Launched in September 2014, Digital Photo Professional 4 was Canon’s first sweeping change to its popular RAW processing software since its original launch. The latest version of DPP – version 4.1.50 – is a response to feedback from owners of older full-frame and APS-C cameras who are looking for the very latest RAW workflow solution.
Additionally, DPP 4.1.50 supports the recently launched EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lenses, the profiles for which are now available for use with the Lens Correction function.
Commenting on the update, Mike Owen, European Professional Imaging Communications Manager, Professional Imaging Department, Canon Europe, said: “DPP 4.0 has proved incredibly popular with our customers and this latest update further extends its appeal to a wider range of users, such as those using the highly successful EOS 5D Mark II. Canon remains firmly committed to offering a complete range of products to photographers and increasingly its software solutions are playing a vital role in delivering the ultimate in image quality from capture to output.”

Overview
New Super-Telephoto Zoom Lens Delivers an Enhanced IS System Providing Four Shutter Speed Steps of Correction, a Rotation-Type Zoom Ring, and New Optical Element Formula to Help Maximize Image Quality. The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM lens, a second generation compact super-telephoto zoom lens featuring significant advancements in optical quality, image stabilization performance up-to-four steps, and rotating-zoom-ring design. This new L-series super- telephoto zoom lens features Canon L-series weather resistance and rugged magnesium housing to meet the needs of wildlife and sports photographers or photojournalists working out in the elements. Fully compatible with all EOS cameras, the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM features a completely redesigned optical formula containing one Fluorite and one Super UD lens element ─ a combination unique to lenses in this focal range ─ to help deliver sharp images with high resolution and contrast. This combination of elements helps thoroughly suppress chromatic aberration throughout the entire zoom range.
For photographers who want to work as closely as possible to their subjects, the minimum focusing distance of the lens has been reduced to just 3.2 ft. (0.98m), resulting in maximum magnification of 0.31x. The original EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM was well known for its push-pull zoom adjustment, but the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM uses a rotation-type zoom ring similar to the one found on the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens that allows for more precise adjustments, easier handling, and consistently excellent weight balance during handheld photography. In addition, the lens features an improved zoom torque adjustment ring that allows for the easy setting of zoom tension based on personal shooting preferences. The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM also features an inner focusing system, a powerful yet quiet Ring USM, a high-speed CPU and optimized auto focus (AF) algorithms for fast and accurate autofocusing in various shooting situations.
The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM features three Image Stabilization (IS) modes ─ standard, panning, and during exposure only. Each IS mode is individually engineered to help provide outstanding results in a wide variety of shooting situations, and all serve to satisfy the personal preferences of photographers based on the type of IS they desire. The optical IS provides up to four shutter speed steps of correction, increased from 1.5 steps in the previous model*. In addition, the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM features Canon’s newly developed Air Sphere Coating (ASC) which helps to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting significantly, as well as a 9-bladed circular aperture Electro-Magnetic Diaphragm that helps to enhance beautiful, softly blurred backgrounds.
As with all L-series lenses, the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM is highly resistant to dust and water, with excellent durability in even harsh conditions, ideal for wildlife photographers even in rainforest environments, or sports photographers on the sideline grabbing action shots of the big game. Fluorine coating on the front and rear surfaces of the lens can repel dust particles and water droplets. It also makes smears and fingerprints easy to remove without the use of lens cleaning fluid. Included with the lens is the new ET-83D lens hood, that features a cleverly placed and convenient side window allowing the user to easily adjust specialty filters while the lens hood remains in place. In addition, the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II USM is equipped with a newly designed detachable tripod mount which can be removed to reduce weight during handheld operation. Best prime & Zoom lenses for the Nikon D810
DxO Mark Has updated the list of best prime & zoom lenses for the new Nikon D810 (Amazon | Adorama | B&H). Below are the complete list of lenses. Its a long list but worth checking.
According to DxO
“There can be little doubt that the Nikon D810 is capable of delivering exceptionally sharp and highly detailed images with the very best lenses, but the results are not dissimilar to the Nikon D800E. While some of the best scores in the lab were achieved using the D800E(and the Zeiss Otus models) the small difference in DxOMark rating is insignificant between the two camera models. While that’s perhaps somewhat unexpected, there are still plenty of improvements operationally to make the Nikon D810 arguably the most compelling 35mm model currently available for studio and location work.”

Three Must Have Lenses In Your Camera Bag – To Cover The Most Situations
Most photographers end up using pretty much three lenses, a wide-angle lens; a 50mm normal; and a sport telephoto. Each lenses has different perspective and photographers used them to give a very different look and feel to their images. Together they also cover wide range of situations we encounter everyday.
Below are the list of lenses mentioned here in the above video. For reference we have included Nikon & Canon equivalent. Pick any combination according to your budget. They all are capable of delivering professional quality images. Read more here how to choose a lens?

Sony, Fuji, Pentax, and Olympus also offer similar lens range. In addition, there are some high quality third party lens makers like Tamron and Sigma. Few of our trusted buying options are Amazon, Adorama, B&H and DigitalRev.
How You Know You’re a Photographer!

A Guest Post By: Cole Dunn
Being a photographer is more than just a hobby or career choice – it’s life; something you feel you literally could not live without. Every instant of your waking moment, you feel the dire need to pull your camera out and take a picture of the beauty of your surroundings. As a result, I have conducted a list of 8 ways you know when you’re a photographer.
1. You get upset when you don’t have your camera on you
I feel as though every photographer knows this feeling. For instance: maybe you decide to go for a walk down to the beach, and accidently leave your camera sitting on the kitchen bench. When you go to take a picture, your heart drops, and the only reason you don’t know you’re missing your camera until you get to the beach is because you’re so used to it being in your hands, that it’s almost second nature. Your body has adapted to your photography addiction, and doesn’t recognize when something is drastically wrong. Am I right?
2. Lighting > Equipment
At some stage in a photographer’s life, there comes to a point that having the best equipment just doesn’t cut it when taking photographs. You begin to realize that there’s more to a good photo than the equipment (although is still one of my many pleasures), such as (and most importantly) the lighting of the photograph. Unfortunately, there is no tool that can give you the exact lighting of a photo (arguably) other than taking a photo at the right time, at the right angle, and using the lighting of the situation to your advantage.

3. You can make crap look good
Okay, so this one might be stretching it, if we’re taking the point literally. I mean, maybe you can turn a piece of dog poo into art, but that’s not entirely the point I’m trying to make. Basically, as a photographer, you see potential photographs that most people couldn’t imagine being a photograph. Maybe it’s a picture of a trash can, or a brick wall… whatever it is, you know that as a photographer, you begin to think outside the box; you begin to take pictures, and develop a sense of good what makes good photographs, regardless of what people may think.
4. Your camera battery runs out before any other gadget
Photographers are known best for having their cameras with them at all times. Regardless of the event, the camera will be glued to the photographers hand for that perfect moment to take a quick photo. However, unfortunately this comes with negative repercussions, which is the fact that the camera batteries do not last a lifetime. Unfortunately, photographers will face the constant annoyance of having their camera battery due before their phone battery. For most ‘normal’ people, this is simply unfathomable. For photographers, this is the harsh reality of being addicted to using a camera.

5. Camera shutter is pleasurable
As a photographer, there is nothing I love more than the sound of a camera shutter. It’s like music to my ears, and I know many people who can relate. For some, the sound of birds is pleasurable, for others, it’s math equations (is that even a thing?). But for photographers, it’s the sound of the camera shutter, knowing that a high quality photograph will be as a result of the shutter. Surely there are more of us out there?!
6. You get annoyed at people who buy high, top of the range cameras only to take selfies
When you take photography seriously, just like any other form of art, nothing is worse than people who purchase the latest and the greatest cameras only to take photos of themselves. Okay, in some cases, it can be a justified purchase. Maybe you’re a model? But if you’re uploading it to Facebook for only your friends and family to see, then maybe you can understand why photographers get irritated. You see, photographers (in most cases) very rarely take photos of themselves. Instead, they’re exploring the beauty of the world around them – too much to worry about themselves.

7. You are personally offended when someone makes a harsh comment on your camera
“Your camera looks too big”, for example, is just unnecessary criticism. What do you want me to do about the size of my camera? Do you think I didn’t notice? People don’t seem to understand that if you insult the camera, then you might as well insult the camera owner. At least we then have a reason to get offended, right? I mean, how would you feel if someone came up to you and said you had a big nose, for example? Is that more of a justified reason to act offended? If you’re a photographer, then the answer is no.
8. Travelling is more about photography than it is relaxing
Finally, we have come to my favorite point of all: travelling. For most people, travelling is more about relaxing – building strong memories engraved in the mind to last a lifetime. As a photographer, we want much more than that. We want to be reminded of our travelling experiences with physical memories; photographs of our experiences. Why have a slice of cake when you can have the whole thing? That’s not to say that photographers don’t know how to relax, but we would rather capture the surroundings of the location than to waste our time sleeping on the beach.
Conclusion If you can relate to these, then maybe you’re more of a photographer than you thought! Hats off to you – let’s hope there are more of us out there.
