Along with the 1.4x EX DG Teleconverter Sigma had also launched the 2x EX DG tele converter which provides compatible Sigma DG lenses with a focal length multiplication of 2x. This tele converter works best with compatible lenses only and Sigma has released a list of lenses that it would work with.
Sigma’s multi-layer coating ensures that the lens has a much suppressed effect from lens flares and ghosts. The use of the teleconverter does not affect the performance of the lenses or their auto-focusing capabilities. In fact the only thing that happens is a slight addition of bulk between the lens and the camera and a loss of one stop of wide aperture. Often when using a medium telephoto lens of say 200 or even 300mm users may be presented with an opportunity where the lens’ focal length range may be ineffective. Having the Sigma 2x EX DG tele-converter at hand means an immediate doubling of the focal length and a great shot. The best thing is that the combination of a teleconverter and a medium telephoto lens is often a lot cheaper than a single super-telephoto lens of say 400 or 500mm.
Sigma recommends that you first attach the lens on to the teleconverter and then mount the teleconverter/lens together on to the DSLR body. Attaching the teleconverter first to the DSLR mount may result it to malfunction.
