Free download through November 3, exclusively in the Mac App Store

October 30, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Perspective for Mac OS X, its exclusive application designed to correct perspective and horizon problems. Thanks to its system of applying anchor points directly on images, DxO Perspective offers a simple and innovative solution that puts its powerful geometric corrections into the hands of all photographers, even beginners. Indispensable for architectural and landscape photography!

DxO Perspective is available exclusively in the Mac App Store as a free download through November 3, 2013.

Easy yet powerful perspective corrections

In architectural or urban photography, depending on the position of the photographer with respect to the scene, buildings? vertical and horizontal lines can lose their parallelism. With DxO Perspective, making buildings plumb again has never been easier: users simply place the anchor points directly on the image along the lines they want to correct, and unnatural façades instantly return to their original appearance.

DxO Perspective corrects all kinds of perspective problems, even the most complex. Using its Rectangle tool, when a photo contains two perspective flaws, DxO Perspective?s Rectangle tool immediately reestablishes a full-frontal view of the object ? essential when shooting a photo of a poster or painting! In 8-point correction mode, DxO Perspective handles even more complex perspectives: the independent placing of horizontal and vertical guidelines provides highly precise corrections on multiple planes.

With just one line, DxO Perspective also restores balance and authenticity to landscape photos by perfectly straightening a slanted horizon.

Full-frame photos

Regardless of the corrections applied, DxO Perspective keeps photos full-frame, thanks to its automatic cropping feature that optimizes the visible field. Users can also customize the framing to highlight a particular element. A composition grid facilitates precise adjustments.

Advanced settings

Serious photographers can also adjust the intensity of the correction and the horizontal/vertical ratio according to their own tastes.

Press Release:

OLYMPUS STYLUS 1 UNIFIES DSLR PERFORMANCE, LENS POWER AND MAXIMUM PORTABILITY IN ONE COMPACT PACKAGE

The First Olympus Fusion of Ultimate Image Quality, High-Powered i.ZUIKO® DIGITAL Lens, and Built-In EVF

CENTER VALLEY, PA., October 29, 2013 – Olympus has redefined the enthusiast compact camera by uniting many of the best features found across its camera lineup in the new STYLUS. Designed for semi-pro shooters who demand optical brilliance, DSLR operation, convenience and portability, this one-size-fits-all package has head-turning, OM-inspired looks as well as premium imaging performance.

The STYLUS 1 includes an i.ZUIKO lens that incorporates the outstanding optical quality of the Olympus ZUIKO interchangeable lenses. At its heart is a large 1/1.7-inch BSI CMOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor along with additional features, including the built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) from the award-winning Olympus OM-D E-M5® and Wi-Fi for shooting and sharing anywhere. Whether you want the latest and greatest high-tech tool, or if you simply prefer something that is lightweight and easy to take when you are on the go, there is truly something for everyone.

One Great Lens
The newly developed, ultra-slim 10.7x (28–300mm*) high-power i.ZUIKO lens features constant f2.8 brightness across the zoom range and is versatile enough to capture wide to telephoto shots and produce pro-quality stills with beautiful, defocused backgrounds and crisp images even when telephoto shooting in low light. The large diameter lens incorporates a powerful, built-in VCM image stabilization mechanism that virtually eliminates camera shake and blur. Its lens can also capture stunning macro shots from 2 inches away. When the lens is not in use, it retracts fully into the camera body (behind a removable automatic lens cap), so the STYLUS 1 fits easily into a coat pocket.

One Great Sensor
Olympus designed the new lens to work seamlessly with its 12.0 megapixel 1/1.7-inch high-sensitivity backlit CMOS sensor and TruePicVI image processor, the same processor used in the Olympus OM-D E-M5, for fast recovery time and shutter speed to capture images with rich details and low noise. Images come through with true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal expression. The STYLUS 1 also inherits FAST TOUCH AF system from the Olympus PEN® series for near-instant, precision focusing via the tilt-able LCD touchscreen monitor.

One Great Electronic Viewfinder
The STYLUS 1 is the first Olympus enthusiast, premium compact camera equipped with a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF). The 1.44 million dot resolution LCD EVF has a 1.15x viewfinder magnification rate (equivalent to 0.58x of 35mm film camera) and 100 percent field of view — just like a DSLR — so users can easily compose their subjects directly with clear visibility from the center to the edges. The eye sensor automatically switches the live view display from the high-resolution 3.0-inch, 1.04 million dot resolution tilt-able LCD touchscreen monitor to the EVF in no time as the camera approaches the user’s eye. A variety of information is displayed in an easy-to-view layout on the EVF screen, including variables such as exposure and color.

Operability for all Shooting Styles
The STYLUS 1 incorporates an ideal blend of effective, hands-on controls, including a hybrid control ring similar to the one found on the Olympus STYLUS XZ-2 iHS. The control ring is built around the lens and can be switched between digital and analog operation with the control lever located on the front of the camera. In digital mode, the ring turns smoothly for fine zooming or manual focusing, and in analog mode, users can adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and more. The front grip ensures a precise hold, while the sub-dial, positioned near the shutter button, provides further operational accuracy. The camera is also equipped with a hot shoe for accessories, built-in flash, a side zoom lever with variable speeds and two customizable function buttons for easy access to commonly used settings.

Wi-Fi Sharing and Control
Built-in Wi-Fi is easy to set up. By quickly scanning the QR code displayed on the camera’s LCD with a smart device, it syncs with the Wi-Fi network created by the camera. The free Olympus Image Share 2.1 Smartphone app synchronizes a user’s Smartphone and the STYLUS 1 so the camera’s “Live View” is effectively displayed on the phone, and the camera can be controlled by touching the Smartphone display*. Users can wirelessly adjust various settings, such as the shutter speed, aperture value, ISO and exposure compensation, as well as operate the Live Bulb shooting mode from their Wi-Fi devices. They can also use their Smartphone to embed GPS information into their images.

Creative Possibilities
In addition to superior still image quality, the 1080p Full HD Movie capability with stereo sound and high-speed movie recording (120fps/240fps) captures movies for dramatic slow-motion playback of fast-action scenes. The STYLUS 1’s 11 included Art Filters™ with bracketing option, five Art Effects and Photo Story™, which shoots a group of still photos straight into attractive, prepared layouts, effortlessly bring the user’s artistic visions to life. Users can also capture RAW image data for post-processing flexibility, create motion blur effects without overexposing thanks to a built-in ND filter (with 3 EV stops) and capture up to 7 frames per second in full resolution!

Several new accessories are designed to complement the STYLUS 1 and broaden the creative potential of this powerhouse compact camera. The EP-11 eyecup cuts out peripheral light for improved visibility in bright conditions; a full-body jacket protects the camera against damage and comes with a tailored cover, and the CLA-13 converter adapter for the high-grade TCON-17x 1.7x teleconverter lens that extends the focal length of the camera to 510mm and retains the outstanding brightness of a constant 1:2.8 aperture.

*35mm equivalent.

As the fifth interchangeable lens camera system introduced within the award-winning FUJIFILM X-Series, the FUJIFILM X-E2 delivers picture quality that rivals full-frame cameras with high definition image capture, Fujifilm’s legendary color reproduction and category-leading speed.

“Outstanding image quality and beautiful design are the hallmarks of the FUJIFILM X-Series experience, and today’s announcement of the new X-E2 shows Fujifilm’s unrelenting commitment to photographic excellence,” said Manny Almeida, senior vice president and general manager, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Imaging and Electronic Imaging Divisions. “With the X-E2, photographers will immediately be amazed by its high-speed hybrid AF with phase detection, pin-sharp image quality, and improved HD movie capture for endless photographic possibilities.”

Award-winning 16.3 Megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II
The FUJIFILM X-E2 uses the 16.3 Megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor which expertly controls moiré and false color generation. This is attained by using an original color filter array with a highly randomized pixel arrangement that removes the need for an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) that degrades resolution. The image quality in the X-E2 is further refined by the inclusion of the first Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) for interchangeable lens cameras.

The EXR Processor II in the new X-E2 more than doubles the processing speed*3 of the previous generation. It is able to harness the information taken from over 100,000 phase detection pixels incorporated in the X-Trans CMOS II to deliver extraordinary imaging capability.

This advanced technology has been made possible by the integrated development of lens, sensor and processor, and is based on the optical performance and characteristics of individual lenses. With each of these components working together, the X-E2 achieves astonishing resolution, extends dynamic range, and reduces noise at high sensitivity.

Fast and accurate focusing
The FUJIFILM X-E2 gives photographers and enthusiasts ultra-fast response times to catch even the quickest memorable moments. The X-E2 has a rapid startup time of 0.5 seconds*4, minimal shutter lag of 0.05 seconds, and high-speed continuous shooting of 7.0 fps (up to approx. 28 frames)*5.

With its auto switching AF, the X-E2 combines contrast AF with an improved phase detection AF algorithm that provides accurate capture of low-contrast subjects in low light as well as high-speed responsiveness.

Manual focus made easier
Manual focus has been made easier by the inclusion of Digital Split Image*6 technology. This helps the user achieve pin-sharp focusing by simply adjusting focus to line up the four stripes displayed in the central part of the live view. Focus HighlightPeaking allows for an outline in
high contrast areas of subjects during focusing, further assisting the photographer in achieving stunningly sharp images.

Classic design and intuitive operation
The FUJIFILM X-E2 continues the tradition of the X-Series with uncompromising craftsmanship and classic design that puts the photographer first. The X-E1 features manually adjustable shutter speed and exposure compensation dials, which has been increased to ±3 EV, for easy controls. The X-E2 also allows users to customize up to four buttons on the top and back of the camera to suit their own shooting style.

The X-E2 features a bright and accurate 2.36 million dot OLED viewfinder with Fujifilm’s original optical design for a distortion-free field of view. A premium clear 3” LCD screen with 1.04 million dot resolution and reinforced glass gives users high viewing angles and a true view of their subject.

Improved movie performance
The FUJIFILM X-E2 shoots full HD video at 1920×1080 with up to 60fps with AF tracking performance for exceptional speed, accuracy and smoothness with a high bitrate of 36Mbps. The X-E2 delivers quick focusing on subjects, even when panning and zooming. With the X-E2, film simulation settings and exposure compensation (±2 EV) can be used during movie recording.

Easy Image Transfer with WiFi® button
The FUJIFILM X-E2 includes a WiFi button that lets users transfer high quality photos and movies*7 to smartphones, tablets and computers for easy sharing on social media sites.

To connect the X-E2 to a smartphone or tablet, users can download the free dedicated “FUJIFILM Camera Application” to their iPhone™ / iPad™ or Android™ smartphone or tablet device to transfer up to 30 pictures at a time from the X-E2. The app also lets users download movies, expanding the range of options available for enjoying pictures taken with the camera.

Once paired, users can press and hold the WiFi button to begin sharing images and movies immediately to their smartphone or tablet.

Valhalla, N.Y., October 18, 2013 – As a leader in advanced digital camera technology and outstanding image resolution, FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced the new FUJIFILM XQ1, a premium pocket-sized digital camera with a bright FUJINON F1.8 4x zoom lens, an advanced 12 Megapixel 2/3” X-Trans CMOS II*1 sensor with phase detection, and the EXR Processor II that delivers the world’s fastest autofocus speed in its category of up to 0.06*2 seconds.

“The XQ1 combines the amazing image quality of the Fujifilm X Series with ultra-portability that makes taking beautiful pictures enjoyable anywhere,” said Manny Almeida, senior vice president and general manager, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Imaging and Electronic Imaging Divisions. “The XQ1 is the most portable X-Series camera ever developed, and people can now experience a premium compact that easily slips into a pocket or purse.”

X-Series image quality and advanced focusing
The FUJIFILM XQ1 uses the 12 Megapixel 2/3” X-Trans CMOS II sensor that is designed to control moiré and false color generation by using an original color filter array with a highly randomized pixel arrangement. This technology removes the need for an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) that degrades resolution. The image quality in the XQ1 is further enhanced by using a Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) for stunningly sharp pictures, as well as a 3.0 stop*3Optical Image Stabilization for shooting in low light situations.

The newly developed FUJINON F1.8 4x zoom (25-100mm*4) is constructed with 4 aspherical and 3 extra low dispersion lenses and each lens surface is coated with HT-EBC to reduce flare and ghosting. The XQ1 also has a wide sensitivity range from ISO100 to ISO12800 so you can take realistic and vibrant images even in low light.

The EXR Processor II in the new XQ1 more than doubles the processing speed*5 of the previous generation, and it easily captures the information taken from over 100,000 phase detection pixels incorporated in the X-Trans CMOS II to deliver astonishing images.

Superb shooting speed and premium compact design
The XQ1 boasts that world’s fastest AF of 0.06 seconds, a shooting interval of just 0.3 seconds*6 between shots, and a shutter lag of 0.015 seconds to capture even the most fleeting and memorable moments.

With its auto switching AF, the XQ1 combines contrast AF with an improved phase detection AF algorithm that provides accurate capture of low-contrast subjects in low light as well as high-speed responsiveness. The XQ1 also gives users Focus Highlight Peaking that outlines high contrast areas of subjects during focusing, which helps users focus accurately for picture results that look fantastic on-screen and in print.

The XQ1 is made with outstanding craftsmanship and the classic design that the X-Series is known for, all within an ultra-small body that is 3.93” (w) x 2.3” (h) x 1.3” (d). Fotodiox Introduces New High-Intensity LED Lights – LED-312D, LED-312DS, and Pro LED-1024AL

Waukegan, IL – October 17, 2013 – Fotodiox the leading manufacturer and distributor of high-quality photography and videography accessories, has announced the availability of its next generation LED light panels; the Fotodiox LED-312D, LED-312DS, and LED-1024AL. The new LED lights are compact and powerful, while remaining lightweight – perfect for both studio and location shooting. Fotodiox’s LED panels generate little heat, use little power, and now the reduced bulk of these newest lights maximize portability and mounting possibilities to capture the perfect shot.

The three new LED panels feature all-metal barn doors to shape and control the light, while a locking system keeps the barn doors in place, no matter how the light is mounted. The lights feature a backlit LCD panel that displays the percentage of light intensity and remaining battery life, to avoid shutdown during the most important photo shoots.

“The new added features, especially the barn doors, make the new equipment ideal for photographers and videographers who want more control, while remaining compact and lightweight to carry on location,” said Kelvin Luo, CEO of Fotodiox. “Our original LED lights were a big hit with both amateur and professional photographers and videographers, and we’re proud to be releasing the next generation of these high-intensity lighting solutions.”

Fotodiox LED-312D

The Fotodiox LED-312D is a versatile professional grade LED light that comes equipped with 312 ultra-bright 5600k LEDs. The powerful daylight balanced LEDs offer a full spectrum of soft light, with full control over the light level from 10-100%. The light is equipped for fully cordless operation with the included lithium-ion battery packs and charger. A rear-mounted backlit LED status display shows both the remaining battery level and the light’s brightness level.

Control and shape the light with the new, all-metal barn doors. Two included diffusion panels securely lock into place – one panel softens the light even more, and the second panel is for matching the 312-D’s light’s color temperature to match tungsten light sources.

Fotodiox LED-312DS

The Fotodiox LED-312DS is an equally powerful and professional LED light panel that shares the form factor of the 312D. Additionally, the 312-DS features a dedicated control to change the light’s color temperature from 5600K daylight to 3200K tungsten color temperature, or any level in between.

The light level is fully dimmable from 10-100%, as indicated by the rear-mounted backlit LCD status display. In addition to the real-time battery level monitor, you can also see the current color temperature output for maximum control of lighting settings.

Fotodiox Pro LED-1024AL

The Fotodiox Pro LED-1024AL comes with over 1,000 powerful LEDs in a compact (12’” x 12”) form. The 5600K daylight LED panel is lightweight, making it the ideal versatile and powerful lighting solution whether in the studio or on location. The complete kit includes the 1024AL light, all-metal mounting yoke, locking diffusion panel, AC adapter, and a custom-fitted soft shell case with handle.

Availability and Pricing

All three of the new Fotodiox LED upgrades are available for immediate sale, and each light kit comes with a 24 month manufacturer warranty.

Hoya PROND – Neutral Density Filters

Hoya-filter-logo

Press Release

OCTOBER 16, 2013 – Kenko Tokina USA, Inc. is pleased to announce the new Hoya PROND line of neutral density filters with ACCU-ND technology.

The ACCU-ND technology in the Hoya PROND filters yields a truly neutral color balance that will not add any noticeable color-cast to your images. The Hoya PROND series is aimed at the still photography and HDSLR video markets. The series provides 9 filters from two stop to 10 stop light reduction.

The Metallic ACCU-ND coating on the PROND filters do not color shift as you move from one density to the next, a common problem with other series of neutral density filters. Now you can set your white balance once and have the same color balance even if you need to change filters due to changes in lighting, or for creative effect.

The PROND filters use Hoya’s exclusive clear optical glass that has a metallic ACCU-ND coating front and back to create the neutral density affect.

Neutral density filters are designed to reduce the amount of light entering your camera lens and should not have any other effect on the image. Reducing the amount of light allows for the use of wider apertures or slower shutter speeds for creative and dramatic effect in bright lighting conditions.

All Hoya PROND filters have a low-profile one piece aluminum frame. The thin frame keeps the glass secure and parallel to the sensor while allowing it to be used with super-wide angle lenses

Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Lens

Sigma 24-105mm f:4 DG OS HSM Lens

Product Summary

Press Release

RONKONKOMA, NY — October 16, 2013 — Sigma Corporation of America a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world’s most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, today announced its newest addition to the Sigma Art line of lenses for full-frame cameras, the 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM.

True to its categorization as a Sigma Art lens, the new 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM is designed for artistic expression and top-notch image quality. This versatile lens covers the basic shooting range from wide to medium tele with an inner focusing system that eliminates front lens rotation, enhancing the lens stability and allowing the use of circular polarizing filters. It also boasts a constant aperture of F4, and contains Sigma’s proprietary Optical Stabilizer (OS) technology to compensate for camera shake. Moreover, it was designed to surpass the required quality inspection of every Global Vision lens with Sigma’s own modulation transfer function (MTF) “A1” measuring system to create new optical standard to align with the high-spec cameras on today’s market.

“For many years, Sigma users have been seeking a standard zoom lens in this range,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “The 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM is yet another example of Sigma listening to its users and delivering new and innovative products with the highest image quality.”

Amir-Hamzeh added that this new lens combines the largest possible fixed aperture to zoom ratio that will maintain optimal integrity for many kinds of photography, including landscapes, architecture, portraiture and still-life. With a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6, this lens is also excellent for close-up photography.

High-performance glass elements, including SLD, FLD, which is equal to fluorite, and glass-molded single- and double-sided aspheric lenses have been included into the optical system to prevent aberration, field curvature, distortions and color aberration. The 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM lens is also able to suppress chromatic aberration very effectively at the telephoto-end, and can achieve superior image quality throughout the zoom range. Unlike lenses with similar specifications, this lens overcomes low peripheral brightness. Although it is designed for full frame cameras, it also works with APS-C sensors, giving an increase to focal length.

The lens’ Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures a silent, high-speed auto focus function and enables full-time manual focusing capability. The 24-105mm is also compatible with Sigma’s USB dock allowing photographers to update its firmware and change focus parameters using Sigma’s Optimization Pro software. It is also compatible with Sigma’s recently announced Mount Conversion Service.
