The AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR has a 10.7x zoom range which is handy for a trade-off of 800 grams comparative weight. This Nikon F mount wide angle tele zoom lens has a minimum f/stop of 3.5 when fully zoomed out. Compatible with both FX and DX format Nikon DSLRs this lens has a 9 blade rounded diaphragm.

Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating (SIC) ensures that the lens exhibits sharper image contrast and more details in the colors. Three aspherical elements reduces spherical aberrations and Nikon’s VR II image stabilization system ensures that the lens offers up to four stops of slower shutter speeds. This significantly improves the hand-held capabilities of the lens. Additionally Nikon has provided two ED lens elements to reduce color fringing.

SWM technology eliminates the sound when the lens is focusing which is imperative when shooting at a close distance from the subject or when shooting wildlife. Additionally the presence of IF technology means the lens length never extends when focusing. Additionally the presence of A/M means it is easy to correct the focusing by manual overriding at any time.

The lens has 19 elements arranged in 14 groups. The minimum focusing distance is 1.6’ or 0.5 meter throughout the entire focal length range.
