Press release

The Nikon LD-1000 LED Movie Light Provides Additional Illumination When Capturing Still Images and HD Movies

MELVILLE, N.Y. (September 5, 2013) – Today, Nikon announced the new LD-1000 LED Movie Light, an optional lighting accessory for Nikon 1 and COOLPIX cameras. The LD-1000 LED Movie Light is compact and lightweight, making it convenient to take anywhere. Additionally, it features a built-in diffusion panel, enabling natural, even exposure and smooth textures with soft light. For further versatility, the bracket can be removed from the movie light, allowing it to be held in the hand for free control over the angle of lighting.

Primary Features of the Nikon LD-1000 LED Movie Light:

  • Diffusion Panel for Soft Light that Enables Natural Rendering. The built-in diffusion panel evenly diffuses light for clear and consistent soft illumination. It also enables natural rendering of textures with minimal glare. The movie light can be used as an additional light source when capturing close proximity photography of still subjects like food, or as an additional light source for HD video.
  • Continuous Lighting, The Degree of Which Can be Confirmed During Shooting. As the movie light emits light continuously, rather than momentarily as a conventional camera flash does, the degree and effect of the light can be confirmed in the live view display as it strikes the subject while shooting.
  • Removable Bracket for Lighting From Any Angle. The movie light can be separated from the camera bracket, allowing users to adjust direction and height, as well as the distance of the light from the subject to achieve an optimal lighting angle regardless of the camera’s position. Flexible control over the way a light strikes a subject makes natural rendering possible with a three-dimensional feel.

Price and Availability

The Nikon LD-1000 LED Movie Light will come in Black and White and will be available in October 2013 for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $99.95*. For more information on this new Nikon lighting accessory as well as other Nikon products, please visit www.nikonusa.com.

Press Release:

New Concept Cameras Link Flawlessly to Smartphone, Offering High-Zoom, Stunning Quality Images and HD Videos for Instant Sharing

NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2013 – Merging the creative power of a premium compact camera with the convenience and connectivity of today’s smartphones, Sony today introduced two “lens-style” QX series cameras that bring new levels of fun and creativity to the mobile photography experience.

The innovative Cyber-shot® QX100 and QX10 models utilize Wi-Fi® connectivity to instantly transform a connected smartphone into a versatile, powerful photographic tool, allowing it to shoot high-quality images and HD videos to rival a premium compact camera. It’s an entirely new and different way for consumers to capture and share memories with friends and family.

With a distinct lens-style shape, the new cameras utilize the latest version of Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile™ application (available for iOS™ and Android™ devices, version 3.1 or higher required) to connect wirelessly to a smartphone, converting the bright, large LCD screen of the phone into a real-time viewfinder with the ability to release the shutter, start/stop movie recordings, and adjust common photographic settings like shooting mode, zoom, Auto Focus area and more.

For added convenience, the app can be activated using NFC one-touch with compatible devices. Once pictures are taken, they are saved directly on both the phone and the camera*, and can be shared instantly via social media or other common mobile applications.

“With the new QX100 and QX10 cameras, we are making it easier for the ever-growing population of ‘mobile photographers’ to capture far superior, higher-quality content without sacrificing the convenience and accessibility of their existing mobile network or the familiar ‘phone-style’ shooting experience that they’ve grown accustomed to,” said Patrick Huang, director of the Cyber-shot business at Sony. “We feel that these new products represent not only an evolution for the digital camera business, but a revolution in terms of redefining how cameras and smartphones can cooperatively flourish in today’s market.”

The new compact, ultra-portable cameras can be attached to a connected phone with a supplied mechanically adjustable adapter, or can be held separately in hand or even mounted to a tripod while still maintaining all functionality and connectivity with the smartphone. They can also be operated as completely independent cameras if desired, as both the QX100 and QX10 cameras have a shutter release, memory card slot and come with a rechargeable battery.

Premium, Large-Sensor QX100 Camera

The Cyber-shot QX100 camera features a premium, high-quality 1.0 inch, 20.2 MP Exmor® RCMOS sensor. Identical to the sensor found in the acclaimed Cyber-shot RX100 II camera, it allows for exceptionally detailed, ultra-low noise images in all types of lighting conditions, including dimly lit indoor and night scenes.

The sensor is paired with a fast, wide-aperture Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* lens with 3.6x optical zoom and a powerful BIONZ® image processor, ensuring beautifully natural, detail-packed still images and HD videos. As an extra refinement, the QX100 sports a dedicated control ring for camera-like adjustment of manual focus and zoom.

Several different shooting modes can be selected while using the QX100 including Program Auto, Aperture Priority, Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto, which automatically recognizes 44 different shooting conditions and adjusts camera settings to suit.

High-Zoom Cyber-shot QX10 model

Boasting a powerful 18.2 effective megapixel Exmor RCMOS sensor and versatile 10x optical zoom Sony G Lens, the Cyber-shot QX10 camera allows mobile photographers to bring distant subjects closer without sacrificing image quality or resolution, a common problem in smartphones. It’s also extremely portable and lightweight – weighing less than 4 oz and measuring about 2.5”X2.5”x1.3”, it’s a great tool for travel photography.

Additionally, the camera has built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to combat camera shake, keeping handheld pictures and videos steady and blur-free. It has Program Auto, Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto modes to choose from, and will be available in two different colors – black and white.

Pricing and Availability

The new Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10 lens-style cameras will available later this month for about $500 and $250, respectively.

The cameras and a range of compatible accessories including a soft carry case and dedicated camera attachment for Sony Mobile phones like the Xperia™ Z can be purchased at Sony retail stores (www.store.sony.com) and other authorized dealers nationwide.

Designed for Film-Style Operation, the Canon Cinema Prime Lenses Deliver Exceptional 4K / 2K / HD Imaging Performance and a Broad Range of Focal Lengths

MELVILLE, N.Y., September 4, 2013 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, has announced today the new CN-E35mm T1.5 L F single-focal-length Cinema prime lens designed for large-format single-sensor digital cinematography cameras employing Super 35mm or full-frame 35mm imagers. Delivering outstanding optical performance in contemporary 4K / 2K / HD motion imaging, the new Canon CN-E35mm T1.5 L F prime lens is the sixth member of Canon’s line of compact, precision-matched EF-mount Cinema prime lenses, which also includes 14mm, 24mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm EF-mount models.

Canon CN-E35mm T1.5 L F Lens

Collectively, Canon’s Cinema prime lens family delivers a wide range of the most important choices in focal lengths to address a myriad of creative digital cinematography choices. All six Canon Cinema prime lenses provide a full-frame 36mm x 24mm image circle for full compatibility with the Canon EOS-1D C, EOS C500, EOS C300 Digital Cinema cameras, the EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X DSLR cameras, the EOS C100 Digital Video Camera and EF-mount cameras made by other manufacturers. The lenses also feature consistent color balance, minimal focus breathing, water-resistant rubber gaskets, and an 11-blade aperture diaphragm to help achieve creative depth-of-field manipulation and pleasing “bokeh” effects. The six Canon Cinema prime lenses are also designed to facilitate production with uniform stepless gear-positioning rings for iris and focus, with an identical 300§ smooth rotation angle on the focus ring. These control rings – switchable from feet to metric labeling – maintain just the right amount of resistance with consistent operating torque. Lens barrels are engraved with easy-to-read scale markings, and consistent 114mm front lens diameters can accommodate screw-on filters and other accessories.

“As with all Canon Cinema prime lenses, the new Canon CN-E35mm T1.5 L F lens has been crafted to meet the creative requirements of the most discerning cinematographers, directors and producers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. “Filmmakers indicated a need for this lens in our lineup and with its launch, we now offer six cinema prime lenses covering some of the most important focal lengths.”

Canon EF Mount Advantages

All Canon Cinema prime lenses feature a genuine Canon EF-mount with electronic contacts that interface with corresponding contacts on Canon cameras for direct communication between each device. This communication allows lens data – including F-numbers – to be displayed in the viewfinder. Both the F-number and the lens model name are also recorded in the camera’s video file as metadata. The new upcoming firmware announced today for the Canon Cinema EOS C500, EOS C300 and EOS C100 cameras will provide Canon proprietary features, such as the Peripheral Illumination Correction function, for the CN-E14mm, 24mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lenses and is scheduled to be available by the end of 2013. Such features are scheduled to be available for the new CN-E35mm lens in 2014.

Press Release:

New Entry-Level ILC Features Large 20.1 MP APS-C Sensor, Electronic Viewfinder and Comfortable Shooting Design

SAN DIEGO, August 27, 2013 –Designed to bring the benefits of large-sensor imaging to a variety of new customers, Sony’s α3000 interchangeable lens camera combines DSLR capabilities with a comfortable, easy-to-use package.

The new camera features a large, high-resolution 20.1 MP Exmor™ APS-C HD CMOS sensor, a bright electronic viewfinder and the same lens mount as Sony’s popular line of E-mount cameras, making it compatible with the system’s ever-growing assortment of high-quality lenses ranging from telephotos, wide angles and macros to versatile zoom and portrait lenses.

“The new a3000 represents the ultimate combination of performance and value in an interchangeable lens camera,” said Mike Kahn, director of the interchangeable lens camera business group at Sony.  “With a familiar, comfortable shooting design, impressive imaging capabilities and an outstanding price, it’s the ideal choice for customers looking to experience the vast benefits of large sensor, interchangeable lens imaging for the very first time.”

The powerful 20.1 MP APS-C sized image sensor in the α3000 is the same size sensor found in most traditional DSLRs, and is the key to capturing crisp, highly-detailed still images and Full HD videos (1080/60i or 1080/24p).  The large sensor also boosts sensitivity, grabbing more light and cutting image noise to produce better quality content in low-light conditions, where a smartphone or point-and-shoot camera typically struggles.

The new camera features a clear, bright electronic Tru-Finder viewfinder with generous 100% field coverage allowing for an effortless framing experience.  The viewfinder can also display a variety of key shooting information and shows a live preview of the composed image to illustrate the effect of any setting adjustments. This same “Live View” shooting experience is also available through the bright rear LCD screen for those that prefer to frame and compose at arm’s length.

The new α3000 model features a classic DSLR-style design with a standard P/A/S/M mode dial and several customizable control buttons for making common adjustments to settings.  The grip is stable yet lightweight, giving shooters a strong, comfortable grasp of the camera.

Creatively, the new α3000 camera offers a total of 15 different Picture Effect settings including Retro Photo, Miniature Camera, Partial Color and much more. The camera also has Auto Object Framing, which neatly trims portraits, close-ups and even moving subjects for tighter, more professional results.  When this feature is engaged, the camera saves both the original and cropped images for review, making it yet another practical learning and teaching tool for beginning photographers.

With the α3000’s Multi Interface Shoe terminal, users can broaden their shooting experience by adding external accessories like flash, video lights, or microphones.  Compatible accessories include the HVL-F43M flash with Sony’s unique Quick Shift bounce system for eliminating shadows as well an LED light for video, the HVL-LEIR1 Video IR light for brightening up dimly lit parties and indoor scenes, the ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone for capturing clearer dialogue and sound and much more.

Pricing and Availability

The new α3000 interchangeable lens camera will be available in early September for about $400, paired with a black 18-55mm zoom kit lens (model SEL1855).

Sony Introduces Ultra-Portable NEX-5T Compact System Camera with Wi-Fi®, NFC and Fast Hybrid AF

SAN DIEGO, August 27, 2013 –The versatile new Sony α NEX-5T compact system camera combines a stylish, ultra-compact design and the creative capabilities of interchangeable lenses with large-sensor image quality, speedy Auto Focus (AF) and the convenience of NFC (Near Field Communication) one-touch for easier Wi-Fi connectivity.

Inside the new camera is a large, high-resolution 16.1 effective megapixel Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor – identical in size to the sensors found in traditional DSLR cameras. The large sensor takes in more light during image capture, allowing for richly detailed DSLR-quality still images and full HD videos.

The new NEX-5T camera will come in a kit with the sharp, compact SELP1650 motorized zoom lens, which measures only about 1.2 inches thick when fully retracted. The lens contains built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization for clearer handheld images and has a smooth power zoom dial that is particularly useful during video shooting.

“This new camera carries on the NEX-5 series’ strong tradition of compactness and high performance,” said Mike Kahn, director of the interchangeable lens camera business group at Sony.  “Available in a convenient, travel-friendly package with the compact SELP1650 power zoom kit lens, it’s the ideal choice for step-up point-and-shoot users, smartphone photographers who want higher quality images and even photo enthusiasts who are looking for a more portable alternative to replace their DSLR.”

NFC and Wi-Fi Convenience

The new α NEX-5T camera is the first Sony interchangeable lens camera to feature NFC, giving the extra convenience of one-touch wireless connectivity with compatible Android smartphones and tablets1. A connection is activated automatically as soon as the mobile device touches the camera, allowing for immediate image and video2 sharing between devices.  Content is then safely stored on the connected device and can be shared via social media and other common applications.

For devices without NFC one-touch capabilities, users can wirelessly transfer images and videos between compatible devices through use of Wi-Fi™ and Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile application, available for both the iOS and Android platforms.

Additionally, a “Smart Remote Control” feature on the NEX-5T utilizes Wi-Fi to send a live image preview to a wirelessly connected camera or tablet, allowing it to act as a remote viewfinder, adjust common photographic settings and release the shutter button. It’s a unique, fun feature that can be used for framing and shooting group portraits that include the photographer, and can be activated using either NFC one-touch or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Fast Hybrid AF

In line with last year’s NEX-5R model, the new NEX-5T camera also features Fast Hybrid AF auto focus technology, which combines phase-detection and contrast-detection methods to ensure speedy, accurate autofocus in any shooting situation. The intuitive focusing system uses 99 phase-detection AF points arrayed on the image sensor to detect a subject’s distance and quickly lock focus. Then, contrast-detection AF confirms extremely fine, precise details.

In Speed Priority mode, the camera will switch automatically to phase detection tracking AF to track fast-moving action accurately in each frame up to 10 frames per second3.

Expanding PlayMemories™ Camera Apps Platform

The growing range of downloadable PlayMemories Camera Apps4 add more fun and exciting features to the NEX-5T camera. Shooters can pick from a range of free and nominal cost apps to broaden creative options and experiment with new photography effects.

There are 15 apps currently available, including “Direct Upload,” which allows photos to be uploaded directly to Facebook™ and now Flickr as well, with support for additional services scheduled for the future. Other fun applications include “Motion-shot,” which can combine several different shots from an action-series into one creative photo, “Time-Lapse,” which takes several photos over a series of time and stitches them together to create time-lapse photography, and several other creative and teaching tools.

Design and Control

The new NEX-5T camera features a fully programmable control dial and Fn (function) button – a versatile combination for photographers accustomed to the flexibility and direct control of a DSLR camera. The camera’s intuitive touch-screen LCD can flip downwards for high-angle shots over crowds, or upwards up to 180 degrees for easy arm’s length self-portraits. It also has a touch-shutter function for added convenience.

New Sony α Accessories

A range of optional accessories offers stylish protection for the camera. Designed in a range of colors to fit the NEX-5T and NEX-5R cameras including black, pink, orange and green, the LCJ-EBA case is a thin, light body jacket that allows full use of the new camera’s NFC function.

The new LCS-EMJ is a soft carrying case with an expandable structure that accommodates any E-mount camera and lens ranging from pancake prime lenses to longer telezoom models.

For convenient power supply, the new versatile BC-QM1 battery charger doubles as a handy power source for smartphones and cameras. This compact battery charger is ideal for travel with a retracting plug and universal voltage AC10-240V (50/60Hz).

Pricing and Availability

The NEX-5T compact system camera will be offered in silver, black and white for about $700 in a kit with a compact, versatile 16-50mm motorized zoom lens (model SELP1650) or as a body-only for about $550. It will be available for purchase in early September.

Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS Power Zoom Lens for E-mount

Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS Power Zoom Lens

Product Summary

Overview

Sony announces new E-mount lenses for NEX system cameras: the E 18-105mm F4 G power zoom lens. It features Sony’s OSS Optical SteadyShot image stabilization. The 18-105mm F4 covers a 27-157.5mm equivalent range and is controlled via a lever on the side of the lens barrel. The lens uses two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements.

The new E 18-105mm F4 G power zoom lens is the first ever G lens created for Sony’s E-mount line of cameras.  The premium all-around lens covers a generous 5.8x zoom range from 18mm – 105mm (full frame equivalent 27mm – 157.5mm) and is an ideal choice for travel photography as well as every day, general purpose shooting.

The innovative optical design of the new zoom reflects its G Lens pedigree.  Two ED glass elements are combined with three aspherical elements for high resolution and contrast throughout the entire zoom range, minimizing distortion and color aberration.

Featuring a remarkably smooth, quiet autofocus and powerzoom operation, the premium G lens is particularly suited for video shooting.  The conveniently-placed zoom lever on the lens barrel allows fixed or variable-speed power zooming, with easy fingertip operation to reduce unwanted camera shake.   Further, the overall lens length remains unchanged during focusing and zoom operation, maintaining consistent handling and delivering a more natural shooting experience.

Like the new Carl Zeiss zoom lens, the E 18-105mm F4 G model has a circular aperture that enables smooth, professional quality background defocus, and maintains a constant F4 maximum aperture for plenty of brightness at all zoom settings.  It also features Optical SteadyShot to cut the effects of camera shake while shooting.
