The AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED offers a DX user a slightly wider focal length compared to the 18-55mm. Again a constant f/2.8 aperture is suitable for the purpose of most low light photography needs that a user is presented with. At the narrow end the lens can stop down to f/22.
Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor technology ensures quiet auto-focusing. Nikon has also provided its M/A technology in this lens which makes it easier to switch from auto focusing to manual focusing just by turning the focusing ring. This makes it also a lot faster to adjust for precise focusing. Additionally Internal Focusing ensures that the lens barrel never extends during focusing.
The presence of Aspherical Elements and Extra Low Dispersion elements means the lens has a suppressed effect from ghosts and flares. Nikon has additionally provided it’s Super Integrated Coating (SIC).
