Metabones ‘Speed Booster’ – A lens Adapter To Make Your Lens Wider, Faster & Sharper!
Metabones and Caldwell Photographic introduce Speed Booster
Petersburg, VA, USA, January 14, 2013 – Metabones® and Caldwell Photographic jointly announce a revolutionary accessory called Speed Booster™, which mounts between a mirrorless camera and a SLR lens. It increases maximum aperture by 1 stop (hence its name), increases MTF and has a focal length multiplier of 0.71x. For example, the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II lens becomes a 59mm f/0.9 lens on a Sony NEX camera, with increased sharpness. The faster F-stop allows for shallow depth-of-field and a lower ISO setting for decreased noise.
Speed Booster is also particularly pertinent to ultra-wide-angle SLR lenses. The combined focal length multiplier of Speed Booster and an APS-C mirrorless camera is approximately 1.09x, making the combination almost “full-frame”. Full-frame ultra-wide-angle SLR lenses largely retain their angle-of-view on an APS-C mirrorless camera when Speed Booster is used.
The optics of Speed Booster is designed by Brian Caldwell, PhD, a veteran of highly-corrected lens designs such as the Coastal Optics 60mm f/4 UV-VIS-IR APO Macro lens with exemplary MTF performance (focusing done with visible light requires no correction whatsoever for the full spectrum from UV to IR).
Speed Booster serves double-duty as a lens mount adapter, from Canon EF lens (but not EF-S) to Sony NEX, with auto-aperture, image stablization, EXIF and (slow) autofocus support for late-model (post-2006) Canon-brand lenses. It will be available in January 2013 from Metabones’ web site and its worldwide dealer network for US$599 plus shipping and applicable taxes and duties.
Other mount combinations will follow shortly afterwards. Leica R, ALPA, Contarex, Contax C/Y and Nikon F (with aperture control for G lenses) will be supported, as will Micro 4/3 and Fuji X-mount cameras. Support for other mounts will be added in the future.
To learn more details about this revolutionary technology, read the Speed Booster White Paper on Metabones’ web site.

Overview
The Fuji X100S is the successor to the extremely popular Fuji X100 an APS-C sensor based prosumer compact. The Fuji X100S is designed for serious photographers and those who either already have a DSLR, and want a smaller lighter body to lug around or for people who seriously love photography but hate the ideal of a bulky DSLR.
Official Video
The good
Optical viewfinder has a coverage of 90%. Switching to Electronic viewfinder you get a coverage of 100%. The location of the viewfinder switching button is right in front of the camera on the right of the lens barrel. Makes it a handy way to switch between the two viewfinder modes.
X100S has a very close focusing distance 0.21 meters which has developed considerably (by 50%) from the XP100 which was 0.40 meters. In the normal mode, which saves you from switching to macro, you can use your camera as it is and shoot great close up photographs.
The better picture quality in ambient light.
The camera has a fixed lens that is locked in position, no popping in or out, which saves further time.
The built in flash compensates for low light conditions without yelling as normal flashes do. Even when shot directly at the sun to illuminate faces the flash has a subtle way of retaining skin tones without unduly overexposing the shot. In one word the flash mixes well with the ambient light making it ideal for use in any lighting conditions. The flash does not have to pop-up, saving some extra seconds when you need it to fire.
Compared to the older X100 the new X100S has a slightly modified Focusing mode button. The AF-C mode has been pushed down and the AF-S has come up. Great for most, not great for rest.
The Bad
The camera is powered by the Li-ion battery NP-95 pack and gives only 330 shots per charge. If you’re an avid street photographer or love taking landscape photographs you will be presented with a situation where you will run out of charge more often than not. We suggest you carry an extra set of fully charged batteries.
Similar Products
The camera that the X100S is highly inspired from is the Leica M9. In fact at first looks you may be deceived until you notice the difference in the positioning of the buttons, the mode dial, the viewfinder, the focus-assist lamp etc. But where the M9 is a full frame advanced compact this sports only a 16 megapixels sensor. Additionally the M9 is built like a tank and in the own words of the company ‘Built for a life time”. Comparatively the X100S is slightly less well built. At the end of the day you won’t mind it unless you feel like driving a set of nails on a plank. Another camera you would wan to see is the Nikon Coolpix – A which has a similar APS-C 16 megapixels sensor.
Should I buy it?
The X100S is definitely a great buy for anybody who loves his photography and prefers a viewfinder instead of a LCD screen to compose. The camera is a lightweight alternative to carrying a DSLR, offering users all the manual controls that one may need in order to indulge in artistic photography, giving a close macro shooting range in normal mode and a great fast fixed lens of f/2. It is the ideal camera for carrying on a trip, taking to a party and for taking photos in the backyard. It is very small at 126.5 x 74.4 x 53.9 mm and weighs 445 grams with memory card and batteries making it easy to transport. The two things that will work against it are the price which is around $1300 and thus is the same as a prosumer DSLR with kit lens and the lack of a zoom feature which most consumers would have loved. If you already own a DSLR this could be a stand-by that you take with you at events where you don’t want to lug your heavy DSLR. Mind it at 450 grams this is not your average compact camera. Also if you’re a street photographer this could be your camera. Available at Adorama | B&H

The Hybrid viewfinder
How about two viewfinders in one? That’s what the hybrid viewfinder of X100S does. In a flick of a switch the viewfinder changes from optical to electronic and a coverage of 90% to 100%. The 0.48” LCD screen of the EVF has a resolution of 2,360,000 dots / inch and reproduces the image coming through the lens in vivid detail. Plus an array of customizable shooting information makes your photographing experience that much better.
The closest focusing distance of the camera in normal mode is 0.21 meters which is decent enough for some close-up shots and get interesting bokeh, without ever having to switch to macro mode. However if you do decide to shift to macro mode you can get a close focusing distance of 10 cm.
Sensor performance comparable to full-frame output
The X100S features FUJIFILM’s newly-developed 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor with a unique, highly randomised, colour filter arrangement. The benefit of the new array is the elimination of the need for an optical low-pass filter; these are used in conventional sensors to reduce false colour and moiré effects but they also reduce image resolution. The removal of the optical low-pass filter allows the X-Trans CMOS II sensor to maximise the light it receives directly, enabling users to capture much finer detail and optimise resolution levels.
The X100S uses a Lens Modulation Optimiser to reduce optical effects such as lens diffraction, which occurs when light passes through a lens. Even when stopped down to f/16, the X100S retains sharpness and texture in the smallest details, demonstrating the extent of the sensor and lens combination’s capabilities, perfectly.
The excellent sensitivity of the X-Trans CMOS II sensor is coupled with the new EXR Processor II’s advanced signal processing capacity, which can reduce noise by more than 30% (*2) compared to its predecessor. Even when shooting in low-light, at a high ISO setting, the FUJIFILM X100S will produce crisp images with minimal grain.
The World’s fastest Auto Focus and High-speed EXR Processing
With built-in Phase Detection, the X100S offers the world’s fastest AF speed of just 0.08 seconds(*1). The Intelligent Hybrid AF can switch to Contrast AF, dependent on the demands of the subject or scene, to ensure that the camera always auto-focuses quickly and with precision.
The EXR Processor II delivers processing speeds twice that of FUJIFILM’s previous generation processor (*6). The fast responses result in an impressive start-up time of approx. 0.5 seconds (*4), and a shooting interval of 0.5 seconds. In addition the X100S delivers a burst shooting rate of up to6 frames per second (max. 29 frames) at the full resolution of 16.3 megapixels and the shutter time lag is a mere 0.01 seconds.
Enhanced manual focus performance with the world’s first (*5) ‘Digital Split Image’ display
Making use of the built-in phase detection pixels for AF action, the X100S is the world’s first (*5) camera to offer a “Digital Split Image” feature, which displays dual images on the left and right to be lined up for manual focusing. This enables accurate focusing especially when working with an open aperture or macro shooting.
In addition, the X100S offers a handy Focus Peak Highlight function, which highlights high contrast areas of your subject. It provides the photographer with a guide, even in situations where it is difficult to calculate focusing accuracy, allowing users to enjoy manual focusing comfortably, however challenging the conditions.
Premium Hybrid Viewfinder for easy image composition
Offering users freedom when composing photos and adaptability for a range of shooting conditions, the X100S’s Hybrid Viewfinder combines both an Optical and an Electronic Viewfinder.
The electronic viewfinder uses a 100% coverage, extra high resolution, 2,360K-dot High Definition LCD panel. It shows depth-of-field during macro shooting, as well as white balance settings, allowing users to accurately compose their shot while continuously looking through the viewfinder.
The premium quality optical viewfinder offers an easy-to-see magnification of 0.5 at a 23mm focal length and a horizontal apparent field of view of 26 degrees. The all-glass construction uses high-refractive index glass to minimise chromatic aberrations and distortion.
While in the optical viewfinder mode, users can make adjustments to shutter speed, aperture, ISO and other settings without having to take their eye off the viewfinder. The shooting frame (Bright Frame) and text brightness automatically adjust according to the ambient light available, to ensure that the information on the display is easy to see at all times.
The system features an OVF Power Save mode, which activates the power-saving function in the optical viewfinder mode to double the maximum number of images per full charge from 300 (*7) in normal operation.
With FUJINON’s proprietary coating, the viewfinder cleverly resists fingerprints and can easily be wiped clean, so that users can enjoy the optical viewfinder’s clear display without compromise.
FUJINON 23mm f/2 lens offering premium image quality in a compact body
Specifically designed for this model, the FUJINON 23mm f/2 Single Focal Length Lens has a fixed angle of incidence of light into the lens, which facilitates optimum optical design. Taking full advantage of this, the X100S demonstrates advanced levels of image clarity, not only in the centre of the image, but also through to the edges of the photo. The versatile focal length of 35mm (*8) delivers an angle of view ideal for a diverse range of subjects and scenes.
The lens consists of 8 elements in 6 groups, and includes a high-performance double-sided aspherical element and highly-refractive converging glass elements, which deliver a high level of detailed performance with minimal aberration, excellent sharpness and beautiful colour reproduction. Moreover, FUJINON’s proprietary HT-EBC coating is applied to effectively control image flares and ghosting.
Other benefits of this lens are the beautiful, soft, round-shaped Bokeh that is produced from the 9 blade lens diaphragm. In addition the lens allows you to get as close as 10cm from your subject in macro mode for stunning close-up shots. And its built-in 3-stop ND filter enables blurring of the background in portraits, or applies a gorgeous creamy look to flowing water even in a bright setting.
Elegant design and sophisticated functionality
The front of the X100S proudly bares the letter “S” as confirmation of its extensive evolution from the FUJIFILM X100. Down to the tiniest detail, the premium build and feel of the X100 is continued in the X100S. FUJIFILM’s top quality Japanese engineering is evident from the high precision components used and the perfectly optimised body.
The X100S’s top and base parts are made of magnesium alloy to achieve a lightweight, resilient, yet delicate design. A specially-formulated coating is applied to give its surface a steel look for an added premium feel. All the dials and rings have been milled from solid metal, with attention paid to the finer details such as finger grips and enhanced operability. The exterior is finished with synthetic leather, which is durable and resilient to the environment yet reproduces the texture of real leather, while still offering the practical benefits of additional grip and comfort.
The layout of the dials and rings allow users to operate the aperture ring on the lens with their left hand, and the shutter speed dial and exposure compensation dial on the top panel with their right hand, meaning all the settings can be adjusted comfortably without having to take your eye off the viewfinder. And to make you feel even more at home, you can even customise your shutter sound by choosing between the four different sounds available: Lens Shutter, Focal Plane Shutter, Mirror Up and Silent Shutter.
The menu system has been also updated to incorporate a Q “Quick” button which allows you to quickly call up frequently-used menu items such as ISO setting and Film Simulation modes. In addition, the Fn (Function) button allows users to assign functions frequently used while shooting, for convenient use at the touch of a button.
Artistic photography
The X100S features FUJIFILM’s proprietary ‘Film Simulation Modes’. Users can choose from ten simulation options which replicate the results achieved by FUJIFILM colour reversal films (Velvia / PROVIA / ASTIA), professional colour negative films (PRO Neg. Std / PRO Neg. Hi), monochrome filters (MONOCHROME, Ye filter, R filter and G filter) and SEPIA.
Also available on the X100S is the Advanced Filter function; users can choose from 8 different artistic effects which can be previewed on the LCD screen:
Pop Colour – great for boosting contrast and colour saturation
Toy Camera – create shaded borders as if you were taking a photo on a toy camera
Miniature – adds top and bottom blur for a diorama or miniature effect
Dynamic Tone – create a fantasy effect by dynamically-modulated tonal reproduction
Partial Colour – highlights one colour and leaves the rest of the image in black and white (choose from red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple)
High Key – enhances brightness and reduces contrast to lighten tonal reproduction
Low Key – create uniformly dark tones with few areas of emphasised highlights.
Soft Focus – blurs the focus of the image edges to create a softer effect
In addition a Multiple Exposure function enables users to combine two separate images together for special creative effects. And for greater artistic freedom, the aspect ratio can be selected from 3:2, 16:9, and 1:1 (square) to accommodate a wide range of photographic styles.
Full HD Video Shooting
The X100S can shoot at 60fps during Full HD video recording (1920 x 1080) for very smooth video capture. Plus shooting at the high bit-rate of 36Mbps will result in reduced noise and enhanced image quality that reveals every detail, from individual leaves in the trees, to subtle changes in facial expression. During video recording, users have access to many of the additional modes available in still image capture. Film Simulation modes can be used, White Balance settings can be adjusted, you can even make the most of the fast lens to produce beautiful bokeh and also operate the Intelligent Hybrid AF for high-speed and high-precision focusing.

Key features
- A newly designed 16.3 megapixels APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor
- A hybrid optical / electronic viewfinder using dual magnification technology
- The new X mount featuring a short flange distance
- Stereo sound recording with built-in mic
Overview
The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 is widely considered to be a design that has been inspired by the Leica M9 with a dose of refinement done by Fuji. Many of its performances have been inspired by this legendary mirrorless camera and many of them taken to a completely new level by the ingenuity of the engineers at Fujifilm.
Features explained
The 16 megapixels X-Trans APS-C CMOS sensor
The new X-Trans APS-C CMOS sensor churns out an effective 16.3 megapixels. While the megapixels count is something that is not too exciting, the smart aspect about this sensor is the revamped proprietary color filter array. This is not the same as the standard Bayer array, just like any other of Fuji’s cameras and comes with the proprietary filter system developed by them. While the X-Trans CMOS continues to use the standard square pattern filter array as any other Fuji camera, it has been redesigned completely to ensure that it is less affected by color moiré. Color moiré is the unwanted pattern of colors (false colors) which are caused by patterns of close interweaved colors, the same type that we can see in a fabric. Most digital cameras with built in lenses and those which use separate lenses (interchangeable lens cameras) use an optical low pass filter to counter this. This while reducing the effects of false color, impacts the sharpness of the image. The new sensor design in the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 ensures that it can bypass this problem while eliminating the need for an optical low pass filter. In theory the new filter array and the removal of the OLPF means the camera should be able to capture more detail if we are to compare another camera with the same number of pixels.
The X mount
Fuji’s new X-Pro 1 camera comes with a new ‘X’ mount that has a very short distance from the flange to the sensor. This distance, also known as the ‘Flange Distance’ is only 17.7mm in the new camera.
The hybrid viewfinder & the LCD screen
The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 inherits many of the features that the X100 came with including the optical / electronic hybrid viewfinder which gives dual magnification. The term Reverse Galilean with electronic graticules sounds like abracadabra for most amateurs (and even professional) photographers but this is what is behind this revolutionary hybrid VF technology. The viewfinder offers live histogram and a virtual horizon to level your shots (such as architecture and landscape) perfectly. Apart from that a host of other shooting information is also provided. Dual magnification means one can get the same optical field of view for an 18mm lens and then a 35mm lens when either of the two is mounted. Additionally the electronic viewfinder has a 1,440,000 dots resolution with approx 100% coverage. The 3” LCD monitor has a resolution of 1,230,000 dots and has 100% frame coverage.
Continuous shooting speed
The X-Pro 1 has two continuous shooting speeds. At continuous low it shoots at 3 fps and at continuous high it shoots at 6 fps.
Videos & stills
The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 shoots large JPEGs of resolution 4896 x 3264 pixels at 3:2 ratio. At 16:9 ratio it shoots at 4896 x 2760 pixels resolution. Additionally the X-Pro 1 also shoots full HD videos at 24 fps and 720p HD at 24 fps. Videos are recorded in MOV formats encoded by H.264 with stereo sound recorded from the built-in stereo mic.
Auto-focusing
The X-Pro 1 has an auto-focusing feature that locks on focus rather slowly. This may just be one issue which makes the X-Pro 1 a bit frustrating for some one who also wields a professional DSLR. The new X-Trans CMOS sensor, although ensuring that the new X-Pro 1 is much faster than the older X100 that it replaces and even faster than the Leica M9 that it has been compared so often, is not blazingly fast as would imagine. However, continuous auto-focusing in movie mode & stills is a bit problematic. The X-Pro 1 does not have what it takes to successfully stay locked on when the subject is moving about.
Storage
The X-Pro 1 uses a single memory card slot which supports SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
ISO Range
The ISO range of the X-Pro 1 is 200-6400. On an expanded mode it is 100-25,600. The X-Pro 1 has a noticeably better noise correction compared to some of its competitors in the market; specially the Leica M9. At higher ISO the shots captured by the X-Pro 1 are more usable compared to those captured by the Leica M9.
What are missing / wish list
The X-Pro 1 is a neat little camera, one that combines the best of two worlds. It has sharp image quality, extremely good low light performance and fast AF for stills. However we cannot but help wonder why Fujifilm did not think it was justified to have a pop-up flash for it. Even the older X100 has one and it is very good.
Similar products
The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 has been frequently compared with the Leica M9 which has inspired many of its features starting with its rangefinder-style looks (except that it is not a range-finder but a MILC). However compared to the M9 the X-Pro 1 is much faster, has better low-light performance, locks focus faster and costs a good deal less. Fujifilm’s own X-E1 is another of the MILCs that one can look into. However while one can get a better pricing (nearly $700 less) one has to make do without the optical viewfinder.
Should I buy it?
The X-Pro 1 is indiscreetly addressed to people who are not amateurs and more likely to already own a DSLR. This wonderful camera is aimed at people who want more control over their photography but not necessarily want to be consumed by the bulk of a DSLR. It combines the advantages of a compact light weight camera and the controls of a pro DSLR minus the weight. If you’re serious about your photography and want to have more control over what you’re shooting, the X-Pro 1 is indeed a great camera to invest in. The new X mount was launched with three lenses, the Fujinon XF 18mm f/2, the Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 and the Fujinon XF 60mm f/2.4 macro lens. Among these the 35mm f/1.4 is definitely a great buy with the X-Pro 1.

DxO Optics Pro v8.1.2 Update
DxO Optics Pro v8.1.2 supports three new cameras and surpasses the milestone of 10,000 available DxO Optics Modules
Supports the Canon EOS 6D, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX1, and the Nikon 1 V2
January 16, 2013 – DxO Labs announces the immediate availability of DxO Optics Pro v8.1.2 for Mac and Windows, the new version of its image processing software of reference for all demanding photographers. This update allows DxO Optics Pro 8 to support the Canon EOS 6D and the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX1 full-format cameras (Elite Edition only), as well as the Nikon 1 V2.
Based on a unique approach of prior calibration in the laboratories of DxO Labs, DxO Optics Pro 8 includes numerous powerful and automatic RAW and JPEG image-processing tools. DxO Optics Pro 8 offers the most advanced optical corrections on the market, the best tool for automatically adjusting contrast and light, and precise color management. Its unrivaled performance and its intuitive interface provide a smooth and fast workflow.
10,000 DxO Optics Modules available for exceptional optical corrections
DxO Optics Pro v8.1.2 benefits from the continuous addition of DxO Optics Modules. More than a hundred new camera/lens combinations have been added to the library, supporting additional Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Sony, Tamron and Tokina lenses for Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras.
DxO Optics Pro achieved the goal it set in early 2012 to have 10,000 DxO Optics Modules available by the end of 2012. Developed in the laboratory using an exclusive calibration process, DxO Optics Modules contain tens of thousands of data points about the intrinsic characteristics and flaws of each camera and lens. This database, unique in the entire world, allows DxO Optics Pro to automatically correct all the optical flaws in RAW and JPEG images – distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations, and lens softness – with an unrivaled level of quality. Discover our laboratory!
The opening of a new lab in Seattle in fall 2012 has strengthened DxO Labs capacity in terms of calibrations and measurements. Now with six laboratories located in Europe and the United States, DxO Labs is looking to double its production rate of DxO Optics Modules in 2013.
This upgrade is free for all owners of DxO Optics Pro 8, as well as for photographers who purchased a DxO Optics Pro 7 license on or after September 1, 2012. Other users can take advantage of a special discount on this upgrade through January 31, 2013 by going directly through their customer account.

Canon U.S.A. To Promote Awareness About Use Of Counterfeit Accessories
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., January 15, 2013 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, has rolled out a consumer-safety initiative that will promote awareness of a consumer electronics industry-wide issue: the risks of using counterfeit accessories for digital cameras and camcorders, especially batteries and chargers. Counterfeit products are fake replicas of the real products, designed to take advantage of the superior value of the real product. These fake accessories are produced in a manner that is increasingly more difficult for average consumers to identify. Purchase of these products can lead to potentially dangerous results. Unlike genuine Canon products, counterfeit accessories may not meet government and industry safety standards and may overheat, smoke, melt, ignite and may cause bodily injury and property damage.
In support of this initiative, a digital campaign, with the tagline, “Play it safe. Power your Canon with Canon Power” was launched on January 8, advising consumers to avoid counterfeits by purchasing products through established retail channels. In addition, the Canon USA Website has been enlisted to educate consumers on the Canon batteries and chargers most frequently counterfeited and to provide helpful tips to spot them.
“Canon takes safety seriously and, as good corporate citizens, we want to inform and educate so that consumers are aware of the risks counterfeit products pose,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. “We will be rolling out an initiative over the next few months, encouraging consumers to help play it safe with genuine Canon power when making an investment in a camera or camcorder and its accessories, so that they may continue to enjoy the quality experience they expect from us.”

Giottos Announced Silk Road YTL Series Tripods with Patened Y-Tubing
Giotto’s launches patented brand new design for its core tripod range
Just when you think you’ve seen it all in the world of tripods – Giotto’s has launched a brand new range of tripods featuring a totally unique, patented design – enabling a 30% space saving while maintaining full strength, stability and weight capacity.
The NEW Giotto’s Silk Road YTL Series replaces the entire range of Giotto’s MTL tripods and features a new Y-shaped centre column, meaning a super slim 30% space saving when the tripod is packed down.
This uniquely shaped centre column brings a totally new dimension to tripod design – allowing legs to be stowed in a much more compact way, without the ‘bulk’ of tripods using traditional design.
Giotto’s is continually challenging the dimensions of photographic tripods – following on from the huge success of its award winning Vitruvian range – which adopted a space saving inverted design when the tripod is folded down.
The new Silk Road range is named after the historical network of interlinking trade routes covering East, South & Western Asia, parts of North & east Africa and Europe. New technologies were often traded along this route too – hence the inspiration for the Giotto’s Silk Road series.
The new Y-Tube column allows a 30% space saving vs the MTL range – while maintaining full strength, stability and weight capacity. The Silk Road Series includes a range of tripods, which support up to 5kg, 8kg and 10kg of camera equipment.
The unique Y-shaped column allows tripod legs to be stowed in a much more compact configuration.
Within the range there are 12 models with options including a 2 way column and a super versatile 3 way centre column, ideal for very low level shooting. The 3D column tripods have an included low-angle adaptor.
The range also includes models with 3-section and 4-section tripod legs – for additional height and compact stowage. The adjustable tripod legs have 3 ‘footprint’ settings – full height, mid height where the legs are slightly wider and an ultra wide setting for low level photography.
The new range also features graduated leg markings and new, patented Quick Easy Leg (QEL) Lock adjustments for fast, accurate adjustment without taking your eye off the subject.
On the models with 2 way centre column, there’s also a bubble spirit level built in and all models feature a swappable tripod thread – so you can easily change between 3/8” and 1/4” – meaning the Giotto’s Silk Road YTL range is compatible with any Giotto’s head and models from other manufacturers too.
For the ultimate grip in wet or uneven conditions, spiked feet are now available as an optional extra. The range is available in both aluminium and carbon fibre made from the finest quality components. Carbon fibre models are manufactured from the highest quality 8x multi layer carbon fibre to increase strength and reduce weight.
Key Features:
- Brand new patented ‘Y-Tube’ centre column – enabling a 30% space saving
- 12 models including finest quality aluminium and carbon fibre
- 3 or 4 section tripod legs
- Brand new Quick Easy Leg Lock (QEL) and graduated leg markings
- Fully compatible tripod thread – works with any Giotto’s head or other standard thread tripod heads
- Range of height settings – and optional extras including short centre column and spiked tripod feet
Guide retail pricing: from £100 for aluminium models and £220 for carbon fibre models. The Giotto’s Silk Road Series will launch at the SWPP Trade Show (11th – 13th January 2013) and ‘first look’ of the entire range will be on show at Focus on Imaging (3rd – 6th March 2013)
Product will be available in store & online from mid-January.
