses under the Global Vision categories, every 24mm will be tested using Sigma’s own MTF measuring system, “A1,” in the company’s factory in Japan.

Other lenses in the Art line include 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, 30mm F1.4 DC HSM, 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM, 50mm F1.4 DG HSM, 19mm F2.8 DN, 30mm F2.8 DN and 60mm F2.8 DN.

The 24mm F1.4 is compatible with Sigma’s USB dock, allowing photographers to update the lens’ firmware and change focus parameters as well as manual focus over-ride using Sigma’s Optimization Pro software. It is also compatible with Sigma’s Mount Conversion Service.

Nikon D810A vs Nikon D810

The Nikon D810A has been designed for Astrophotography. Thus its not Recommended for General Purpose Photography. The regular DSLR cameras are designed to block IR (infra red) ray, since it cause red cast in an image. You will see these unusual red cast if you use a High density ND filter for long exposure. Nikon D810A uses a IR cut filter but allows the transmission of 656 nm range for capturing photos of distant galaxies as a result it will create more reddish picture. You can see the reddish cast in the comparison of images taken with with D810A & D810 below.

IR Cut Filter The D810A employs an optical IR cut filter with specific transmission characteristics (characteristics in the 656nm range), enabling the capture of nebulae and distant galaxies that emit H-alpha wavelength in red, which can be difficult to capture with an ordinary digital SLR camera. Optimized for General Photography applications
ISO Sensitivity Range 200 to 12,800 Lo1 (ISO 32) to Hi2 (ISO 51,200) Optimized for General Photography applications
White Balance Although white balance has been designed and adjusted to retain the same performance as that of the D810, color reproduction might be different for an image taken under fluorescent light or difficult scenes due to the increased IR transmission characteristics of the D810A. The resulting image may be much more reddish than the actual color. Because an appropriate color reproduction cannot be obtained, D810A is not recommended for general photography Optimized for General Photography applications

The D810A Provides New Features Specifically for Astrophotography

MELVILLE, NY – Today, Nikon Inc. announced the new D810A, a DSLR optimized for astrophotography and other scientific applications. By modifying the infrared cut filter for the hydrogen alpha wavelength, Nikon has created a camera that gives photographers the ability to capture the diffuse nebulae in the night sky and to create colorful, breathtaking celestial images. The D810A shares its architecture with the powerful and professional high-resolution Nikon D810 DSLR and includes other new features designed uniquely to help capture the cosmos, letting users achieve sharp and vibrant images of the universe.“The Nikon D810A is engineered exclusively to meet the unique demands of professional and hobbyist astrophotographers,” said Masahiro Horie, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc. “The camera’s distinctive feature set and powerful imaging capabilities make it an appealing option for those who are ready to discover the fantastic cosmic features that are hidden among the stars.”

I AM Star Struck: DSLR Optimized for AstrophotographyThe Nikon D810A provides hobbyists as well as professional stargazers with a powerful combination of impressive resolution and features specifically created for astrophotography and scientific applications. The infrared (IR) cut filter has been optimized to allow transmission of the hydrogen alpha spectral line, resulting in four times greater sensitivity of the 656nm wavelength. The resulting images capture the brilliant red hues of diffuse nebulae and constellations in striking detail and fidelity. While not recommended for general photography, the D810A is an excellent option for photographing the universe with either NIKKOR lenses or third-party adaptors for telescopes. In addition to the optimized IR cut filter, the D810A adds other features that are useful for astrophotography applications. A new Long Exposure Manual Mode is implemented, giving users the ability to set shutter speeds from 4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300, 600 or 900 seconds (15 minutes), as well as Bulb and Time settings. Building upon the D810’s excellent low-light capabilities, the ISO range has been optimized from 200 to 12,800 (Hi-2 51,200), for maximum sensitivity with the optimal signal to noise ratio. The D810A also adds a new Virtual Exposure Preview Mode, which displays an estimated preview image and is available when shooting at shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds when in Live View. The brightened preview image represents a 30 second exposure, simplifying focusing and composition.

The Best of Both WorldsThe Nikon D810A is based off of the Nikon D810 architecture and retains all of the features that make it a powerful tool for creating images. Users will be able to produce photos of the heavens in super high resolution thanks to the 36.3-megapixel CMOS sensor. The image sensor works in tandem with Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED 4 Image processing engine to deliver images with low noise and a dynamic range that is nothing short of stellar. The D810A also features an Electronic Front Curtain Shutter Mode, letting the electronic front curtain act as a shutter when in live view or first composing through the optical viewfinder in mirror-up mode. This feature minimizes vibrations to attain maximum sharpness when shooting subjects at very slow shutter speeds. The camera also features a durable magnesium alloy body that is sealed against dirt and moisture, giving users peace of mind when getting away from the city lights means a trek off of the beaten path. The Nikon D810A is compatible with a wide range of high quality NIKKOR lenses and accessories, including wireless infrared remotes, cable releases and the new WR-1 wireless remote system. Additionally, Nikon’s Capture NX-D software is available as a free download, and it will feature a new option for Astro Noise Reduction for use with D810A image files.

A FOCUS ON STABILITY: OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 Mark II® CAPTURES STUNNING MOVIES FROM THE PALM OF YOUR HAND

Industry-Leading 5-Axis Image Stabilization, Variable-Angle LCD, Advanced Video Features and 40-Megapixel High-Res Shot in a Compact Interchangeable-Lens Camera

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., February 5, 2015 — Olympus introduces an exceptional high-resolution still and advanced motion picture hybrid with the new OM-D E-M5 Mark II®. This advanced interchangeable-lens camera features a compact dustproof, splashproof body, with a familiar, premium design. Packed with 5-axis image stabilization, a 40-megapixel high-resolution shot mode, sophisticated, stunning HD video, integrated Wi-Fi® and a variable-angle 3-inch touchscreen, the OM-D E-M5 Mark II makes it easy to get the shot you need, every time. The easy-to-use 2.36 million dot, super-large, high-definition electronic viewfinder has a field of view of 100%, and a viewfinder magnification of 1.48x. The camera is equipped with Adaptive Brightness Technology, which automatically adjusts the backlight brightness in accordance with environmental lighting. The new LV Boost II*1 is convenient for shooting stars, and Creative Control provides complete freedom of control over color, tone, focus, and aspect ratio.

Exceptional Performance

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II pairs a redesigned16-megapixel Live-MOS Micro Four Thirds® sensor with the Olympus TruePic™ VII processor, enabling brilliant image quality in bright and low-light conditions alike. The 1/8000 mechanical shutter allows photographers to shoot using a large aperture for maximum bokeh, even in bright, daylight conditions. Users can capture RAW images at up to 10 fps with S-AF, or 5 fps with C-AF tracking enabled. An Anti-shock mode utilizes electronic first-curtain shutter to reduce shutter shock during sequential shooting, and a new Silent mode enables a full-time 1/16000 second electronic shutter, eliminating the mechanical shutter noise entirely for absolutely silent shooting. The 81-point Fast AF provides an expanded focus area, with unparalleled speed, while Small Target AF allows users to focus on small areas across the entire frame.

World’s Most Sophisticated Image Stabilization

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II’s in-body 5-axis VCM image stabilization system offers unprecedented performance. The camera’s 16-megapixel sensor shifts horizontally, vertically and on the X (pitch), Y (yaw) and Z (roll) axes in order to provide 5.0 EV steps of compensation performance. The OM-D E-M5 Mark II can capture sharp images at shutter speeds as low as 1/4-second without the use of a tripod. Sensor shift on the X and Y axes can also assist when photographing close-up subjects. Image stabilization extends to the 3-inch, 1.04M-dot rear vari-angle touchscreen and the 2.36M-dot electronic viewfinder (1.48x magnification), providing a full image stabilization preview when the shutter button is pressed halfway.

40-Megpixel High-Resolution Shot

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II takes high-resolution imaging to a whole new level. In addition to the exceptional 16-megapixel stills you’ve come to expect from OM-D, the E-M5 Mark II captures 40-megapixel images*2 using an innovative pixel-shift technique that is facilitated by the voice-coil motor IS unit. The 40-Megapixel High-Res Shot mode captures eight sequential images, moving the sensor by 0.5-pixel steps between each shot. Then, the E-M5 Mark II compiles those images to produce a super-high resolution shot that rivals those captured with a 40-megapixel full-frame camera.

A tripod and a high-resolution M.ZUIKO® DIGITAL PRO or M.ZUIKO Premium lens are recommended to use the 40-Megapixel High-Res Shot mode, which captures eight shots over a period of one second1. Another two seconds are required to compile the final image. Images can be captured at up to f/8 with a shutter speed of up to eight seconds and a sensitivity of up to ISO 1600. When shooting in RAW+JPEG mode, the camera will save a 40M JPEG file, a 64M RAW (ORF) file and a 16M RAW (ORI) file. 64M RAW images may be processed using Photoshop CS4 and later with a required plug-in.

OM-D Movie

The OM-D E-M5 Mark II’s advanced video features enable photographers to capture cinema-quality movies from the palm of their hand. The camera’s 5-axis image stabilization compensates for even the slightest movement, allowing the camera to capture stable footage without the use of a sophisticated and expensive stabilization rig, or even a tripod, letting users shoot in environments where adding heavy equipment may not be practical.  The mechanical IS unit can also work in concert with Electronic Stabilization if desired.

The OM-D E-M5 Mark II captures 1080p video at up to a 60p frame rate with up to 77 Mbps high bit-rate recording possible at the 30p setting. Additionally, the OM-D E-M5 Mark II supports 50p, 30p (29.97p), 25p and 24p (23.98p) frame rates, making it easy to blend footage captured using other camera systems. An integrated microphone jack supports external audio input, while a headphone jack positioned in the HLD-8G External Grip enables real-time audio monitoring. Focus Peaking with four color choices (red, yellow, black and white) as well as three selectable intensities for optimal manual focus results. Settings can be adjusted while recording using the 3-inch touchscreen, including AF-point selection, exposure, electronic zoom and Movie Tele-converter, microphone sensitivity, headphone volume and art effects. Additionally, OM-D Movie supports time code settings and connection to an external HDMI® monitor during recording. You can also add an Olympus PCM recorder for high-quality audio capture.

Photographers can take advantage of the OM-D’s popular Art Filters while in Movie Capture mode. Users can select from Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale and Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Cross Process, Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone, Key Line and Watercolor while capturing video. A Movie Tele-converter lets users touch an area on the screen to enlarge it without losing image quality, while the Clips tool enables short clip capture, allowing users to combine footage and effects directly on the camera for instant sharing.

Ultimate Connectivity
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II includes integrated Wi-Fi, enabling remote shooting, geotagging and easy image sharing using the Olympus Image Share app on an Android® or iOS® smartphone or tablet. Photographers can use the Olympus Image Share app to apply Art Filters. Users can also start and stop movie recording using a wirelessly connected smartphone, or with the RM-UC1 Remote Cable Release. Studio photographers can take advantage of Olympus Capture support, enabling complete control of the OM-D E-M5 Mark II from a connected Mac® or PC.

Portability and Build
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II features a dustproof, splashproof body, that, when properly sealed and paired with select M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses, can even be used in the rain. Olympus’ renowned Supersonic Wave Filter technology uses super high speed frequency movement to “shake” any dust or debris off the sensor, eliminating dust marks that irreparably spoil images. Two body colors are available: a luxurious black with texture casting, and a bright, gorgeous silver. The camera includes machined metal dials, an extended grip and a lowered center of gravity that makes the OM-D E-M5 Mark II comfortable to hold in a variety of positions. The camera (body only) weighs just 417 grams, or 14.7 ounces, making it one of the lightest models in its class.

Accessories
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II includes a dustproof and splashproof bundled flash, the FL-LM3, with Guide Number 9 (at ISO 100) and tilt and swivel positioning, enabling users to light subjects directly or by bouncing the flash off of a ceiling or wall.

The HLD-8 is a dustproof and splashproof power battery holder for exclusive use with the OM-D E-M5 Mark II, which enhances both the camera grip and power supply. The HLD-8G Non-powered Grip pairs a substantial camera grip with a headphone jack for monitoring audio during video capture, and an HLD-6P Power Grip, which can attach directly to the camera or to the HLD-8G, provides additional battery power for extended shoots. Because the grip (HLD-8G) and battery holder (HLD-6P) can be separated, the grip can be used alone when necessary. The HLD-6P battery holder is the same as the HLD-6 which was previously designed for the OM-D E-M5. The ECG-2 Metal External Grip can be attached to and removed from a tripod easily, and includes a battery pass-through for changing batteries without removing the grip.

An EE-1 External Dot Sight, which is compatible with any camera with a hot shoe, makes it easier to frame subjects during super-telephoto shooting An EP-16 Large Eyecup is also available, which blocks sunlight, making the electronic viewfinder easier to use. A redesigned version of the OM-D E-M5’s popular full-cover case, which includes a body cover and removable front cover, is also available as the CS-46 FBC Leather Cover and Body Jacket. The PT-EP13 Dedicated Underwater Case can be used at depths of up to 45 meters, and is designed specifically for the OM-D E-M5 Mark II. The case is equipped with a pick-up viewfinder and can be used with the cameras bundled FL-LM3 flash, along with a variety of lenses.

Olympus’ Improved M.ZUIKO Interchangeable Lens Brings Enhanced Optical and All-Weather Performance for Outstanding Results

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., February 5, 2015– Olympus continues to grow its interchangeable-lens lineup with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II (28-300mm, 35mm equivalent) lens. With 10.7x magnification, this versatile Micro Four Thirds® lens features incredible zoom capabilities in a compact, lightweight body. A dustproof, splashproof construction makes this lens durable enough to withstand the toughest shooting conditions when paired with the Olympus OM-D E-M1® or OM-D E-M5 Mark II®. With the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II included, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL dustproof, splashproof lens lineup now offers five exceptional lenses for all of your professional shooting needs.

An improvement upon the M.Zuiko 14-150mm f4.0-5.6, released in June 2010, this new lens also features ZERO (ZUIKO Extra-low Reflection Optical) Coating on the surface of the lens to eliminate scratches as well as reduce ghosting and lens flare, even in very bright situations, for the clearest images.

Covering focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II is perfect for capturing any type of scene, from portraiture to travel photography featuring a wide variety of subjects. The lens can capture subjects at all zoom ranges from a closest shooting distance of 20 inches (approx. 13 inches from the end of the lens). A maximum shooting magnification `of 0.22x (35mm equivalent: 0.44x) is possible with close-up photography.

Smooth Controls
The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II features an internal focusing system utilizing an MSC mechanism making high-speed, silent autofocus possible for seamless still-image and movie capture. The manual focusing mechanism is designed to offer a responsive feel, with the perfect amount of resistance to enable smooth, precise operation. With silent autofocus operation, nature photographers can get the shot they need without disturbing wildlife, while all photographers will benefit from clear audio while capturing video.

Optical Protection
Olympus has also developed a professional-grade lens filter for the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II Lens. The PRF-D58 PRO is a lightweight, thin protective filter, created with double-sided, multi-coating and blackened glass edges to suppress ghosting and lens flare, for the clearest shots. The pouch-style LSC-0914 Lens Case is designed with a three-layer construction to offer additional protection.
