Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) is a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation centre located in Savar Bangladesh. Founded by British physiotherapist Valerie Taylor in 1979. I have visited CRP as a volunteer of our surgical team. We operated on number of cases suffering from bed sore. These photographs provide a glimpse of regular lifestyle in CRP. Valerie is a remarkable lady. Her hospitality and generosity is something the keeps CRP running.
This person at the front desk is a freedom fighter. He look very normal isn’t it !
However as you change the angle – you will notice something different. He works at the desk lying on his bed.
As patients are paralyzed, they need to change position every two hours. Otherwise there will be bed sore at various bony points where body touches the bed.
Patients with cervical spinal injury are given tong traction. Lying upside down, they look at their surroundings through a mirror.
Strong mental strength as well as care by the family members and health care staffs help their life going.
During lunch hour patients who are on wheel chair or bed move to the dinning area.
Its Friday, and this patient is going for congregational prayer at noon.
For amusement of the patients there is TV, playground etc.
However, this is a place no one wants to stay long. They are always looking forward to go back home to their love ones.
