The Story Of Nikon Brand “The Day”

January 31, 2013 – Nikon today released its second movie, “The DAY”, telling the story of the Nikon brand (http://nikonimaging.tumblr.com). This is the second series following “Tears,” released on September last year, which captured the human’s ultimate emotion, “Tears.”

“The DAY” will be presented at the Nikon booth at the CP+ 2013 Camera & Photo Imaging Show (to be held January 31–February 3 at the Pacifico Yokohama Japan, and sponsored by the Camera & Imaging Products Association).

“The DAY” is based on the concept of capture the light of imagination. This is a story of “a day” full of discoveries and the day shows the many special moments that touch people’s hearts.

It expresses the fun of manipulating light with Nikon digital cameras and NIKKOR lenses, which have always led the times. It incorporates various scenes, such as a grand landscape created by the morning sun, a vibrant flower found while out on a walk, the natural smile of a child, wonderful photographs that can be captured by simply changing composition and angle, and dreamlike expressions that can be created by utilizing diffused reflections of light and back light.

Regardless of the age, Nikon is constantly striving to use its optical technologies to expand shooting possibilities to enable capture of scenes and subjects that were previously impossible. This year, Nikon celebrates the 80th anniversary of its NIKKOR lenses, which represent the culmination of these optical technologies. The optical technologies Nikon has developed and cultivated over its long history have always formed the foundation for NIKKOR lenses. With each age, however, NIKKOR lenses are developed to maximize the innovative features and characteristics of the latest cameras, always enabling capture of scenes and subjects that could never be captured before and supporting capture of the special moments.

Casio Announces Exilim EX-ZR700 and EX-ZR400 High Speed compacts

Press Release:

Casio Expands Lineup of Responsive High Speed EXILIM Cameras

TOKYO, January 29, 2013: With the aim of providing digital cameras that enable people to capture fleeting moments with beautiful images, Casio has been pursuing the full potential of the compact digital camera using its original high-speed technologies. This effort is based on the company’s “Triple Zero” development objective, which seeks to minimize and eliminate shutter lag, out-of-focus shots, and image blurring due to camera shake.TOKYO, January 29, 2013 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., today announced the release of two new models in the High Speed EXILIM line of digital cameras. The EX-ZR700 is equipped with a wide-angle 25 mm,*1 18x optical zoom lens, while the EX-ZR400 offers long battery life enabling it to capture about 515 photos*2 on a single full charge, the most of any camera in the line. High Speed EXILIM cameras offer popular responsive photo-taking features such as fast start-up, high-speed auto focus, and capture intervals of a fraction of a second.

With the adoption of the latest EXILIM Engine HS Ver. 3, the two new models combine responsive operation and high-speed burst shooting. A new Triple Shot function allows the user to responsively capture three successive images with a single press of the shutter, while a new inset display enables the user to review shots shown in part of the LCD while taking photos. Thanks to these new features, even camera novices can reliably capture moments as they intended, including the fleeting expressions of a child.

Casio Exilim EX-ZR700

Equipped with a wide-angle 25 mm, 18x optical zoom lens, the compact EX-ZR700 offers greatly enhanced image stabilization thanks to the adoption of lens shift image stabilization and technology for combining high-speed burst images (in High-Speed Anti Shake mode). Even in situations where it is necessary to shoot from a distance, such as recitals and sporting events, users can deftly capture their children’s big moments without any image blur. Captured photos also look beautiful on the camera’s high-resolution 3.0-inch 920K LCD.

Casio EX-ZR400

Meanwhile, the new EX-ZR400 offers the longest battery life in this series, enabling the capture of about 515 images on a single charge. Even on family trips, where photo opportunities abound, users can forget about the battery level and focus on capturing their children’s smiles.

Both new models come with Premium Auto Pro, which automatically combines images taken with high-speed burst shooting according to the shooting conditions, to dramatically improve final image quality in challenging situations. They have shooting functions that fully control focus, as well. These include All-In-Focus Macro, which can capture an entire scene in focus from the near foreground to the distant background, and Blurred Background, which yields impressive shots that look like they were taken with an SLR camera. Without the need for interchangeable lenses or difficult settings, users can take fun, beautiful shots with ease.

Olympus announces Stylus XZ-10

Olympus Stylus XZ-10 Enthusiast Compact

Olympus Stylus XZ-10

Press release:

Ultra-portable, ultra-usable and still ultra-bright. New XZ-10 cements STYLUS’ high-end compact crown

Olympus adds super-lightweight XZ to class-leading compact range

London, 30 January 2013 – For photography enthusiasts looking for a high-end compact that delivers outstanding images even in low light, the game-changing STYLUS XZ range stands out from the rest. And now Olympus has made the range even stronger, with the addition of the slender STYLUS XZ-10. Even by XZ standards, the XZ-10 is extremely compact and light, but it is also extremely well equipped and boasts many of the features that make the flagship STYLUS XZ-2 such a remarkable camera. It has a super-bright 1:1.8-stop zoom lens, pro-style manual settings, ISO 6400, a 12-Megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and the powerful TruePic VI image processor used in the Olympus OM-D. The lens gives you 26mm* wide-angle flexibility, a 5x optical zoom and excellent 1:2.7-aperture brightness even at maximum zoom. The XZ-10 also boasts a host of clever feature upgrades such as 120fps high-speed HD movie recording and Photo Story, which lets you shoot a group of still photos with Art Filters straight into attractive, pre-prepared layouts that are ready for sharing without the need for more work on a computer. The XZ-10 offers an ideal combination of optical brilliance, pocket-sized design and the usability required to shoot and share every day on the fly. It will be available from late March 2013 for just £349.99, in black, brown or white.

A perfect 10

For people who like to carry their camera with them all the time, the STYLUS XZ-10 is the perfect high-end compact. It’s about 40% smaller by volume** than the classic STYLUS XZ-2, but still offers all the advantages of a super-bright, large-aperture i.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1:1.8-2.7 wide zoom lens that retains its brightness right across the zoom range. The XZ-10 delivers light-rich, 1.8 f-stop performance at a 26mm* wide angle and 1:2.7 at maximum 5x zoom. Together with ISO 6400 plus Olympus’ advanced iHS image processing and CMOS sensor technologies, this superb lens gives you new creative potential by expanding the range of shots you can take. From 1-cm macros to expansive landscapes and expressive portraits to inspirational mixed-light scenes, you can be confident of getting just the effect you have in mind. You can defocus the background to generate professional-looking bokeh. Or shoot blur-free images in difficult light without a tripod – by selecting a short exposure time and Handheld Starlight Mode with Flash. Even at high ISO settings, iHS technologies deliver low noise and radiant colours with crisp details and rich gradation in both dark and light parts of your shot.

Convenient customisation

Unlike most compacts, the XZ-10 lets you work your settings like a pro. Just like the STYLUS flagship XZ-2, it has a customisable control ring around the lens for adjusting key parameters manually, without taking your eye off your subject. Aperture, exposure time and program shift are some of the settings available via the control ring. Alternatively, for fast access to ISO or metering, you can assign these to the Fn button on the back of the camera to ensure quick, easy handling on the go.

Intuitive intelligence

On top of the manual settings, an array of practical features makes the XZ-10 one of the most intuitive high-end all-rounders to use. If you prefer to let electronics do more of the work, you might start with the 3-inch, quickresponse touch-sensitive LCD. With one tap of your finger, it can focus on fast-moving subjects and trigger your shot. Alternatively, simply switch on Live Guide or enhanced i-Auto. Transferring stills and 1080p Full HD movies is just as intuitive. The XZ-10 is FlashAir™ compatible so you can connect to your cloud or a social network website using your familiar smartphone interface and an optional FlashAir™ memory card.

Colour No.2 for the XZ-2

From February 2013, the award-winning STYLUS flagship XZ-2 will be available for the first time in white (as well as black), for £479.99. Professionals and ambitious hobby photographers appreciate the XZ-2 for its outstanding image quality that stems in part from its large 1/1.7” backlit CMOS sensor. It’s also popular for its full range of customisable manual controls and accessories, which are reminiscent of a system camera. The LCD on the XZ-2 is tiltable to help with shooting low down or above head height and it goes one better than the new XZ-10 with a digital/analogue customisable hybrid control ring. Like a system camera, the XZ-2 has an accessory port and is compatible with a wide range of dedicated add-ons that includes an external flash, electronic viewfinder, automatic lens cap, body jacket and a dedicated underwater housing.

XZ-10 outstanding features:

FUJIFILM launches superb new FinePix F900EXR Compact Ultra Zoom camera with World’s Fastest AF of 0.05sec.*1 & Wireless Image Transfer

FUJIFILM is proud to announce the release of the FinePix F900EXR travel zoom camera; this handsome, pocketable compact is the latest addition to FUJIFILM’s F series. It’s targeted at an audience looking for excellent image quality, long zoom capabilities and advanced features, in a lightweight and slimline body. With a high precision FUJINON 20× optical zoom lens with a minimum focal length of 25mm *3 plus a powerful new EXR-CMOS II sensor with extra fast Phase Detection AF and an EXR Processor II, the F900EXR offers near instantaneous reactions and excellent functionality.

Super-fast response times

The F900EXR’s new “Intelligent Hybrid AF system” focuses in as little as 0.05sec.*1 when employing the new Phase Detection AF which uses special new pixels that have been added to the EXR-CMOS II sensor. Its speed ensures that your subject will be captured at the precise moment you want them to be, avoiding missed photo opportunities. The camera automatically switches between Phase Detection AF and Contrast Detection AF depending on the subject and scene, guaranteeing superb ease-of-use and fast, accurate, autofocus whatever the shooting conditions.

The bespoke 16 megapixel ½” EXR-CMOS II back-side illuminated (BSI) sensor has been engineered to ensure that there will be enough light available for Phase Detection AF at larger apertures and in circumstances where the angle of incidence of light is high.

In addition, the EXR Processor II more than doubles the performance of the first-generation EXR Processor. With a super-fast startup time of 1.1sec.*4, an interval between shots of 0.5sec.*4,  and burst-mode rates of 11 frames/sec.*4 (max. 5 frames), the F900EXR offers fantastic response times that make it a joy to use and ensure you should never have to worry about missing that special shot again.

What’s more, you can take advantage of the superb capabilities of the EXR-CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II just by selecting FUJIFILM’s EXR AUTO mode. In this mode, the camera has the ability to automatically optimise output by choosing between 108 pre-determined scene permutations and adjusting settings to suit the scene for hassle-free, high-quality results whatever your subject.

FUJINON 20× optical zoom lens combines with Intelligent Digital Zoom for up to a 40× zoom

From 25mm*3 (wide) to 500mm *3 (telephoto), the F900EXR offers an impressive zoom range packed into a very slim-line camera body. With the ability to combine the 20x optical zoom with the intelligent digital zoom allowing magnification up to 40×, the F900EXR will capture crisp images of subjects at an impressive distance.

Featuring advanced CMOS-shift image stabilisation which reduces the blurring which often occurs at long zoom ratios from camera shake or subject movement, the F900EXR is built to help you take good quality long zoom shots. With its superior grip for additional hold, you will feel in total control when you’re snapping away on your travels.

Wireless Image Transfer makes it easy to transfer photos and movies*5 to smartphones and computers

The F900EXR’s new wireless feature lets you transfer photos and movies*5 from the FinePix F900EXR to smartphones, tablets, and computers

For first time, via Wi-Fi® *6, FUJIFILM is able to offer a means to back up your photos on your home PC. Just install the free “FUJIFILM PC AutoSave” software onto your PC and select which folder you want the photos to back up to, and then by linking your Wi-Fi Router and the F900EXR camera you will have set up a very simple to use backup for your photos on your home PC.

To connect to smartphones and tablets you will need to download the free dedicated “FUJIFILM Camera Application” to your iPhone, iPad, or Android™ smartphone or tablet device to transfer up to 30 pictures at a time from the FinePix F900EXR. The app also lets you download movies*5, expanding the range of options available for enjoying pictures taken with the camera. Pictures stored on the camera can be viewed and selected for download on large smartphone or tablet screens for a smooth download experience. No wireless LAN access point or complicated ID or password entry is required, and once pictures have been downloaded to the smartphone, it’s a simple task to upload them to social networking sites.

High-quality pictures and movies*5 can be uploaded hassle-free to the smartphone or tablet of anyone who has downloaded the free “FUJIFILM Camera Application”.

Record Full HD movies, thanks to the EXR- CMOS II sensor

Shoot video footage in Full HD at a smooth 60 frames per second with improved Phase Detection AF without losing any of the superior colour reproduction qualities offered by the EXR-CMOS II sensor with high bit rate. Movie recording can be started with a single press of the dedicated “Movie recording button”. You can record high-quality sound using the built-in stereo microphone.

Optical zoom and still image photography are available during movie recording. Portraits will always be in focus thanks to the face-tracking autofocus feature, which even tracks subjects that look down or away.

The Intelligent Hybrid AF is active during movie recording for fast, precise focus. The camera also offers a Scene Recognition for movie recording feature that automatically adjusts camera settings for landscapes, close-ups, night landscapes, portraits, backlit portraits, and night portraits for high-quality, hassle-free results with a variety of subjects.

The fully-featured camera makes photography a snap

The FinePix F900EXR offers “Advanced Filter” for hassle-free access to innovative forms of artistic expression. You can preview these on the LCD before you take your shot.

  • Toy Camera Create shaded borders as if you were taking a photo on a toy camera
  • Miniature Add top and bottom blur for a diorama or miniature effect
  • Pop Colour Emphasise contrast and colour saturation
  • High Key Enhance brightness and reduce contrast to lighten tonal reproduction
  • Low Key (NEW) – Create uniformly dark tones with few areas of emphasised highlights
  • Dynamic Tone – Create a fantasy effect by dynamically-modulated tonal reproduction
  • Soft Focus (NEW) – Create a look that is evenly soft throughout the whole image
  • Partial Colour Retain one selected original colour and change the rest of the photo to black and white. Colours can be selected from red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple for dramatic effect

Further improvements have been made to “Advanced Anti-blur” mode, in which the camera takes four shots in rapid succession at high sensitivity settings and combines them using advanced image processing technology to reduce the effects of blur: it now works effectively with moving subjects for even more beautiful blur- and noise-free shots in low light and at high zoom ratios.

Combine two shots into a “Multiple Exposure” shot for a unique effect. Superimposed over the view through the lens in the monitor, the first shot serves as a guide to composing the second shot, allowing more accurate composition and giving you a better idea of how the picture will turn out for unique, creative works of art.

The “Motion panorama 360” feature makes it a snap to record dynamic, seamless 360° panoramas. And “Film simulation” lets you choose from five different combinations of colour gamut and tonal range, just as you used to choose the appropriate Fujifilm colour reversal film.

Extra clear display and superb ease-of-use for a variety of shooting modes

Its bright, high-precision, premium 3.0-inch, 920,000-dot LCD monitor offers a Monitor Sunlight mode for enhanced viewing in bright sunlight and a greatly improved viewing angle, thanks to a special film overlay employed. The improved viewing angle allows you to take photos from higher angles and makes it easier to show your photos/videos to a group of people crowded around the camera.

Update!: Canon EOS 1D X firmware v1.2.1 is now available for download here

Press Release

Release of New Firmware Version 1.2.1, firmware incorporating disablement (operational error prevention) of the Image Size selection button

We are releasing firmware version 1.2.1 for EOS -1D X for service prior to the Web announcement. We are planning to make this firmware available on the Web for download in mid-January 2013.

This firmware update is to improve operational function in response from several professional

photographers that the Image Selection button was pressed without realizing and the image size had been changed. Also, this firmware incorporates quality issue fixes that have been reported from the market.

1. Details of Functional Improvements and Fixes

1-1. The function to disable the Image Size selection button is added.

1-2. Fixes Err 70 and Err 80 which may occur depending on the camera settings, shooting scenes, or the timing of releases. Also, some complained camera freeze when Err 80 occurred.

The above mentioned (1-2) phenomenon occur in very rare instances. In addition with the firmware update for 1-1, the fixes for these phenomena have been incorporated.

a) Err 70

In customization of operational buttons, there were errors in operational program for the exposure level display in the viewfinder when the Main Dial is set to change the aperture value in Manual mode, and may cause Err 70.

b) Err 80

Err 80 may occur depending on the distance to the subject, shooting scenes, or the timing of metering.

This phenomenon occurs in very rare instances due to the error in operational program for metering when shooting a subject at a distance with telephoto lenses with focal lengths of 300 mm or 400 mm.

Pentax Unveils WG-3 and WG-3 GPS waterproof cameras

Pentax WG-3 and WG-3 GPS

PENTAX Announces the 15th Generation Rugged Camera – the WG-3 GPS and WG-3. Equipped with fast F2.0 lens, in-camera shake reduction, and increased waterproof, crushproof and shockproof ratings.

Press Release

Denver, CO (January 29, 2013)— Leveraging its long-standing and comprehensive expertise in the waterproof category, PENTAX RICOH IMAGING AMERICAS CORPORATION (PENTAX) has introduced the 15th generation in its adventureproof line-up of point and shoot cameras, the WG-3. Boasting a diverse set of new features and improved specifications, the WG-3 is the ideal companion to capture life’s planned and unplanned adventures.

The WG-3 boasts a rich feature-set that has been optimized to meet the rigorous and demanding needs of the adventurous photo enthusiast, whose travels and exploits can take them into a variety of scenarios too challenging for the traditional point-and-shoot. Its  newly designed, large-aperture, 4x optical zoom lens (with the maximum aperture of F2.0 at wide-angle end), high-sensitivity, back-illuminated 16 megapixel CMOS image sensor, and sensor-shift Shake Reduction system ensure sharp, high-quality, low-noise images.

The WG-3 GPS and WG-3 come equipped with a state-of-the-art, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, which is superior in high-sensitivity and low-noise characteristics and assures high-speed readout of image data signals. Coupled with its new-generation imaging engine, this image sensor delivers a top sensitivity of ISO 6400 and super-high-resolution images with 16.0 effective megapixels. The WG-3 GPS and WG-3 also provide advanced image processing functions made possible by the latest super-resolution technology to ensure sharp and clear images; even offering innovative features as a Handheld Night Snap mode, which automatically captures four images of the same scene and produces a single blur-free, composite image from them.

Dual anti-shake protection for crisp, blur-free images
Combining PENTAX’s expertise in Shake Reduction technology and experience in the rugged camera category, the WG-3 GPS and WG-3’s are the first in the WG line to feature a dual shake reduction system combining an image-sensor-shift-type SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism with a Digital SR mode to more effectively compensate for the adverse effects of camera shake and subject shake in shake-prone conditions, such as when capturing poorly lit subject with ambient light only, or when shooting sunset scenes.

Six LED Macro Lights to assist close-up shooting
By positioning six LED Macro Lights around the circumference of the lens barrel for macro shooting, the WG-3 and WG-3 GPS provide brighter, more uniform illumination on the subject when the Digital Microscope mode is selected.* Thanks to the inclusion of the Macro Lights, the user can clearly see a magnified view of a microscopic world often unnoticeable with the naked eye on the camera’s LCD monitor and effortlessly capture eye-catching images. In order to minimize camera shake and subject shake, the instant illumination function allows for the use of a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the illumination level of the Macro Lights at the moment of shutter release. In addition, the Macro Lights double to offer other user-friendly features, such as a Self-Portrait Assist mode to check if the subject’s face is safely captured within the picture frame using the blink of an LED lamp, and a LED lighting mode to use the Macro Lights as a lighting device in the dark.
* When the Digital Microscope mode is selected, the recorded size is fixed at 2.0 megapixels (at 16:9 proportions).

Advanced GPS functions and pressure/altitude/depth gauge to facilitate outdoor shooting (available with the WG-3 GPS only)
The WG-3 GPS comes equipped with a sophisticated GPS module, which automatically records position data* and travel log data onto captured images and adjusts the built-in clock to local time. Thanks to newly incorporated pressure sensor and digital compass, the user can not only check the pressure, altitude/underwater depth and direction of a shooting location, but also record such data onto captured images for future reference.
* Location data recorded at the time of shooting can be confirmed with the use of the accompanying software (Windows version only).

Full HD movie recording for extended shooting of high-quality movies
The WG-3 GPS and WG-3 provide Full HD movie recording employing the H.264 recording format, allowing the user to capture high-quality, extended movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 proportions) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. They also feature a high-speed camera function* for slow-motion playback of captured movie clips and a fast-forward movie function** to simplify creative movie techniques. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is also provided on their camera body for simultaneous output of Full HD movie clips and sound to external devices.
* When this function is selected, the recorded size is fixed at 1280 x 720 pixels).
** When this function is selected, the recorded size is fixed at 640 x 360 pixels).

Extra-large, high-resolution, wide-frame 3.0 inch LCD monitor
These WG- 3 series models incorporate an extra-large, high-resolution 3.0 inch color LCD monitor with horizontally extended 16:9 proportions and approximately 460,000 dots. The PENTAX-original AR (Anti-Reflection) coating minimizes annoying glare and reflections to assure a sharp, clear on-screen image and video playback even under harsh sunshine, while its wide-view design offers a clear view of the monitor from approximately 170 degrees horizontally and vertically, making it particularly useful in low and high angle shooting.

Wireless recharging (available with the WG-3 GPS only)
The WG-3 GPS is compatible with the wireless Qi (inductive power standard) recharging system, which automatically recharges the built-in battery simply by placing the camera on a Qi-compatible wireless charger. Its durable assembly and robust feature-set makes the WG-10 the ideal companion camera for life’s explorers; striking the perfect balance between a point and shoot and PENTAX’s category defining adventure-ready features.

Waterproof to depths of 33 feet, the WG-10 can withstand the rough-and-tumble lifestyle of an active shooter.  The WG-10 bridges the gap between the common point and shoot and life’s more challenging photo opportunities that might require waterproofing or the ability to function in a very cold environment; like a trip to the waterpark or an impromptu snowball fight. The WG-10 offers a 14 megapixel backlit CMOS image sensor and a state-of-the-art imaging processing engine assuring rich and detailed imagery.

“The WG-10 is a compelling offering for the active family or dynamic shooter,” said John Carlson, Sr. Marketing Manager, PENTAX. “With the WG-10 you no longer need to sit on the edge of the pool at the waterpark or flinch when your six-year-old grabs the camera to take a picture. It is durable enough to withstand the elements, yet still capture vibrant images worthy of framing or sharing.”

Within its compact body, the WG-10 also features a 5X optical zoom lens with coverage from 5mm to 25mm (equivalent to approx. 28mm wide angle to approx. 140mm medium telephoto in the 35mm format). Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f:3.5-4.5G ED lens

Product Summary

Overview

Wide angle lenses that are sharp from corner to corner are perfect for landscape or group photos. The new AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens is sharp from corner to corner with little distortion if you know what you’re doing. The lens is compatible with both FX and DX format DSLRs, comes with a wide 18-35mm focal length range and has manual focusing override at all times.

Key features & specs

  • Maximum aperture f/3.5 and minimum of f/29
  • This is a G lens compatible with all new FX and DX format cameras. Works perfectly with modern cheaper cameras with no AF motors.
  • 7 rounded diaphragm blades
  • 12 lens elements arranged in 8 groups
  • AF-S with SWM (Silent Wave Motor) Nikkor’s Silent Wave Motor for quiet auto-focusing
  • Weighs 385 grams and takes a filter of 77mm

The good

The lens is compatible with all modern Nikon DSLRs, both FX and DX formats. Auto-focuses perfectly with cheaper DSLRs with no focusing motor. For older cameras, however, it is best to check the compatibility charts from Nikon.

The image quality of the lens is very sharp. However if you don’t know what you’re doing it would be difficult for you to even get sharp images with a tripod.

Manual focusing override is present. All you need to do is grab the focusing ring in front and turn it to use manual focusing. Saves that extra second to flick the M/A switch.

The Bad

The absence of Vibration Reduction (VR) is hard to understand. The older 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D did not have it and neither does the new 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED. One would really love VR on one of these lenses, though the new G lens is much better in terms of performance compared to the older D lens. If you use a tripod, it will not affect you much. For your hand-held portrait shots on a DX format DSLR you would wish the lens had VR.

Auto-focusing speed is a little slower than what would have been ideal.

Not for DX users who have an 18-55mm kit lens. This one is just as good, coming at a fraction of the cost and weight. The AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED will become a 27-52mm on a DX camera, wasting your money.

Similar Products

The AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR priced at just over $1200 is an alternative that you could look into for FX cameras. At that price you would not be disappointed with the quality that the lens will bring. For DX users, realistically, your 18-55mm kits lens is good enough. At less than $200 you would also get Vibration Reduction bundled with it.

Should I buy it?

Yes if you’re looking for a wide angle that’s cheaper than the AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR for your FX camera.

The Elusive and Iconic Image is Never Out of Reach

The new AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR super-telephoto lens provides professional photographers the opportunity to get close to a subject with the longest fixed focal length lens in the NIKKOR family. Designed for the needs of sports, wildlife and news photographers, the 800mm features a maximum aperture of f/5.6 and gives FX-format photographers the chance to capture intense detail and textures that fill the frame from a distance. Included with the new lens is the matched AF-S Teleconverter TC800-1.25E ED which has been developed exclusively for the 800mm f/5.6 lens. This is the first Nikon teleconverter to employ an ED glass element, and extends the maximum focal length 1.25x to 1000mm (1500mm when used with a DX-format camera) and maximum aperture to f/7.1 while maintaining full AF performance on D4, D800 series and D600 FX-format D-SLR cameras.

Originally trialed and tested under the demanding conditions of the 2012 summer games, the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR maintains the handling, optical performance, vivid color reproduction and exceptional clarity that professional photographers rely on. This is the first Nikon lens constructed with two fluorite glass elements, combined with two ED glass elements and a Nano Crystal Coat, to help ensure outstanding performance with minimal chromatic aberration and flaring, all within a durable lens body. The addition of fluorite elements allows for consistently excellent optical characteristics while keeping the lens balanced and lightweight. The lens is comprised of 20 elements in 13 groups, and is one of few Nikon lenses to utilize an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism that enables seamless mechanical control and enhanced stability in auto exposure control during continuous shooting. Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization is also implemented, with the equivalent of approximately four stops faster1 shutter speed correction.
