Nikon 1 S1

The S1 launched recently along with yet another MILC from Nikon, the J3. It is the smallest MILC that has been launched by Nikon yet and is aimed directly at users looking to migrate from a point and shoot to a DSLR like camera minus the complexity. This camera is best in the hands of those who are looking for a lightweight yet flexible system with a slightly larger sensor than what a point and shoot offers. To be retailed starting in February 2013 at $500 this is the new entry level Nikon 1 series camera so to say. It has a 13.2mm x 8.8mm CMOS sensor with an effective megapixel of 10.1.

The S1 has a Hybrid auto-focusing system with both phase detection and contrast-detection and boasts 73 AF points. It can shoot at 60 fps for a maximum of 15 frames in one burst when AF is locked. With continuous AF it can shoot at 15 fps. The CMOS sensor of the S1 is slightly more sensitive in low light compared to the J3 and has a range of 100-6400.

The S1 is compatible with most of the popular storage cards including SD, SDHC and SDXC. The external dimensions of the camera are 4.0 x 2.4 x 1.2 and it weighs only 197 grams. The S1 will be shipped together with the 11-27.5mm lens.
