Features
The AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D retailing at only $135 is a very cheap FX format f/1.8 50mm prime lens from the Nikkor stable. For ameteurs looking for a 50mm lens this is a good one to start off as this is a traditional AF lens and is thus compatible with most Nikon DSLRs ever made including those with AF. In spite of the fact that the lens is dirt cheap, the performance of the lens in all apertures has been tested to be quite satisfactory. Auto focusing is also very quick in most cameras. The biggest USP of the lens is its wide aperture of f/1.8 which gathers a lot of light.
The lens has Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating technology which ensures reduced lens flares and ghosting. The AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D is a fast lens and which will give excellent results in most lighting conditions and is a great lens to have when you’re shooting in low light conditions. The lens has a close focusing distance of 1.5’ (or 0.45 meters).
It has a maximum angle of view on a FX format DSLR at 46° and that of 31°30′ on a DX format camera. It has a total of 6 lens elements arranged in 5 groups. There are 7 straight diaphragm blades (not rounded). The lens uses a 52mm filter thread specification.
The dimensions of the lens is 2.5×1.5” (diameter x length) and the weight is a paltry 155 grams. Depending upon where your location is the lens ships with a 52mm front lens cap and rear cap. AF not supported by D40 and D60, D3100, D3000, D5000,D5100 cameras. Available at Amazon | Adorama | B&H
